it was late at night on 31 march 1970 when bud selig learned that he and his investors had acquired the seattle pilots.

It's crazy to think about that in terms of timing. That was a week before opening day (Opening day for the Brewers was April 7th that year). I can't see that type of last minute deal happening before the season begins in today's sports environment.

The late date of the move is why the team's colors became blue and gold (inherited from the Pilots) rather than the planned red and navy like the Brewers of old. There was no time to order new uniforms. Seamstresses removed all Pilots identification and replaced it with Brewers stuff.

 

The Braves also came to Milwaukee at a late date. Their move was announced on March 13th, and it caused the American Association Brewers to move to Toledo.

That’s the only thing Chicago’s good for: to tell people where Wisconsin is.
