ROSTER MOVES: RHP Chad Thompson has been placed on the Timber Rattlers disabled list retroactive to July 19. RHP Eric Semmelhack has been transferred from Helena to the Rattlers. Semmelhack, a Wisconsin native, was selected by the Brewers in the 12th round of the 2012 draft out of the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. Semmelhack had been 1-3 with a 4.02 ERA in six starts for the Helena Brewers.

McCalvy reports Yosmer Leal, 16 year old pitcher from Venezuela, signed for $370K which is a biggish number. Contingent on physical exam and age investigation.

Soon-to-be 22-year-old Dominican Summer League RHP Eduard Reyes (career stats, 3rd year in the system) gets a needed bump stateside to Maryvale and the Arizona Brewers Rookie League club. Reyes has allowed 13 unearned runs this year (of the 20 overall), so his numbers, while gaudy, show that he needs to limit the damage when necessary.

Also, and this is a bit of a surprise, but 2011 2nd round RHP Jorge Lopez (stats) makes the opposite trip, and is heading to the DSL. The 19-year-old, drafted out of a Puerto Rico high school, had pitched well as of late after a few rough appearances. To be honest, I don't remember reading about Lopez' proficiency in English in the past, perhaps this is a way to transition him back to the language formation program the Brewers have within the Brewers' Dominican Academy (speculation on my part).

interesting to hear Lopez needs to get a passport. Wonder if this was in the works for some time, but contingent on that formality

Local pitcher gets call up to majors

By Marco Vigliotti, High River Times (Alberta, Canada) Assistant Editor

Former Okotoks Dawgs RHP Jim Henderson is finally getting the chance to play in the majors after spending eight years in the minor league ranks and transforming into one of the Milwaukee Brewers’ top pitching prospects.

Henderson, 29, was called up from the Nashville Sounds (AAA) Wednesday night. He is expected to be in the lineup for the Brewers when they play host to the NL leading Washington Nationals on Thursday night.

Henderson phoned Okotoks Dawgs coach Brandon Newell to tell him about the major league call up late Wednesday night.

The team immediately took to Twitter to announce the news.

The Calgary native is in the midst of a breakout year with the Sounds, posting a 1.67 ERA and 15 saves in 35 appearances. Earlier in the month, Henderson was selected to the Pacific Coast League (PCL) All-Star team.

The 6’5 relief pitcher helped Canada win baseball gold at the 2003 Pan-Am Games in the Dominican Republic. He played most of his youth baseball in the Okotoks Dawgs system.

Henderson was selected in the 26th round by the now relocated Montreal Expos in the 2003 MLB amateur draft. He has played in the minors since 2003, mostly in the triple-A leagues.

Coincidentally, Henderson is expected to make his MLB debut against the franchise he was originally drafted by. The Montreal Expos relocated to Washington and became the Nationals in 2005.

Henderson’s name has been bandied about in Milwaukee baseball circles all season long as a possible solution for the team’s struggling bullpen. Their bullpen boasts a dreadfully .276 batting average against, and have given up 145 walks, the third most in the NL.

The bullpen woes have required some intensive attention from the coaching staff, including a closed door meeting between the pitching staff and Brewers manager Ron Roenicke, early Wednesday morning.

The Brewers currently sit nine games under .500 and have lost seven of their past ten games.

The other player response tweets to Mitch make me think that Stetter & Dillard in the same clubhouse would be must-see TV.

Pretty soon, the entire Nashville roster will be former Brewers. I count 16, including the DL.

Via the Manatees:

ROSTER MOVES: RHP Brooks Hall & OF Franklin Romero Jr. placed on DL. RHP Andy Moye & C Parker Berberet activated from DL.

Hall was lifted after a shaky three innings on Wednesday. Hopefully a minor issue, good to see Moye back so quickly -- always a breath-holder with any sidelined pitcher.

C Tyler Roberts to the DL (retroactive to 7/24). IF Carlos George activated from DL.

The retroactive note is moot on Roberts as we learned of his wrist ligament tear this week.

From the Sounds:

BIANCHI REJOINS SOUNDS; BULLER TO D.L.: Shortstop Jeff Bianchi, who was optioned back to Nashville yesterday, rejoins the Sounds today after going 0-for-12 in seven games for Milwaukee in his first Major League experience. To make room for Bianchi on the Nashville roster, catcher Dayton Buller was placed on the disabled list.

Here's the Sounds' roster.

And like you, I have no idea who the Nashville backup catcher is Friday night. Stay healthy, Jason Jaramillo.

The Brewers are going to have to do some scrambling here for Saturday. The Stars only have two active catchers (Anderson De La Rosa / Adam Weisenburger).

Well if this is true (not saying it isn't), very well earned. I totally agree.

Happily, with Hiram Burgos Nashville-bound, the Thunder is again rolling Downhill--RHP Jimmy Nelson was activated off the DL to take Burgos' roster spot. Nelson has been out since 6/30, his third start for the Stars after being promoted from Brevard County.
