Infrastructure improvements and intelligent traffic systems have  been viewed as a good fit for machine learning applications for a long time. The industry just tends to be resistant to change as funding / liability causes conservative approaches.

The really crazy thing to think about, IMO, is that a lot of MLB teams were probably looking at this data years before any of us had access to it.

I'm sure they had it in varying degrees.  I'm sure there were a lot of different variants to see how to best collect the data (type of cameras, angles, sensors, etc..) before they standardized it at all ballparks so they can compare the data.

"Rock, sometime, when the team is up against it, and the breaks are beating the boys, tell 'em to go out there with all they got and win just one for the Uecker. I don't know where I'll be then, Rock but I'll know about it; and I'll be happy."

We also have Urias for 2B, too, FWIW.

i think at this point he is what he is...hopefully he can be a nice utility player going forward but i would be willing to flip him for bullpen help if we can get anything of value for him

The Brewers aren't flipping one of their best position players for a RP.

I'm very excited for his hot start, as I've been pessimistic about his becoming anything more than an average shortstop. But watching him play 2nd base, and seeing his impact on the bases, puts me in the Kolten Wong comps... which is AWESOME. One might even say better than Wong as Turang's athleticism allows him to be more versatile. But as a lefty hitter, with gold-glove worthy talent at 2nd, he's the bee's knees.

I also believe that the new rules are making his talents more valuable. 2nd base had become a defense-unnecessary position in recent seasons (e.g. Moose/Travis Shaw), but with the shift, Turang is making gold-glove shortstop plays at 2nd. Not just the side-to-side range and arm from awkward spots, but the ability to chase down would-be Texas League singles.

You're a great poster, for sure. I'm gonna get carried away in the moment, but it is what keeps me invested. Hope is a beautiful thing.

Maybe the best  of things.
