The High-A Timber Rattlers need a series opening victory over Cardinals’ affiliate Peoria to break a 3-game skid. RHP Alexander Cornielle (5.63 ERA, 1.41 WHIP, 9.8 K/9 in 32 IP) makes his 8th start of 2023. RF Joe Gray Jr. has 3 HRs and 9 RBIs over his last 4 games.

We have a delayed start in Nashville to start the evening. It certainly appears, by the radar, to be weather related. The first pitch is tentatively scheduled an hour later at 4:05 PST (my time zone).

Hey now. Luke Adams just ripped a solo jack over the wall in left center. Let's go, young fella! His 5th of the season. 1-0 Muddies.

This home plate ump in Lynchburg is, shall we say, 'tight'. Yikes. He's chiseling the strike zone down - for both teams - down to a caricature of the actual zone.

RHP Will Rudy opens with an uncharacteristic walk (5th on the year) but that was partly related to a botched strike 2 call. Thankfully, Sibrian gunned down the runner at 2B as the second batter ripped a deep ball off the wall in left center for a double. One down. Man on 2nd. Rudy is not as sharp as he's been. Let's hope he finds his stuff.

Nice start to the 2nd frame in Lyncyburg. Much improving, Gregory Barrios ripped a single down the middle of the infield and takes 2nd base for his 11th steal. Hedbert Perez works a full count walk. Men on first and second. Nobody down. Sibrian to the dish.

Have. A. Night. Jose Sibrian! That's a CS in the first on a bang-bang play with good pop - a key play to maintain the scoreless first. How about taking a 1-0 inside and in offering over the wall in left field - absolutely golfed - for a 3-run jack. First pitch after a balk sent runners to 2nd and 3rd. His 2nd HR. It was a beauty. 4-0 Mudcats baby.

Second batter of the second frame...Lynchburg announcer: "I'm not sure where it missed, but it did, and we're 2-0." I'm not the only one seeing it: this home plate ump has reduced the zone by a good 2-3" all around.

Ump blows a gorgeous outer corner dart to call the walk on the full count. I've counted three stolen strikes now from this ump. Rudy is credited with his 2nd walk. This ump is getting paid out between innings. Rudy is not pleased. I saw a clear "Oh my god!" mouthed after that walk call. Heavy dose of heaters in the 2nd frame from Rudy who continues to attempt to discover what this strike zone actually is.

That's Barrios' second ripped single up the middle. This one results in a two-out rbi. 5-0 Mudcats. I'm telling y'all, this is a different player at the plate these past two weeks. He's ascending. Getting comfortable. And, repeatedly putting good wood on the ball.

With all the talk of RHP Logan Henderson and RHP Jacob Misiorowski...in the back drop is ol' RHP Will Rudy who continues to absolutely deal in every outing. He just completed his 5th scoreless frame. 5-0 Mudcats.

Wow. That's the 2nd dart I've seen from the Brewers OF in the past week. This time it's OF Monte Harrison who rips an absolute rocket off a fly out to LF to end the 3rd inning on a PO and OF Assist to Home Plate. Glorious. Sounds still trail 2-0 but that play was fantastic.

INF Tyler Black extends his OB streak to 24 games on a RF triple knocking in 2 in the process. 3-0 Shuckers. The training staff is out now, however as he may have messed up his back on the slide. Ruh roh. And he's staying in for now. What a stud. Take a look:

There are few better defensive infielders in the entire Brewers system than Ethan Murray. His range at 2B is ridiculous given his former days as the T-Rats every day SS in years past. He just made another fantastic diving stab and throw out to start the 5th frame.  I do love watching him play defense.

The Sounds keep chipppppppping away at the Charlotte lead. Payton Henry  knocks in a rbi single to RF as Dorrian races in from 2B just beating the throw and tag by a half step standing up. Whew baby. 3-2 Charlotte. And, we're onto the bottom of the 6th I believe.

Feels like Cornielle has had 1 blowup inning in every start this season where he just completely loses it. That inning feels like it is upon us today. Already walked in a run and there are still 0 outs.
