I found game was thinking of. Aug 7th 2012. Vs Cincy. Fiers Perfect game through 6. Lead batter 7th doubles. Scores on B2B flyball outs. Fiers give up 2singles in 8th. Henderson save for 9th.

As I type, back to back jacks to blow 1-hitter and shutout. Brutal.

 

 

Brutal would be losing the game after taking a 4-0 lead into the 9th inning. Shutouts are great but they're a more or less meaningless stat in the greater scheme of things.

Well that was entertaining. Bummer and got a little dicey in the 9th, but still a solid win. I was in total non jinx mode. Had the game on the laptop on mute and wouldn't even mention to my wife what was happening. Was hoping she'd notice.

Didn't Dave Bush have a no hitter into the 8th or 9th and the gave up like 17 runs and we hung on to win like 18-17?

Put aside the disappointment we feel of not seeing history, and we still have a game in which Anderson, who we really need to settle in as a reliable starter at the back end of our rotation, shut down a very potent lineup for 8 and 2/3rds, and we beat the best team in baseball. That's a good day.

 

The no-hitter will come again, someday. I think a cycle is even rarer than a no-no and we've had a handful of scrubs nail that one down in the last 10-15 years.

I eyeballed no-hitters and cycles a while back. While the Brewers have had less than their share of no-hitters, they've had more than their share of cycles.

I come here to personally apologize to Chase Anderson. I had the game on the radio while I drove to our fishing hole with my kids. He had two balls driven to the CF wall in the first inning while I listened. But we got there and turned off the radio.

 

Then on the way home... yep the 8th inning. And he got crushed to CF once again. But Neuhinwhatever couldn't grab this one.

 

But the 9th inning is on someone else. I was cleaning fish.

Indeed. This was the game I was thinking about last night. I will still a Brewers employee then in the stadium command center and wandered up to the field level during the 7th inning. It was June 19th, 2008. Just two weeks before they acquired Sabathia.

 

He was facing his old team, Toronto. He had a perfect game into the 6th inning and then the no-hitter was broken up in the 8th inning with a Lyle Overbay triple. Alex Rios singled him home and then Bush worked around a HBP to finish the 8th with two hits and leading 8-1.

 

Tim Dillard, David Riske, and Salomon Torres combined to screw the pooch in the 9th and give up 6 more runs. Brewers hung on 8-7.
