Tue. 8/20 - DSL Season Ends; Nashville and Carolina Home, Others Hit the Road

Posted

Collin’s draws a walk. 7-5 Sounds. Two outs

Biloxi gets a run back - Casey Martin singles home Warren

But Aaron Rund gives up twp straight hits after a lead off walk. 3-2 Loons with runners at 2nd/3rd and no one out. TRats will need a big rally at the top of 9 whenever they get to it.

Huge inning for Nashville. Overshadowed by big innings against Biloxi and Wisconsin.

Shuckers now tied. And TRats down 4-2, and still going.

A 1-2-3 Seventh inning for Ashby. FB at 97 mph. Curveball is going over and his other offerings are just fine.  But two pitch with a potential third pitch and we may have a reliever in him after all.

It’s MIZ time for Nashville.

And in Great Lakes, Vargas grounds out and Lara strikes out swinging. TRats lose 4-2

Biloxi still in a tie game 5-5

Nasty curveball to end the inning for Miz. Got two weak hit outs to start. 9 pitch inning.

Seriously having to face Ashby and Misiorowski with what they have brought the past couple of weeks- nice to watch.

Biloxi offense reverting back. Man I wished they had a big offensive output tonight. Still tied 5-5.

LHP Anthony Flores has such a nice bender. He can absolutely paint that inner corner with such beauty to lefty bats. That's 3 consecutive K's as he grabs the first out in his second inning of work. His off-speed stuff is really filthy. I would love to see him develop a cutter.

He's listed as 5'11" and like 165. Does he still look that small? How high does he throw?

Sheesh. I'm entering the late innings and they are up 5-2 with LHP Russ Smith coming aboard. Yuck!

Misiorowski gets the last outs. A HBP and less than stellar control on the next batter. But buckles down and gets a grounder for an out. A strike out on a beautiful curve. Then gets the line out to RF. A less efficient inning but effective. sounds win!

Meanwhile (Joseph cover your eyes). - Shuckers gives up a HR to blow the lead.

Don't listen to Kellerowl too closely on this. He's been pretty pessimistic on Flores since he arrived in Zebulon - even claiming he was going to get smacked around (which he clearly has not). He sits 86-87 and touches 88 regularly and touched 89 at Delmarva his past road outing (I actually emailed their announcer to get confirmation). He is shorter. But he is stocky. He has a thickness. Fun pitcher. BUT, as I said, he gets late movement on the heater. Still needs to add a few ticks there.  He will live and die with his off-speed toolkit. The heater is a 'keep you honest pitch'. Hence, why I want to see the cutter. Remember, this is Low-A and we are projecting. I've loved what I've seen.

Gull dern it! LOL. I mean...this current Shuckers run very VERY much feels like a familiar story from their first half.

Yeah tough luck pitching. A bad inning. And generally no offense- this is May/June Shuckers.

But the Ashby/Miz/Yoho bullpen is much watch right now. Hope they keep it going.  That’s three nice adds to the pitching roster some time next year- along with a healthy Gasser as a starter.  A young pitching staff next year for sure.

That was a 'Welcome back to Double-A' moment for RHP Harold Chirino. Another absolute hanger dead center from the Shuckers bullpen. Uncharacteristic and just yuck. Sigh.

Man I love me some Isaac Collins. He does everything asked of him for his team. He has sneaky power he's developed over the past year plus. 2 HR over the last 10 days and 12 on his season now. Lovely.

Sounds and Shuckers played opposite games tonight

Jacksonville held hitless by the bullpen - or maybe 1 hit allowed - but scoreles

While Biloxi got only a couple of hits after getting a big lead and then the bullpen did not hold up.

I am in the midst of writing my very last DSL game summary of the summer. It is both extremely bittersweet and extremely relieving. The amount of work Jim, Daniel, and I do on a week-by-week basis from late March into September (given we all live lives outside our devout love for the Brewers) is remarkable. I continue to be extremely grateful I get to put these reports together with such incredible men.

You shine, my brother from another time zone. I don’t know how you manage work, family, baseball and everything in between. We love your amazing energy, passion and insights. Such a pleasure.
