The Rays have officially selected the contract of RHP Trevor Kelley. As the article notes, he has an option remaining so he won't be exposed to waivers. This is good news for the long-time highly successful Minor League reliever. Hopefully, he can make it work at the MLB level in 2023. Wishing him all the best!

RHP Nash Walters (3rd round, 2015) released by the Angels. Walters faced three batters (H, BB, out) in the season finale for the Angels last fall in his MLB debut. Walters had been outrighted and re-signed after the season.

RHP Eric Yardley released by Arizona, where he was in camp on a minor-league deal.

Closing the spring training INF/OF Weston Wilson loop:

Though he made it to the final cuts after a very solid spring, he was ultimately sent back to minor league camp. It would appear he'll take his talents to the Lehigh Valley IronPigs (man, I love that name) of the International League.

Sadly, the IronPigs don't face the Sounds in 2023 regular season play, so we'll just have to keep hoping Wilson gets his opportunity to show his talents with the Phillies at some point this season.

Unsurprising development here, LHP Leoni De La Cruz has already found a new home.  He signed with the independent league Gastonia Honey Hunters yesterday.  Would not be surprised at all if he found his way back to affiliated ball this summer.

Back in July of 2018 the Brewers acquired reliever Joakim Soria from the White Sox for 12th overall pick in 2014 Kodi Medeiros and then Dominican Summer League RHP Wilber Perez.

Perez was released by Chicago Wednesday. He did not advance beyond high-A with them.

As for Medeiros - he recently announced his retirement on Instagram, topping out at AAA.

Following up:

Topa has now appeared in 3 MLB contests - including todays scoreless 1 IP, 1K (10 P, 9 S) versus the Cubbies at Wrigley. His overall line is currently 3 IP, 1 H, 2 BB, 3 K. Fine form from Topa! Let's hope he keeps it up and sticks with the Big Club.

So far, in the early KBO season, RHP Dylan File has not appeared for the Doosan Bears. The Bears hold a record of 6-4 but it would appear File has yet to see action. Hopefully, he's healthy. And, hopefully, we see some stats compile soon.

OF Korry Howell is with the Padres' Double-A affiliate in San Antonio to start 2023. He is experiencing a slow start to his season with a 0.190 BA / 0.428 OPS / 1 RBI / 11 K / 0 BB / 0 SB in 5 G and 21 AB. Hopefully, he can get things going. The Missions currently have him primarily in CF with a single game over in RF.

If you tracked OF Tristan Petersmovement post-trade to San Francisco at last year's deadline, he was later shipped to the Rays organization (boy, they sure now how to pluck former Brewers). He is currently playing for the Montgomery Biscuits (logo favorite) in the Southern League.

In an extremely small 5 G sample, he's off to an interesting start:

18 AB / 0.222 BA / 0.555 OPS / 4 K / 2 BB / 3 SB / 0 CS / 3 R / 2 RBI

It would appear he is playing primarily LF - the same place we routinely watched him with the T-Rats.

LHP Antoine Kelly  begins his 2023 campaign where he ended 2022: with the Rangers Double-A affiliate, the 'Frisco RoughRiders' (Texas League). It would appear he is in a strictly bullpen role to begin the young season. He has appeared in 1 G pitching a grand total of 1 2/3 IP: 1 H / 3 BB / 4 K / 0.167 BAA / 2.40 WHIP.

This extremely small sample size certainly reminds me of the Antoine Kelly I watched with the T-Rats. I wonder if he'll ever harness the control and accuracy that could take his stuff to new heights.

Brett Sullivan (alongside Howell in last year's C Victor Caratini acquisition) is again with the Padres' Triple-A affiliate El Paso Chihuahuas. He has seen meaningful action in 7 of their 11 contests to date.

28 AB / 5 R / 3 RBI / 2 2B / 1 HR / 4 BB / 3 K / 1 SB / 1 CS / 0.214 / 0.717 OPS / 1 E / 3 PB / 8 SB / 2 CS

Former Brewers 2020 5th Rd pick INF Hayden Cantrelle  (last year's Alex Jackson trade and acquisition via the Marlins) begins his 2023 campaign with the San Francisco Giants organization and their Double-A Richmond Flying Squirrels affiliate. Catchy moniker, I say.

It would appear early he is very much a part-time player. In his extremely small sample-size:

3 G / 8 AB / 2 R / 1 RBI / 1 BB / 1 SB / 0.125 BA / 0.489 OPS

He is again primarily a 2B but he has seen some action at 3B.

Clint Coulter, our 2012 first round pick, could actually earn his first MLB call-up (with the Giants). Once a catcher, now a 29-year old corner outfielder, he’s got a 14-game hitting streak and 19 RBIs in AAA Sacramento already.

Congrats to 25-year-old RHP Nash Walters (26 next month), signed by the White Sox and assigned to AA Birmingham this week. He had been released by the Angels in spring training after making his MLB debut in the LA season finale last year.
