So what has Thames done since the beginning of May that you would consider valuable?

His OPS for the month of July was 861.

What about May, June and August? Without April, his year would be pathetic and he might be out a job in 2018.

I keep seeing things like this. So what, we should move on from a guy that is capable of putting up video game numbers because he's hasn't done well during certain months? He has his flaws, sure. But it's really his first full season in the pros. We would be very foolish to just give up on him right now. Very foolish.

"This is a very simple game. You throw the ball, you catch the ball, you hit the ball. Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose, sometimes it rains." Think about that for a while.

His OPS for the year is 11th in major league baseball for all first basemen.

Post all star break his OPS 698 right below Chris Davis at .700 and a few spots above Miguel Cabrera .625. I'm assuming Baltimore and Detroit are planning on DFA'ing those two guys over the winter too.

Who is suggesting we just give up on him now?

The point is, his April was sick, absolutely video game material, but since then, outside of a decent July, he has been nothing more than average to below average. Not suggesting we give up on him, cut him, or anything like that, just stating what has happened.

Hopefully, if we have a chance to trade him for something decent, or have the chance to pick up a full time replacement at 1B this off season, we do it, and not think that April will ever happen again. It might, but there is a better chance that it does not...

Of COURSE there's a better chance of something historic NOT happening than happening. Otherwise records would get broken much more regularly!

Cards taking care of business like the Cards do at this time of the year. So annoying. Just fall apart already.

They believe something "magical" and "special" is happening right now. We forget how annoying they are.

Speak for yourself, haha. I #neverforget

Wow, just digested that Thames has 29 home runs and 55 RBIs. What is the record for fewest RBIs in a 30 home run season? This has to be close, yes?

Which makes his OPS such an overrated joke of an argument. Who cares that his slugging percentage is so high when his 29 home runs are almost all solo shots?

Just turned on the game and read through the thread. I assumed the bolded comment was in jest until I read the follow ups. Looks like Briggs opened a second account.

Yea I'm sure his RBI total would be much better if during his hot streak the two batters in front him weren't the P and Villar hitting .120. But no, it's that he's a choker and not clutch.

Jaso's hair is a mockery to the game. So ugly and un-athletic looking.

Good win. Doesn't look like we'll get much help from the Mets or Reds but a good win regardless, especially considering the pitching matchup was not exactly in our favor.

Come on Dbacks. At least let's have someone help us tonight.

Unfortunately they didn't get any help in the standings tonight, but the alternative of losing a game to everyone would have been disastrous. Back at it tomorrow.
