Brewers sign 25-year-old RH reliever Kaleb Bowman - his stateside professional career is six games with Gastonia of the independent Atlantic League this season. Born in Virginia, he pitched for Appalachian State in Noth Carolina in 2018 and 2019 (Appalachian's roster page details those years).

Via RotoworldBowman was virtually unhittable, posting a 1.29 ERA, 0.57 WHIP and 10/0 K/BB ratio across seven innings (six appearances) this season for the Gastonia Honey Hunters of the independent Atlantic League. The 25-year-old right-hander represents a speculative lottery ticket for the Brewers.

His college head coach - To say that I am proud of Kaleb would be the understatement of a century! His route is so inspiring and literally the most difficult that I have ever watched someone take to affiliated baseball! The @Brewers just signed a phenomenal person and pitcher!

Bowman has pitched in Australia and Germany - this link details Bowman winning the Triple Crown of Germany's league in 2022 and provides additional background.

Finally, if you're noticing the long hair in the video, this tweet is from June 2019 and it would appear Kaleb's doing it for the honorable cause once again.

Congrats to Kaleb!

Back in October we shared a bunch of details on the Kaleb Bowman signing as seen above.

If you enjoy reading about the dedication required to reach a baseball dream (or at least the steps toward that ultimate goal), then this follow-up is for you. Awesome stuff here:

RHP signed as a minor league free agent by the Crew this week and placed on Nashville's roster.

2022: 1-15 W-L, 7.82 ERA, 23 G (22 starts), 76 IP, 102 H, 15 HR, 51 BB, 54 K, 2.01 WHIP

Maybe it's not fair to focus just on 2022 for RHP Tobias Myers, a 2016 draft pick of the Orioles out of a Florida high school. Just one year later, he was dealt by the O's to the Rays for former #1 overall pick SS Tim Beckham.

In November 2021, Myers was dealt to the Guardians and added to Cleveland's 40-man roster. In early July of 2022, he was traded again as part of a DFA deal to the Giants. A month after that, he was claimed on waivers by the White Sox. Chicago released him this past September 19th.

Sometimes Wikipedia's not the best place to turn, but Myers' page does a very solid job of detailing his baseball journey.

Cleveland fans online are very much lamenting the loss of Junior Caminero, who was dealt to Tampa for Myers.

So, the Brewers see something here, If Myers ever makes his way back on the Crew's 40-man roster, he'd have two option years remaining. But goodness, it's tough to overlook those 2022 results.

Though unlikely, technically Myers is available for selection in the Rule 5 draft next month,

Unlikely Myers received a big-league camp invite, the Brewers normally announce that.

Brewers' transaction page indicates the signing of recently turned 19-year-old RHP Elias Gonzalez, a 6'1" 185 lb. native of San Pedro de Macoris, Dominican Republic.

And, to follow up here, it would appear Gonzalez has officially been assigned to the DSL Brewers 1.

I don't see it. He didn't even strike out a lot of guys in 2022 (though he did so in 2021, but still with mediocre results).
Maybe there's something they can fix.

Brewers sign 18-year old Cuban outfielder Yunior Santiesteban.

More from Francys Romero: “Excellent body (6´3, 185 lbs) with room for more development, left-handed contact hitter, speed and plus arm, above average. 320 AVG, 5 XBH, 11 SB in 12 attempts and 16 BB in the last National U18 in Cuba.”

Following up here:

It would appear 'Yunior' is being listed as 'Idalberto' in the transaction wire. To that end:

  • OF Idalberto Santiesteban has been assigned to the DSL Brewers 1

He will join the above-mentioned and recently acquired RHP Elias Gonzalez

  • 2 weeks later...

A German Brewer? You don't say. We sure have a Lag(er) jam at the catcher position but, I've always said: A German Brewer will cure what Ales you.

I'm fine with signing the kid as long as he's a stout defender.

And in other Dec. 1st Transaction News:

(Takes moment to catch breath)

- LHP Adam Seminaris was assigned to the Biloxi Shuckers (as many of us predicted)

- RHP Kaleb Bowman was assigned to the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers (I'm excited to see this young man sling it in 2023)

- RHP Henry Garrido was assigned to the DSL Brewers 2. Let's hope 2023 is more kind than Garrido's last stint in 2021.

@CheeseheadInQC:

RHP Max Lazar was officially assigned to the Triple-A Nashville Sounds today

?

I am guessing that is a paper move that protects him from the minor league rule 5 draft. It is bizarre how some of those get reported and some don’t.

I was wondering the same this am over coffee: Did they do this to prevent him from being scooped up in the Double-A portion of the Rule 5?

I would gather you are spot on. It's kind of the only thing that makes sense at face value.

We wanted to give some send-off messages to three recently released minor leaguers (Tyler Gillies, Zach Mort, Christian Tripp), while adding a bit more color on Caden Lemons' late September release:

27-year old Canadian RHP Tyler Gillies signed with the Brewers in April 2019 after going undrafted out of the University of British Columbia in 2017 and spending 1.5 years in Canadian independent ball (Quebec, Brantford). Almost 24 years old at the time, Gillies went straight to then-Low-A Wisconsin and was terrific: 3.17 ERA, 1.15 WHIP, 10.8 K/9, 5-2 record in 54 IP (all in relief). However, he was diagnosed with cancer (Hodgkin’s lymphoma) in December 2019, underwent chemotherapy in early 2020 and then had a re-occurrence in August 2020. More chemotherapy followed, then a bone marrow transplant in January 2021. Amazingly, Gillies returned to the mound at High-A Wisconsin in April 2022, making 23 relief appearances this year (6.58 ERA, 1.65 WHIP, 10.0 K/9). Tyler’s obviously one heck of a fighter, which we know will serve him well in his long life ahead.

25-year old Virginian RHP Zach Mort joined the Brewers in January 2021 after being an 8th round pick of the Cubs (George Mason University) and playing the 2018 and 2019 seasons with them. Over 2021/2022, Mort threw 32 2/3 IP at Low-A Carolina and 143 2/3 IP at High-A Wisconsin, producing a combined 5.67 ERA, 1.43 WHIP and 8.9 K/9. He seemed to find his groove as a reliever in 2022 (2.77 ERA, 0.98 WHIP, 6-1 record), but struggled mightily in six spot starts (10.13 ERA). We wish Zach the best of luck in his next adventure.

25-year old Texan (though born in Ohio) RHP Christian Tripp signed with the Crew in July 2021 after being a 13th round pick of the Mets (University of Nex Mexico), playing the 2018 and 2019 seasons with them, getting a May 2020 Covid release and pitching for two clubs in independent ball. Over 2021/2022, Tripp pitched 10 2/3 IP in the Arizona Complex League, 50 IP at Low-A Carolina and 26 1/3 IP at High-A Wisconsin, delivering a combined 4.03 ERA, 1.41 WHIP and 10.2 K/9. He was actually quite good at Carolina in the first half of 2022 (3.28 ERA, 1.22 WHIP, 11.7 K/9), but perhaps the Brewers didn’t see enough at Wisconsin (5.47 ERA, 1.63 WHIP, 6.5 K/9) to stick with him. Good luck to Christian on his next opportunity.

Now-24 year old Alabaman RHP Caden Lemons was a 2nd round pick (46th overall) of the Brewers in 2017 out of Vestavia Hills High School. He pitched 32 1/3 innings in 2017/2018 in Arizona and Helena (combined 4.46 ERA, 1.43 WHIP, 7.6 K/9), missing the first half of that 2018 season in an unfortunate prelude of things to come. Lemons lost the entire 2019 and 2020 years to injuries and the Covid wipeout, only returning to action in May 2021 for 4 games at Low-A Carolina (9.53 ERA, 2.56 WHIP, 11.1 K/9 in 11 1/3 IP) before going back on the shelf. Caden made no appearances in 2022. Still quite young, we wish him abundant success in the years ahead.

I predict he'll be as good as Darrell Porter.

The Brewers have signed RHP Adonis Medina to a Minor League contract and assigned him to the Nashville Sounds:

He was as high as #46 rated prospect (BP 2018), but hasn't produced past A+ ball. Might be worthwhile to roll the dice.
