John Holobetz on for the third and goes three up, three down, two strikeouts.

Fourth wasn’t quite so smooth for Holobetz as a base on balls then an all four bases on one swing has Carolina down 3-1.

Zona Crew holds on to win 7-6 in their first game action of the year.

In addition to the aforementioned Juan Ortuno grand slam it looks like offensive highlights included doubles from Jorge Quintana and Engel Paulino, plus a two hit one walk game from Mike Boeve.

DL Hall worked around a pair of walks while striking out three over two scoreless frames.

I’m encouraged by our lack of errors, only K’ing 7 times and the fact that all 6 opponent runs were scored when we asked for additional inning(s) from Tanner Shears (last official game Sep 2023) and 18-year old LHP Enderson Mercado (first stateside game).

I’m not encouraged by only earning 3 non-Boeve hits, but the good news is they all went for extra bases. I’m surprised that 19-year old RHP Argenis Aparicio (stateside debut) only faced 3 hitters.

Zero runs and 15 Ks for Wisconsin hitters. The last 11 were retired in order as they lost 1-0.

That seems unfair to Hardin and Root.

They fall to 10-16 and need a win tomorrow to salvage a 3-3 series split.

Kuehner went all-in on 3 true outcomes in the 1st inning, to the detriment of himself and Biloxi: K, K, BB, BB, 3-run homer.

The offense will need to step up.

Misiorowski didn’t register any 1st inning punch outs and only hit 97.1mph on the radar gun, but managed to strand baserunners at 2nd and 3rd (reached via walk, single).

Nashville’s bench is lean: EMJ (last played April 22), Freddy Zamora (played once in last 5 games), Kahle (3rd string catcher).

For Biloxi, INF Ethan Murray started today after being absent from the lineup for the past 4 games, so they appear to have 11 healthy position players plus a rostered bullpen catcher.

Le Mis went 3-up, 3-down in the 2nd inning, getting 2 Ks and peaking at 99.4mph. That’s what we expect to see.

Luis Pena singled, stole 2nd and scored on a wild pitch to cut the deficit to 3-2 in the 6th inning.

Reece Walling reaches on an infield error to lead off the bottom of the 7th inning. Lameda, T-Rod and Walther due up.

Three walks and a Jared Oliva single give Nashville a 1-0 lead in the 3rd inning, but Gwinnett got the run back via a walk, single and sac fly. 1-1 thru 3 innings.

Holobetz goes a whopping 92 pitches over 5.1 innings of relief (2 R) for Carolina. I can’t imagine he’ll be in Low-A much longer.

LHP Bjorn Johnson enters with 1-on, 1-out in the top of the 8th inning. Carolina trails 3-2.

After his rough inning early on I didn't think he had a chance of going more than 3 innings of relief. Solid recovery.

Now that offense needs to come to life late - let's be relentless tonight.

Otherwise - that was some HR by Wilken, not crushed, but just attacked the pitch (which was good to see) and it was a liner over the fence. Good job Brock.

Luis Pena walks and steals 2 bases in the bottom of the 8th inning, but is stranded (Payne K, Di Turi pop out). Carolina still trails 3-2.

Nadal, Walling and Lameda will need to come thru in the bottom of the 9th, after Bjorn locks down the top half.

Biloxi settling in after a rough start. Shuckers are outhitting the Clingstones 4-2, but runs are 4-1. And Clingstones have drawn 5 BB, while the Shuckers surprisingly none.

Mudcats had a chance and the tying run moved up to 90 feet away, but nothing happening. Still down 3-2 on to the 9th. I guess there can be some 9th inning magic I hope, right?

Andruw Monasterio battles thru 8 pitches for a leadoff 5th inning double and steals 3rd base, but is left stranded after Ks by Oliva, Dunn and Clarke. Still 1-1 Nashville at Gwinnett.

Nadal walks on 4 pitches. The pitcher goes 2-0 on Walling, and mound visit, next pitch a ball. Full count and Walling has a single to RF and then an error on the throw in to the IF, and Nadal scores and Walling awarded 3rd base. No outs, tie game and winning run 90 feet away. Let's go Mudcats!

And a grounder off the first basement then the throw goes home and the runner is SAFE!

4-3 Mudcats! Nice win. Great comeback, and what an effort by Holobetz.

Now for the other affiliates to get a magical inning or two.

At least the minor league clubs are looking up at the moment.

Chris Edwards calls them the "Cardiac 'Cats", we call them relentless. Either way that Carolina Mudcat team is something special with a stacked line up, solid pitching, and a never say die approach late. Let's enjoy them while we can. And then enjoy them on TRats/Shuckers in the future

Misio comes back out for the sixth and works around a single and walk to put up another zero.

Probably done for the day after 92 pitches (55 strikes).

Not the prettiest or most efficient stat line for Mis (compared to a couple of his last few outings), but if he is done (which I would suspect) he went 6 IP, worked through some traffic and got 5K (and 4BB, 5H) on 92 pitches and his last one was 98.4 mph per GameDay, so he had the velocity late.

Offense showing some signs of life.

Lara with a hit, then a SB, Adams hit a liner right over Lara's head, so runners at the corners and Pratt joins the hit parade and it's now 5-2

Wilken is up. Let's see if the offense can get some crooked numbers this inning.

Wilken trying to tying it up on that swing. Oh my.

Tyler Jay (4-3, K, BB), and Easton McGee (L8, 5-3, BB, L9, K) have combined for two scoreless frames.

Still 2-1 Sounds with Seigler, Delgado, Hall due up top nine trying to tack on.

And Wilken walks. It's a pitching change for Columbus. Bases loaded and no out, and 5-2 Clingstones lead. Shuckers showing life, more than the big Brewers have in the past couple of weeks sheeesh.

Meanwhile Tyler Jay (the Shane Smith 40 man position occupier) and Eason McGee give 2 hitless innings Sounds cling to a 2-1 lead heading to the 9th.

Back to Columbus and Warren walks! It's 5-3 Shuckers.  And Rodriguez delivers the hit. Love the comeback in them it's now 5-4 game, bases still juiced and still no out!! That is life. Love it. Mudcats. Trats are improving and SHuckers showing more life than last year.

OK wildest sac fly I've seen.

A line drive to RF and the RF slides to catch it with an incredilbe diving play to make the out and save extra bases. Then on the throw in it gets away, Wilken scores to tie it. So an out, a run in, and 5-5 game. Heck yeah!
