- RHP Noah Zavolas released from AA Biloxi

26-year old RHP Noah Zavolas from Massachusetts joined the Brewers organization in December 2018 as part of the OF Domingo Santana – OF Ben Gamel trade with the Mariners.

Over three seasons (2019-2021), inclusive of the lost Covid year, he posted encouraging results at High-A Carolina and AA Biloxi: 11-12 record in 44 starts, 3.65 ERA, 1.16 WHIP, 7.9 K/9 over 253 2/3 innings.

Zavolas got a late start to the 2022 season in a repeat of AA ball and was rather disastrous over his first nine outings: 8.56 ERA, 1.73 WHIP, 12 home runs allowed over 41 innings, but he seemed to have turned things around over his final five appearances: 2.61 ERA, 1.16 WHIP, 1 home run allowed over 20 2/3 innings.

After throwing 4 shutout innings to earn a save on August 5th, he went on the season-ending injured list 6 days later and was subsequently released. We wish the former Harvard student and 18th round selection (just a $5,000 signing bonus) of the Mariners in 2018 nothing but success in his future endeavors.

The ACL Brewers Blue have released INF Daniel Castillo.

We wish him the best of luck in his future baseball and other life endeavors.

This is too bad, especially as I believe the organization had been quite high on him at a time. Signed in July 2017 out of Venezuela, Daniel Castillo debuted in 2018 as a 17-year old in the DSL, playing principally shortstop and posting a .570 OPS with 9 stolen bases in 17 attempts.

Just 18 when he made the move stateside in 2019, Castillo spent his entire time that year playing shortstop, producing a rough .541 OPS in Arizona with 8 stolen bases in 10 attempts.

After the Covid wipeout, he spent most of the first half of the 2021 season at Low-A Carolina, where the then-20-year old struggled with a .512 OPS in 72 plate appearances, before going back to Arizona and coming through with an .841 OPS in 73 plate appearances. That season, Castillo stole 9 bases and was not caught once, while he split time defensively between shortstop, third base and second base.

Breaking camp in 2022, we'd expected him to get another tour at Low-A Carolina, but there was no placement whatsoever until he went on the 7-day injured list in early June. As it is, he didn't play at all this season, so his last official game was in Arizona in September 2021.

I echo Joseph's well-wishes to Mr. Castillo in his upcoming life adventures.

MiLB Player Page - Two summers on the island for the 6'2", 220 lb. Dominican native, raw numbers middling-to-poor, 5.32 ERA in 23.2 innings, then you notice that he has also allowed 13 unearned runs - teammates can get one in trouble, but one has to overcome and bail them out from time to time as well. Will be 22 in March and will miss a good chunk of whatever season he returns to, if at all.

Brewers sign 25-year-old RH reliever Kaleb Bowman - his stateside professional career is six games with Gastonia of the independent Atlantic League this season. Born in Virginia, he pitched for Appalachian State in Noth Carolina in 2018 and 2019 (Appalachian's roster page details those years).

Via RotoworldBowman was virtually unhittable, posting a 1.29 ERA, 0.57 WHIP and 10/0 K/BB ratio across seven innings (six appearances) this season for the Gastonia Honey Hunters of the independent Atlantic League. The 25-year-old right-hander represents a speculative lottery ticket for the Brewers.

His college head coach - To say that I am proud of Kaleb would be the understatement of a century! His route is so inspiring and literally the most difficult that I have ever watched someone take to affiliated baseball! The @Brewers just signed a phenomenal person and pitcher!

Bowman has pitched in Australia and Germany - this link (From No Professional Experience to Four Seasons Overseas to the Brewers) details Bowman winning the Triple Crown of Germany's league in 2022 and provides additional background.

Finally, if you're noticing the long hair in the video, this tweet is from June 2019 and it would appear Kaleb's doing it for the honorable cause once again.

Congrats to Kaleb!
