some nice pitching today Peguero

He's got a nice looking sinker. Saw someone compare him to Gustave today, and it feels like a really good comparison. Should be a decent shuttle arm over the next two seasons.

That was super interesting, as @Matthew Trueblood that Yelich double was smoked! First contact, a rope in the air? Hell yeah!

Pitching was pretty shoddy most of the game from Cubs perspective, but nice to see the bats line up.

Best thing was how adept Urias looked at 2B, that dive and throw to 1st was sublime

Also some of the new relief arms looked tasty. I liked the look of Yeager, and Peguero's sinker was quality

Frelick hit a ball harder today than Kwan probably managed all season last year... I may expect some big things

Interesting to see Frelick in RF while Mitchell stays in CF. We've now seen Frelick in all 3 OF spots compared to only Mitchell in CF

They definitely seem want his bat in the lineup, perhaps starting on Opening Day following the Taylor injury.

I suspect Frelick's involvement in the WBC has more to do with maximizing his playing time right now while he's still in camp than the Taylor injury. That said, I'm also sure the Taylor injury has opened that door a little bit for the possibility he gets that opening day nod as well. It's going to be a whirlwind of a month for him, it'll be impressive if he keeps producing through all of it!

Also could be to get him as many ABs as possible until he leaves for WBC next week.

Yeah Italy doesn't start playing games until next Thursday.

That's why it is, but he leaves tomorrow morning not next week.

Probably. Frelick will have an advantage over others such as Naquin if he is indeed able to play all three OF positions. Otherwise, we really lack a backup CF…

Toro looking pretty damn good as utility guy, bench off bat... I see him making OD roster over Turang, Miller, Hiura.

FWIW, looks like it’s going to be Corbin and Marcus Stroman on OD. Both pitching today which lines them up perfectly for OD.

Interesting that they have Freddy going on Saturday and Woody going on Sunday. Maybe they plan on having Woody skip the Chicago series and pitch the home opener due to his Reynaud’s. Of course, they can always just switch them, too.

I had wondered a while back if the Brewers would have Woody skip the Cubs series to avoid pitching in the cold. Seems like something that would make sense to do.

I agree. Woody’s opening start in Chicago last year tanked his ERA for a while. In fact, it’s the only reason why he didn’t have another sub 3.00 ERA season.

Nothing wrong with having him start against the Mets for the home opener instead. Beats having to watch Lauer or Miley go up against that offense.

Leadoff Yeli is good.

Yeli is back my friends! Can't wait to watch him be close to the player he was in 18/19, not those power numbers but that dynamic player type.

Pretty sure Mitchell is the better expected defender in cf than Frelick is expected. If both are starting a game you would expect this alignment. Remove Mitchell and Frelick takes over CF.

He is but Mitchell is also considered a much better fit in RF due to his arm so I had seen some speculation that in games they both play Frelick would play Center & Mitchell in Right.
