The youngest pitcher in the Carolina League, 18-year old RHP Melvin Hernandez (2.16 ERA, 13 Ks in 16.2 IP) gets a home start against Myrtle Beach (hapless Cubs) as the Mudcats seek a 3-1 series lead. League OPS leader C Marco Dinges (1.143) is unfortunately out of the lineup for a 4th straight game.

RHP Bishop Letson (1.65 ERA, 17 Ks in 16.1 IP) takes the mound at home tonight for High-A Wisconsin, who need a victory to even their series with West Michigan. RF Hedbert Perez’s hot streak (1.225 OPS in last 40 PAs) has given him the team OPS lead (.849).

Through 4 starts, 23-year old RHP Alexander Cornielle leads the Southern League with a 0.51 ERA (in 17.2 IP) and he’ll try to shut down Columbus on the road as AA Biloxi aims for a 3-1 series advantage. The Shuckers boast the most runs scored, homers, RBIs, walks, HBP, stealing success rate and fewest strikeouts in the offensively-challenged Southern League.

23-year old RHP Logan Henderson (6 IP, 1 R. 1 H, 1 BB, 5 Ks last outing) makes his 6th start (and 5th for AAA Nashville), looking to lead his club to a 3-2 series advantage in Gwinnett. Despite a mini-slump, RF Jared Oliva leads the team in runs, hits, triples, stolen bases, total bases and HBP.

Melvin Hernandez gets off to a solid start with 2 Ks sandwiching a groundout in the 1st.

Time for Made, Payne, Adamczewski & Co.

After retiring the first 6 Pelicans in order, Myrtle Beach gets a run across with a double and an Adamczewski error in the 3rd inning, then 2 more runs on 2 more doubles. Down 3-0, with 1 run earned.

Carolina has one single (Adamczewski) and one walk (Nadal), but no runs yet.

Biloxi strong out of the gate with an Adams double, Pratt single, Wilken double, Warren sac fly and Rodriguez single shaking out to three runs in the first.

Walther single, Made single (caught stealing), Payne walk (stolen base), and Adamczewski sac fly gets Carolina a run bottom of three.

Was hoping for more! Made CS and Bitonti 2nd K limited us this time around.

Carlos Rodriguez singled, stole second and came around to score on a Garrett Cooper single.

Those guys ain’t Brewers anymore though so Nashville trails 1-0 middle two.

Ray Delgado and Adam Hall are unable to keep yesterday’s magic going early, both striking out swinging to strand Clarke (single) and Seigler (double) in the 2nd inning.

At least Delgado’s AB featured 4 foul balls.

Melvin Hernandez works around a leadoff single and one out double by getting a pair of groundouts to secure the zero top of four.

Melvin hit the first batter in the fifth, then got a 5-4-3 double play before giving up a triple to the third man up.

At a season high 75 pitches Jack Seppings is on to try for the strand.

The Timber Rattlers race out to a 4-0 first inning lead, though I’m not sure there were any hard hit balls. Two walks, 3 ground ball singles and an error did the trick! Let’s credit Hedbert Perez with starting things off with a leadoff walk.

Two infield singles and a 7-pitch walk pushed Letson in the 2nd inning.

He went 2-0 to the next batter, but ultimate struck him out swinging to escape. 4-0 Timber Rattlers lead.

Letson was cruising with 4 straight K’s. Then a two out infield single, infield single, and walk to load the bases. Bases loaded K to the end the inning.

Alexander Cornielle is really working on another level in the early season. The first hit he concedes is a double to lead off the 3rd inning, but he answers with a ground out and 2 Ks to strand the runner.

3-1 Shuckers lead. Two errors gifted Columbus a run earlier.

Nathan Wiles is more than matching Logan Henderson pitch for pitch. Together, they’ve 14 Ks (9 for Wiles) and zero walks in the 5th inning.

Sounds trail 1-0, as old friend Carlos D. Rodriguez singled, stole a base and scored in the 1st inning.

Nearly saved by rain.

Down 3-1 in the 6th inning, Bryan Rivera entered in relief, allowing a first pitch double and walk before a rain delay paused action.

After they resumed, Rivera got a K, fly out and ground ball to nearly escape. But the grounder to first was actually an RBI single.

Down 4-1 now, Carolina has 4 more cracks (innings) at this.

Monasterio doubled, stole third, and scored on a two run Oliver Dunn home run.

Now Wes Clarke has gone back to back to make it 3–1 Nashville top of six.

Monasterio rips a 1-out double off Wiles and steals 3rd base, but it looks like his effort may go for naught as Oliva K’s for the 3rd time in 3 tries.

But have no fear! Oliver Dunn comes through with a 2-run hoommmeeerr, 109.6mph off the bat. It’s 2-1 Sounds. And Wes Clarke follows with a solo shot! 3-1! Go Nashville!!

3 singles and 2 walks for Carolina produce just 1 run in the 6th inning, due in part to their second untimely caught stealing (Made earlier; Payne now).

But both teams have had their fair share of opportunities. Myrtle Beach leads 4-2.
