While I really like the Grandal signing, it’s an all-in move since it’s only a one year deal. That contradicts the decision to move the young guys to the starting rotation and letting them grow. In that regard I think this season will be the dark spot on Stearns’ resume.

There is absolutely nothing worse than watching hitters hold their bat on their shoulders when behind in the count with two strikes, and the pitch comes right down the middle.

Positives:

 

1. Shaw seems to be breaking out of his slump.

 

2. Davies pitched effectively, albeit not efficiently.

 

3. Albers and Claudio looked good out of the pen.

 

Otherwise, pretty frustrating game.

Grandal has been a good sign. The problem is Moose tied up a lot of dough. I would have tried to get by at second and spent his money on pitching.

I’m glad they have Grandal too; but what’s the best case scenario for Grandal a 3 WAR player?

 

The step backwards by the pitching staff will likely more than offset what Grandal adds and he’ll leave as a free agent after the season meaning it would have been better to stick with Kratz and Pina and spend that 18 million adding talent to the pitching staff
