Yeah I’m beyond ready for some sort of umpire automation. I prefer the challenge system but I’ll take anything at this point.

Problem is, no amount of automation is going to help check swings. Check swings are the nobody-knows-what-happened zone of baseball. It's just a totally subjective call in a lot of cases and always will be.

I also blame Anderson on De La Cruz's awesome (though frustrating) steal of home. You just have to at least pretend you might move back toward third.

They are an exciting team that looks like the care about winning unlike the Brewers that appears like they are going through the motions. I’m sure CC will not hold anyone accountable and that sends a message to every player on this team that it doesn’t really matter how badly you screw up. CC is just not interested and is already thinking about watching his boys play baseball.

Could you let us know how you know what CC is thinking?

Yeah check swings are a mess. They need to automate them, which is easy enough to do. If the bat head clears the front of the plate, it’s a swing.

Dominant. This guy will solve one of the last two bullpen spots that has been killing us. No more Tyson Miller or Matt Bush.

Wouldn't be shocked if it's Williams, Payamps, and Uribe closing games for us in the 2nd half.

I HIGHLY doubt we oust Williams from the closer role this season unless he completely melts down at some point.  I can see Abner as a closer in the future, but not as long as Williams is on this roster.

Meant closing games out in the 7th, 8th, and 9th innings. Obviously Devin is and will remain the 9th inning guy.

Ok, that isn't how I read it...

Is there actually some tech in development to automate that? I'd be fascinated if that were the case...I just feel like, given the speed and size of the bat head (and the difficulty of getting a perfect overhead angle), even an automated call is going to have a margin of error that essentially replicates where we are now. Meaning, instead of the umpire guessing, it'll just be the technology.

I suppose you could embed trackers in the bat (but which part?) and cameras at the very front of the plate (but how big are the cameras?), but that seems like it would be tough.

And now the crappy balk call costs the Brewers a run.

I am 100% shocked that Uribe is pitching more than an inning here...

I certainly don't know what CC thinks.  But it seems like he's experimenting with some marginal bullpen guys to see if any of them have the right stuff.  Some of them don't, and that hurts.  Maybe he'll stop giving guys dangerous chances and settle on guys who will help us win in the 2d half.   Just my guess.

Uribe is a guy who will help us win for a long time.

How can this even happen.  To call a balk, there has to be a reason to think there was a balk to begin with.  I can see how the umps might miss an actual balk happening, but to just call a balk on a pitch that was obviously not even there to call is beyond ridiculous.  You will never see me ******** about the umps, this board does it on a constant basis, but that was just plain garbage.
