The 29 Brewers Farmhands Set to Become Minor League Free Agents in October (unless...)

We are back up to 33 minor league free agents to be as of 07/17, and the initial post in this thread reflects this.

OF Drew Avans - Avans, 29, was added to this list when he was outrighted to AAA Nashville on 7/18.

C
Andrick Nava - Nava was acquired for cash from the Phillies on July 18th, to help shore up catcher depth in the middle levels of the system. He turns 24 in October.

Removed this from the initial post in this thread based on Duvall's recent release -

C Ty Duvall - Yet to appear in an actual game, Duvall has spent 2025 on the Development List, and we believe is primarily acting as Nashville's bullpen catcher. He'll turn 28 in July.

Catcher Eric Haase was added to the initial post in this thread after his outright assignment to Nashville post-DFA. Haase would have forfeited his MLB salary had he not accepted the assignment.

This has been added to the initial post in this thread.

RHP Austin Roberts - Reliever acquired from Miami on 8/4 to supplement Biloxi's bullpen

For the moment (likely a brief moment), Bobby Dalbec remains within that post until an official transaction removal is logged.

As I said in another place, possible deadline deals might well include the likes of Arenaimo and Cornielle because of the 40-man considerations, much as the Nick Mears deal included Yujanyer last year.

Lucky guess by me, it seems.

The following has been added to the initial post in this thread -

LHP Raul Alcantara - The longtime Mariners farmhand was signed as a minor league free agent on August 7th and assigned to Biloxi. Alcantara had been released by the Orioles a few days prior.

The following has been added to the initial post in this thread -

RHP Travis MacGregor - Signed as a minor league free agent on 8/9 after his 7/29 release by the Rangers, assigned to Biloxi.

After his release on 8/12 (good luck in all future endeavors, baseball and otherwise), this was removed from the initial post in this thread:

OF Yhoswar Garcia - Another youthful player, the speedster who was dropped by the Phillies during spring training 2024, will turn 24 in September. All of his triple-slash figures have dropped precipitously with Wisconsin this season, after Garcia was very solid overall with Carolina last year.

Just looking at the stats recently,. I think Crow is still close to a lock of being added to the 40 man roster.  Yeager has an outside shot as well as Eduardo Garcia and Stallings. Though I don't think the Brewers will have more than 2 or 3 open spots on the 40.

Its been a disappointing summer for Ernesto.  Its hard to imagine he will be back, unless he re-ups on a minor league contract again.

NF Raynel Delgado - Only 25 years old, the Cuban native had exhausted his years of control with the Guardians when the Brewers signed him for the current season. He posted a .791 OPS at the AAA level in 2024, but that has dropped all the way to .617 with the Sounds.

Hold that thought. After his torrid start to this Home series vs the Bats, the OPS is back to 0.711 and the BA is up to 0.271. Starting to hit for power with plus 100 exit velos regularly in this stretch too. It's been wild! I honestly don't know what to make of it other than it's fun as heck to witness.

Removed this from the original post in the thread given Polancic's recent release:

RHP Jake Polancic - Another 27-year-old, Polancic, a former Diamondbacks prospect (11th round, 2016), was obtained from the independent league ranks in the offseason prior to the 2024 season, and saw action last year with 14 Timber Rattlers relief appearances through June 7th. He currently remains on the 60-day IL and the nature of his injury was not made public.

Also added Luis Urias to the list.

This is my first time looking at this list in awhile. I'm going to give my patented "Man, there's a lot of depth players on this list I really like." I am prepared for losing most of these players and I'll be sad when it happens.

Now on the 40-man roster, removed this text from the initial post:

LHP Bruce Zimmermann - The veteran is re-added here after re-signing with the Crew post his requested release.

RHP Abdiel Mendoza - The Panamanian native turns 27 in September. The Brewers took a flier on the minor league free agent out of the Blue Jays' system, but Mendoza has struggled mightily with the Shuckers (5.61 ERA, 1.71 WHIP).

He certainly struggled as a Starter, no doubt about it, but he didn't struggle all that much after his move and routines moved to the bullpen. He ended his season with a 4.09 ERA and 1.38 WHIP. The breadth of sample sizes is important in these complete analyses. You'll be hard pressed to find a better three month span in his June-through-August work. I think the Brewers are scratching the surface here and will look to bring him back.

He also appeared on the Top Stuff + performers across all of Minor League baseball when it came to his two-seamer/sinker profile (Minimum of 300 pitches):

Don't sleep on Mendoza.

Eric Haase, eligible to declare early, is removed from the initial post here.

Also removed is LHP Thomas Pannone, and there was an indication he signed a new minor league contract with Milwaukee.

This was written on June 30th and has been removed from the initial post in this thread, as Garcia has been signed to a new minor league deal, per Baseball America. Garcia turns 26 in February.

C David Garcia - Currently on the full-season injured list at Wisconsin, Garcia only received 19 at-bats before being sidelined. The 25-year-old longtime Texas Rangers farmhand has yet to reach the AA level.

It's a technicality, but due to his big-league service time and 2025 outright, OF Daz Cameron was able to elect minor league free agency after the season, as his status indicates on his MiLB Player Page. It never did appear as an official transaction. Unless we learn otherwise, the players on the list in the initial post (other than Coleman Crow, congrats) reach minor league free agency on Thursday the 6th.

Not a surprise if you have followed this thread all summer and fall. It seemed evident for quite some time Martinez would not be inked to a third consecutive one-year extension. As for Delgado, was hoping he’d be invited back (and that he’d agree).

As noted HERE (Minor League Transactions thread), Luis UríasJulian Merryweather, and Oliver Dunn have all elected Free Agency. It appears these men are taking their talents elsewhere - all the best, to a man, in their pursuits.

@Jim Goulart had noted the reported re-signings of LHP Thomas Pannone and C David Garcia above.

Per the transaction thread, most of the others have elected free agency, although 1-2 may still re-sign.

I believe the last 7 we're waiting for any status update on are:

  • RHP JB Bukauskas
  • RHP Garrett Stallings
  • C Darrien Miller
  • INF/OF Eduardo Garcia
  • C Ramon Rodriguez
  • RHP Edwin Jimenez (who's playing in the Arizona Fall League, which one might think is a good sign of likely re-upping with the Brewers)
  • C Andrick Nava

With the news that Stallings, Miller, Garcia and Rodriguez are back with the Crew for 2026, I think we can very safely assume that Jimenez is as well, that seems evident from his AFL placement.

Another assumption would be that Bukauskas signed for 2026 upon the Brewers initiating his full-season rehab back in March. That would be nice news.

Eventually we'll learn the status of Nava, the longtime Philly farmhand who played in 19 games for the Timber Rattlers after his July 17th "really need a backstop" acquisition for cash on July 17th.

I'm going to "unpin" this thread from the top of this forum, but we can use it to announce when these 2025 contributors sign elsewhere, as many will.
