The reason this game is a must-win is that in the best-of-three league semifinal series, Brisbane dropped a 7-0 game in the opener, but it was hardly the fault of starting LHP Brian Fitzpatrick. You'll see this in both the box score and in the game summary which praised the southpaw.

Tayden Hall was 0-for-3 with a walk in the loss.

Bandits still alive, next game is for a trip to the finals!

Brisbane 12, Perth 9 (box score)

An eventful game summary with Tayden Hall and Sam Gardner notations.

Gardner only allowed one of three inherited runners to score and was money for 3.1 innings.

Hall was on base four times (singled twice and walked in addition to the HR seen above).

The lone bummer about tonight's finale is that Gardner most very likely won't be available.

All in all, despite the semi-final loss, that was a fabulously productive AFL season for the Brewers and possibly a springboard for their three men abroad. Congrats to all involved! Now, fly home safely and get ready for the upcoming season.

Perhaps this was obvious to those of us dutifully checking this thread (thanks again Jim and Daniel for keeping those updates pumping out daily!), but RHP Sam Gardner did indeed win 'Relief Pitcher of the Year':
