Billy Hamilton to the Royals. 1-year, $4.25M, $1M buyout on a $7.5M option for 2020.

 

The guy always seemed to get us. 7 of his career 21 HRs were against the Brewers.

Gordon/Hamilton/Phillips could be a very good defensive outfield.

Their defense is superb at every position except 1b and 3b. Escobar and Merrifield are easy plus defenders, and their OF defense might be the best in baseball aside from maybe the Red Sox. Also Perez is good behind the plate. They are certainly giving their pitchers every chance to put up low run totals. They have a ton of speed to work with as well, if they ever get on base.

Hamilton is a great fit for that OF. Perfect use of his defensive talents.

It will be interesting to see how they divvy up playing time with Soler and Bonafacio in there as well. I really hope Phillips gets steady playing time for the Royals.

They really need to phase out Gordon. He's only got one year left on his contract -- give him some DH time, occasional start, etc. But the other guys, including Phillips, are the team's future. Let Phillips and Hamilton and Solar and whomever get the bulk of the starts and see who sinks and who swims.
