Detroit to hire Ron Gardenhire as next manager

Gardenhire gets a 3-year deal.

 

I always kind of liked Gardenhire. Hope he does well for the Tigers.

Old Tigers bringing in old manager. That franchise needs a complete rebuild. Not sure if Gardenhire is the right pick for a rebuild.

Not to say that a manager can really hold back a rebuild too much, but agreed that this seems like a bad choice for them. Or it means they're going to try to compete with their old, expensive team but ultimately fall further behind.
