If Bauers is hitting for Mitchell in the 9th why not play him in left and let Frelick play center. I don't understand Murphy ball. Lean offense and play the best 9. Stop messing around.

The theory there is that Mitchell is, in theory and pedigree, much better than Bauers offensively. And they're going to give him ample opportunity to show that. Will it be rewarded? I dunno. He's showing much better discipline at the plate but is squaring up virtually nothing. Stay tuned I guess.

Plus I think they're much more comfy with Frelick in a corner rather than CF. They're always going to put a premium on defense, and should. I would be surprised if we ever see Bauers start a game in the OF with the current roster setup.

Contreras is the engine of this team. How far does your car go if the engine is in disrepair? I still say Murphy wore him down early. The injury didn't help but I wish he had all star break off.

I don't know if they carry 2 or 3 catchers because I couldn't care less about the ASG but I'd love for him to catch 4 or 5 innings & call it a day. Even then I'm not thrilled about him flying to Texas, going through all the crap on Monday & Tuesday & flying back. At least they have Friday off too.

Frelick is fine as a slappy singles hitter but Mitchell has struggled and Wiemer is a AAAA player.

Jury is still out on Mitchell. He needs to stay healthy & get ABs. He had a nice mini-stretch in the rehab but has certainly been underwhelming so far.

Feels like underwhelming is almost an understatement. After tonight his GB% is over 80 in his brief MLB sample. Just total non-threat at the plate right now unfortunately.

Oh oh. That means trouble…..historically speaking.

You were right. 😁

I was particularly concerned when Chris Hook came out for a mound visit and then Freddy immediately gave up a double on the second pitch. Then Chris Hook said "that's why I wanted a fastball." Rock was on it all night that the Nationals were sitting on the slider. So Freddy, and William trying to be leaders in the clubhouse, are willingly disregarding the coach's instruction? It just seemed like a bad moment.
