- RHP Tyler Bryant will be officially initially assigned to the ACL Brewers

** I imagine this will be used as an assessment stint to see where he will ultimately be placed in the 2024 affiliate ranks**

- Acquired INF Casey Martin from the Phillies and assigned to AA Biloxi
- INF Christian Arroyo of AAA Nashville sent on rehab assignment to ACL Brewers
- OF Handelfry Encarnacion placed on DSL Brewers-1’s 7-day injured list

Assuming the Martin acquisition is legit (details pending), I suspect it’s in response to AA Biloxi’s Eric Brown Jr. (not yet on IL) and Ethan Murray (on 7-day IL) being injured, with the organization having no interest in demoting Freddy Zamora from AAA or promoting Jadher Areinamo or Gregory Barrios from High-A at this time.

Valerio is probably ready to return to AA from rehab, though I'm not sure they see him as an infielder anymore.  Always good to have another player, though Martin's stats this year are uninspiring.

If they’re healthy, we might as well let Eduardo Garcia and Felix Valerio play middle infield again for AA Biloxi, in my opinion, but let’s see how it plays out.

For those wondering about his recent absence, 3B Eric Bitonti tweaked a muscle but will return to the lineup this week.

Do you have any idea on how close Woodward or Crow are to pitching again? I think Crow had TJ last August so I imagine he's a ways away still, but I think Woodward had it over a year ago at this point.

Also any idea on the severity of Juan Baez shoulder injury?

Last I heard, Baez was dealing with something very minor, hence the retroactive placement on the IL originally.  I’m not sure if it has turned into something more serious or not.  This spring, the organization was hopeful for Crow to get into game action in the fall (instructs/AFL) and anything sooner would just be icing on the cake.  I will reach out for information on all three and see if anything comes back.

Woodward hopes to be back on the mound in games within the next week or two.  Outlook for Crow is still the same at this point as it was this spring.

@ARobsBrewCrew: Considering what a roller coaster the injury train has been on in 2024 every bit of news you share here is met with the biggest of smiles. Baez dealing with a minor injury is just fantastic news - when that happened live I was seriously concerned. And Crow and Woodward on schedule? The icing on the cake. Thank you for these updates!

I certainly try my best to share info when I can!  I should reiterate that it’s possible Baez will miss an extended period of time.  It was just that early indications were that his injury was minor and I haven’t heard anything different so that is still my assumption.  Sometimes those situations of hopefully only missing days turn into missing weeks or months as has been the case with Ryan Birchard and his oblique issue.

No corresponding move to add a pitcher in Carolina? Weird time to release a pitcher when you have 8 games this week unless something happened off the field.

A reminder Dylan O'Rae is only 20 years old (21 in February):

Biloxi Press Release:

SHUCKERS MAKE MULTIPLE MOVES PRIOR TO THE SERIES OPENER AGAINST ROCKET CITY

BILOXI, MS – The Biloxi Shuckers and Milwaukee Brewers have announced that 2B/OF Dylan O’Rae has been promoted from High-A Wisconsin and INF/OF Casey Martin has been assigned to the Shuckers’ active roster after being acquired via trade from the Philadelphia Phillies organization. In a corresponding move, INF Ben Metzinger has been placed on the Development List. O’Rae has been assigned No. 6 and Martin has been assigned No. 11. The Shuckers' active roster stands at 28 players.

O’Rae, the Brewers’ 20th-ranked prospect per MLB Pipeline, was promoted from High-A Wisconsin after helping the Timber Rattlers clinch their first Midwest League division title since 2012 on Sunday. At the time of promotion, O’Rae was among the Midwest League leaders in stolen bases (1st, 33), walks (3rd, 42) and on-base percentage (10th, .405). O’Rae was named a 2023 MiLB.com Brewers Organizational All-Star after a .349/.491/.395 slash line between the Rookie-level ACL Brewers and Single-A Carolina.

Martin, acquired via trade from the Phillies organization on June 14, 2024, is set to make his Brewers’ organizational debut with the Shuckers. Prior to the trade, Martin appeared in 43 games with the Double-A Reading Fightin Phils of the Eastern League. Martin was previously a third-round pick of the Phillies during the 2020 Draft out of Arkansas.

C Nick Kahle activated from Nashville's Development List (where he had been since May 21st), as C Eric Haase is in Anaheim with the big-league club (taxi squad), pending William Contreras' health status (thankfully looking good).

Taxi club placement is not considered a formal transaction, but is noted by MiLB as such:

  • C Eric Haase roster status changed by Nashville Sounds.

Awesome news for Dylan O'Rae.

Given his slap and dash style, I feel like he is a pretty good test case for how much defense improves at each successive level...
