LHP DL Hall makes his 2nd rehab start, this time for AAA Nashville in the 1st game of today’s doubleheader. The Sounds lead the home series against Charlotte 1-0. 3B Oliver Dunn has a 7-game AAA/MLB hitting streak.

High-A Wisconsin is tied 1-1 in their series at South Bend and have RHP Will Rudy (6.43 ERA, 1.39 WHIP, 6.4 K/9 in 28 IP) making his 7th start tonight. SS Jadher Areinamo has hit safely in 7 of his last 8 games.

The Low-A Mudcats are also tied 1-1 in their home series against Myrtle Beach. 19-year old RHP Bishop Letson (3.38 ERA, 1.19 WHIP, 12.9 K/9 in 16 IP) makes his 6th appearance (5th start). SS Cooper Pratt has a .903 OPS over his last 63 PAs.

AA Biloxi battled yesterday but fell behind 2-0 in their home series against Birmingham. 21-year old RHP Brett Wichrowski (3.25 ERA, 1.16 WHIP, 10,4 K/9 in 27.2 IP) makes his 8th start of 2024. Shuckers’ hitters have the highest walk rate (10.0%) in the Southern League.

I'm going to need someone else's opinion but it looked like to me that DL Hall re-injured himself on one of his last 2 pitches in the first inning. Looked awkward and was cursing when walking back to the dugout.

Jake agreed with your concern. The thin MLB/AAA/AA starting rotation is looking even moreso.

The Sounds had a chance for a big 2nd inning, with the Knights’ starter surprisingly pulled after one inning.

With Eau Claire native Dalton Roach pressed into action, Haase (95.8mph groundout), Young (102.5mph double) and Dunn (100.5mph double) all hit balls hard, then Black walked. But Dunn was thrown out going for 3rd and Black was caught stealing. So they only scored 1 run.

Still leading 2-0 however, with RHP Evan McKendry throwing in the 3rd inning.

There we go. Double for Collins. 2-run homer for Hicklen (yes, though he’s only a AAAA guy, Hicklen should have been hitting in the 9th with Hoskins out…not Miller - sorry Owen).

4-0 Sounds. McKendry’s throwing a lot of off-speed stuff.

This was only McKendry’s 2nd outing since a month-long injury, so he exits after 2 innings of work (30 pitches). Janson Junk gets the 4th inning.

Through 5 innings, Wisconsin has had one baserunner (Luke Adams single) and he was caught stealing. They trail 2-0.

Carolina is hitless through 4 innings (lots of ground ball outs) and now trails 3-0.

Collins singles, Hicklen bashes his 2nd homer of the game, just to make sure Mr. Arnold takes notice. 6-0 Sounds. Junk is attempting a 3rd inning of relief work.

Wichrowski comes out after throwing 66 pitches in 2.2 innings. Shuckers trail 4-1. Which position player wants to throw an inning or two today? I’d flip a coin between Acosta and Metzinger.

Luke Adams with an error that led to a Cubs run and 2 outs on the basepaths tonight. Not great baseball from Wisconsin.

Is it me or is there just a general malaise in the system.

Dont get me wrong. A lot to be excited about. But the teams are struggling offensively for the most part. Not a lot of hitters with breakout seasons, and a few pitchers going well, but not enough stand out performances.

It seems top down right now. Injuries are a big issue with that. And expectations probably too.
Oh well. I’ll stop the mini rant and enjoy two minor clubs at the top (one in first and the other only a game out) and the first place Brew Crew and be quiet now.

The youngest pitcher in the Arizona Complex League starts for the ACL Brewers tonight: 17-year old RHP Melvin Hernandez. He’s had 2 decent relief outings thus far. Go Brewers!

Wisconsin sorta blew a golden chance in the 7th inning (scoring 1 - should have been more), but a Jadher Areinamo 2-run double in the 8th inning brought them to within 4-3 of South Bend.

It’s up to Wood, Hall, Fernandez & Co. in the top of the 9th inning. Go T-Rats!

RHP Chad Patrick (3.19 ERA, 1.17 WHIP, 8.1 K/9 in 36.2 IP) gets the start as Nashville looks for a 3rd straight home win over Charlotte. Will RF Brewer Hicklen add to the 2 homers he already collected in the first game of the day?

Three straight called strikes end the game in South Bend, much to the chagrin of Terence Doston and (I’m guessing) ABS fans everywhere. South Bend 4. Wisconsin 3.

Yikes that's Biloxi baseball for you in the year 2024. They open the bottom of the 9th going single, double, single, triple to tie the game 4-4 with no outs. Murray, Warren, and Sparks then each strikeout with the winning run 90ft from home.

And now it’s 5-4 deficit in bottom 10. Gotta get a hit, or two. Cmon biloxi.

And they couldn't even get the Manfred runner over to 3rd base. Biloxi loses 5-4.
