You served us well, 2023 Minor League Transaction Thread (now locked).

We await 2024's moves within this new thread.

- Signed C David Garcia and assigned to AAA Nashville

The switch-hitting Garcia spent 7 years (6 seasons) in the Rangers’ organization before reaching minor league free agency. He’ll turn 24 in February.

That's now GarciaRamon Rodriguezand Navarreto. And, of course, Quero as the top prospect right in the mix.

Technically it's a minor league transaction, but because catcher Austin Nola netted a big-league camp invite (growing that list to nine players), you can read about it on our Major League Forum,

He was 'officially' assigned to the Nashville Sounds, regardless. I would opine this is a 'Minor League Transaction' despite the Major League Camp invite.

The addendum here is: the MiLB transaction wire (from the get go with this Nola signing) have listed him as a 1B. Could be nothing. Could be a mistake. Could be something.

Equal parts minor league transaction and int'l. update, and please refer to our international signing thread on our draft forum today (as well as Curt's coverage among others)

Add 17-year-old Nicaraguan RHP Josue Toledo to this anomalous transaction pattern. On the same transactions page...yet mysteriously absent from the International Signing class listings. 🤷‍♂️

*** I will add here, however, in Hogg's article re: the Int'l Class he alludes to a 35-member 2024 Int'l Class (!!). SO, I am going to pre-suppose this is some strange clerical mix up for now. As of this morning, Baseball America still lists 'only' 25 players for the Brewers class.

Toledo and King are the two oldest members of the signing class I believe. I wonder if the fact they were likely eligible to sign last season led to them being reported differently.

Toledo is listed here

And yes, on the age vs. getting the official online transaction treatment.

Sure we're going to see these five players placed on the Brewers' transaction page at some point, but for now, 30 of the 35 announced international signings are listed there.

The ones yet to be listed:

  • RHP Dalvin Bodre, Dominican Republic
  • C Luis Corobo, Venezuela
  • LHP Victor Emiliano Garcia, Mexico
  • SS Joandrew Pena, Venezuela
  • RHP Christopher Peralta, Dominican Republic

33 of 35 now listed, only Bodre and Garcia are not.

Hopefully they are not caught up in the situation The Athletic (subscription required) has been reporting on:

Age fraud on the rise in Dominican Republic, sowing chaos for MLB teams, young players

Not suggesting they are, it's more of a nod to the work done by The Athletic on this topic.

Not official as of yet, but it seems that the Brewers are signing 1B/C Andy Yerzy to a minor league contract.

Andy Yerzy, 25, maxed out his Arizona Diamondbacks seven-year minor league control stint before seeing very limited action in the Reds' system in 2023 (career .731 OPS). He's a Canadian.

Chavez Young is 26 and was longtime Blue Jay farmhand before being shuffled to the Pirates in this January 2023 trade where you can learn more about him as well.

LHP Victor Garcia is listed on the transaction page now, so that just leaves one remaining: RHP Dalvin Bodre

** Bringing this transaction here because we'll be monitoring the player returned in the trade on the Minor League side**

Recently DFA'd (post-Junis signing) LHP Clayton Andrews has been traded to the New York Yankees for 19-year-old Nicaraguan RHP Joshua Quezada

Quote

Quezada signed with the Yankees out of Nicaragua during last year’s international amateur free agency period. He spent the season with the Yankees’ short-season affiliate in the Dominican Summer League, where he pitched 46 1/3 innings of 3.69 ERA ball. The 6’2″, 185-pound Quezada fanned exactly one quarter of his opponents and issued walks at a 9.4% clip.

Closing the Quezada loop for now, the young hurler has been assigned to the DSL Brewers 1. He will begin his Brewers career at the new Academy.
