As I said in Tuesday night's report, Myers was eating at his self-served change-up buffet - he was indeed getting many a swing and miss. Myers flashes like this enough to keep you very intrigued for his further development. Where he has struggled in 2023 is when his relatively flat four-seamer sees too much of the zone. He has been susceptible to the long ball and hard contact, again, when he is forced to find the plate with, what I personally view as, his most hittable pitch. Location is so key here (as always) and the off-speed is key.

The first game of today's pivotal doubleheader for Low-A Carolina at home against Down East sees the return of starting RHP Will Rudy (last pitched August 11; 3.57 ERA in 75.2 IP) and RF Kay-Lan Nicasia (last played August 17; .663 season OPS). Go Mudcats!!

AA Biloxi have won 4 consecutive games and seek a victory at Tennessee tonight to clinch this week's series. 21-year old RHP Carlos F. Will Rudy pitched 2 innings of no-hit ball in his return from injury, then Yujanyer Herrera has kept Down East off the board for the next 4 innings as well. Unfortunately, we didn't score either...until now.

Luke Adams leads off the bottom of the 6th inning with a double and Jadher Areinamo follows with a 1-out double to give the Mudcats a 1-0 lead. This is a 7-inning game. Win it men!

Otherworldly from Jadher Areinamo. Gonna be fun to see him make the majors one day:

Areinamo doing Areinamo things. On the nightly! AND, Avina showing off that cannon I've been talking about. That underrated range and chase down. Both young men are going to be fun fun fun to watch rise through the Levels. Love it!

...and .127-hitting (.345 in the Arizona Complex League though) OF Reidy Mercado hustles out on infield hit to add another run. 2-0 Carolina. They're headed to the 7th and final scheduled inning.

Nice to see Reidy Mercado get in on some run-scoring success! His single scored Areinamo and it's now 2-0 as the Mudcats head to the top of the 7th and try to gain an early half game on Lynchburg and Fredericksburg!

Would love Areinamo to get the BBs up but he's been a force at the plate for a while now. Driving the ball in the air pretty consistently.

I don't say this lightly but he may already be the best all-around defensive infielder in the system. Age is considered here. But, the savvy he demonstrates and the smarts on a nightly basis is just an infinite pleasure for this Brewers Minor League baseball schlepp over here.

Herrera opened the 7th allowing a single. He then K'd his next batter on 3 pitchers (two heaters high and outside and then a gorgeous change-up). He is now 2-0 on his next batter and Rodriguez is warming in the bullpen. This is Herrera's 5th inning pitched.

Unfortunately, we have to wonder about Avina's health, after he was subbed out after striking out to end the 4th inning. He actually threw out TWO baserunners trying to stretch singles to doubles in the early innings. And he was hit by a pitch in the 2nd inning.

Herrera now walked a batter on a pitch way inside in a full count. Men on 1st and 2nd. Diaz has called a timeout and he is conferencing with the entire infield. No coaches. Herrera will keep grinding.

He is now 3-0 on his next batter. Yikes. THis is tense. He is only at 55 pitches. He walked him. Bases now juiced. Ruh roh. This 7th inning has taken a turn. And, we are making a call to the Pen.

Needless to say, this is what we call a huge moment for RHP Yerlin Rodriguez and this Mudcats team. 2-0 lead. Bases loaded top of 7th. One out. Let's see if Rodriguez can find that zone.😬

I'm really surprised Estevez just let Herrera load the bases up. Yerlin Rodriguez better have his command or the Mudcats might lose this lead.

First pitch not even close to the zone. At the batters ankles. Diaz makes a tremendous stop. Next pitch low and in 2-0 count. Third pitch a breaking ball way above the zone. This is reminiscent of recent outings: wild. Four pitch walk. Up and in not even close. Not a single pitch. 2-1 Mudcats. Bases still full. One out.

And he walks the first hitter he faces on 4 pitches not even remotely close to the strike zone. 2-1 Carolina leads with the bases loaded and 1 out.

And now a wild pitch. Game tied. Runners on 2nd and 3rd and 1 out. Estevez really bungled this one up.
