2021-07-31: Brewers (Woodruff) at Braves (Muller) [Brewers lose, 8-1 -- Blown strike 3 call precedes Braves HR to break tie; Curtiss falls victim to some bad luck while getting tagged for 5 runs]

I hate hacking 3-0. If you're going to do it you has better make better contact than that.

While Woodruff is a nice hitter for a P, he is still pretty bad, and there already are 2 outs. That is the exact time an 8 hitter needs to hack on 3-0. Especially since Pina has been seeing it well lately.

EDIT: If a PH is a foregone conclusion, then, sure, take on 3-0. It wasn't though.

He's really not a nice hitter. He hit a towering home run against Kershaw in the NLCS and is living off that reputation through no fault of his own. He's been made out to be a great hitting pitcher by fans despite not doing much of anything with the bat since that home run.

Screw this ump.
"This is a very simple game. You throw the ball, you catch the ball, you hit the ball. Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose, sometimes it rains." Think about that for a while.

Nah, take the walk and take a shot with the pinch hitter. The absolute most they were going to get out of Woodruff anyway was one more inning and they only ended up getting one more out.

No one was up in the Brewers pen. No PH.

Gives several inches off the outside corner all night. Then doesn't call a pitch that has plenty of the inside corner.

I'm so sick and tired of the incompetence of MLB umps while MLB sits there in the corner shrugging their shoulders and doing nothing about it while thinking up what stupid rules they can enforce next instead.

Statcast should have a wpa for umps missed calls and the results of it. In this instance that must have been a +35.5wpa missed strike 3 turned in to a 2run HR.

In Atlanta's favor

Right, and I totally disagree with that decision and approach. You would have the bases loaded and a shot to win the game and your starter isn't at his best and is approaching the end of the line anyway. There was no reason not to just be happy with the 5 he gave you and try to get a 2 run hit with the bases loaded and two out rather than just concede the opportunity just to maybe squeeze one more inning out of him.

Don’t understand Reyes here instead of Tellez. Rowdy rakes against lefties.

We'll need another PH later. With no one on I'd rather just save Tellez for a better situation. Let Reyes make his out now.

This would be prime time for CC to get thrown out and fined and suspended calling out the umpiring vs the Brewers consistently wrong and in the opponents favor. Not only did that cost a 1-1 tie game, but instead of a K and potential going 6IP with 1ER, that call now leaves Woodruff with a 5.1IP 3ER line. Quality start vs not a quality start. in a very tight Cy Young Race, this is a game and bad ump call that may cost Woodruff in the end.

We are going to lose some games the rest of this season. I understand that. I can tolerate that. What shouldn't be tolerated is losing games because the boys in blue can't do their job.
