The AAA Sounds play a doubleheader at Scranton/Wilkes-Barre tonight, with RHP Chad Patrick (3.50 ERA, 1.27 WHIP, 9.3 K/9 in 110.2 MLB/AAA IP) aiming for a long start and Win in the opening 7-inning game. Free-swinging C Jorge Alfaro has a .943 OPS over his last 75 PAs, with 1 BB and 27 Ks.

Carlos Done went yard again today. 5 long balls on his season now. Nice to see the mini power surge over the past month. DSL Brewers Blue earned 12 BB in a 14-3 victory.

17-year-old Nicaraguan Diustin Mayorquin continues to make a stateside case with his 4.0 IP of 0 H, 0 BB, 4 K work picking up the Save in the process. Mayorquin truly has been impressive for a 17-year-old first year hurler. That was his first SVO and he already possesses a 2-1 record in 4 GS and 41 2/3 IP total. 42 K and a 1.10 WHIP with a 2.59 ERA? Just solid solid work.

2-for-15 with RISP didn't prevent the DSL Brewers Gold from pulling out a 5-3 victory. OF Kenny Fenelon went yard for his third Johnson in a 1-for-5, 1 R, 2 RBI performance. Lead-off 2B, Juan Martinez, dazzled again with a 3-for-4, 1 R, 1 BB, 1 SB day pushing his season BA to 0.324 with a 0.991 OPS in 169 PA's. He is improving in every category since last season - across the board, really - and will likely be in the Complex by next summer (if not sooner).

2-0 on the island, nice start and a reprieve from the past two days where there were only 2 wins across the organization (both yesterday).

Now that the DSL has been in swing for a while, I am seeing that Juan Martinez and Johnathan Rangel are the best offensive performers along with Moises Polanco.  Solid seasons and stats for all three.  Martinez really struggled out of the gate in his second season, but has been on a heater in July.  Johanderson Tarazona and Kegnnalex Seijias, both catchers I think.

Pitching wise I have been pleasantly impressed with Diustin Mayorquin, as well as Joan Pena who has received some notice here. But Mayorquin has good numbers and overall peripherals for an also-17-year-old pitcher. Nice finds in Pena and Mayorquin.

AA Biloxi has been outscored 14-3 in 12 innings since Zavier Warren exited early on Wednesday night, but at least C Matt Wood is back after HE exited early on Tuesday. LHP Nate Peterson (3.88 ERA, 1.53 WHIP, 7.6 K/9 in 55.2 IP) gets tonight’s start and Darrien Miller (.189 AVG / 378 OBP / .330 SLG) gets a turn at first base, as we try to even the series at Pensacola.

C Kevin Garcia (.740 OPS in 142 ACL PAs with 10 BB / 50 Ks) turned 18 years old 12 days ago and now makes his full season affiliate debut for Low-A Carolina, which needs RHP Bryce Meccage (4.14 ERA, 1.23 WHIP, 8.8 K/9 in 67.1 IP) to be at his best to tie their series at Augusta.

High-A Wisconsin van grab a 3-1 home series lead over Lake County with a victory tonight behind RHP Tanner Gillis (1.99 ERA, 1.14 WHIP, 6.9 K/9 in 58.2 High-A/Low-A IP). DH Blake Burke (.292 AVG / .384 OBP / .408 SLG) delivered the walk-off hit yesterday.

Jeez, I went for a run (moreso a “hobble”) and Nashville already dropped the first game: 23 batters, 2 singles (Daz, Dunn) 1 HBP (Daz), 1 CS (Daz), 10 Ks.

Chad Patrick only allowed 1 earned run in 5.2 innings, but takes the Loss. The last 9 Sounds went down in order.

Better turn things around in the night cap.

For Game 2 of their doubleheader at Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, RHP Tobias Myers (3.32 ERA, 1.34 WHIP, 8.1 K/9 in 81.1 AAA/MLB IP) gets the start, while Jimmy Herron and Nick Kahle join the lineup. Nashville trails the series 2 games to 1.

2 hits (Anderson, Di Turi) and a walk for Carolina in the 1st inning. No runs. T-Rod grounded into a double play.

1 hit (Lara), a walk and a stolen base for Biloxi in their 1st inning. No runs as well.

C’mon guys! Sorry the promotion wheel didn’t turn as expected. I know you’re tired in Biloxi (depleted roster) and nervous at the other levels (draftees and non-draftees coming soon), but let’s get rocking!

Kevin Garcia delivers a 2-out RBI single in his first Low-A plate appearance, scoring Gery Holguin (walked) for a 1-0 Mudcats’ lead.

And then Josh Adamczewski triples him home! 2-0 Carolina.

Bryce Meccage is out after just 2 innings and 37 pitches. Carolina conceded 3 runs on 3 hits, 1 BB and 1 HBP in the 2nd inning.

Down 3-2 and Bjorn Johnson is in.

Oh boy. On the 12th pitch of his at-bat, old friend Jake Gatewood (playing SS?!) smacks a 3-run homer off Tobias Myers and the Sounds trail 4-1 early. Whoops.

Thank God for bunting. Augusta wasted a 2-on, nobody out opportunity by popping up a bunt to Bjorn Johnson, then grounding into a double play.

Augusta 3, Carolina 2. To the 4th inning they go.

Great the organizational losses look like they will be mounting again.  😟

All teams in the minors are down, and only the Mudacts have more than 1 run (2 to be exact) - obviously not counting the winning DSL squads.

Nate Peterson did well on a season-high 75 pitches for Biloxi: 4.2 IP, 1 R.

Shuckers still trail 1-0. Boeve, Pratt and Wood due up in the 6th.

Bjorn Johnson navigated traffic for 3 innings before the wildness overcame him in the 6th inning (HBP, 2 BB, 2 WP). Bryan Rivera was called upon with the bases loaded and 1 out, then allowed the first 3 batters he faced to do damage.

The 5-run frame puts Carolina down 8-2. Let’s thank Augusta for getting greedy with a caught stealing.

But the grind continues: Kevin Garcia double, Josh Adamczewski homer. 8-4 in the 7th inning.

Ah. A big chance came and went for Biloxi in the top of the 7th inning.

Miller doubled and Spain singled to chase the Pensacola starter with 1 out, but Jheremy Vargas hits into a GIDP.

Biloxi still trails 1-0. Manfredi’s been rock solid in relied (2.1 IP, 0 R, 4 Ks).

Gotta be a pretty low feeling to be a DH and go 0-for-4 with 4 Ks. But that’s out Mike Boeve tonight.

Pratt, Wood and Murray get our last chance in the 9th.

The Shuckers have just run out of gas. Man that team was humming in late April through early June winning the division.  Then injuries mounted, but they kept winning.  Now it’s just not the same. They lost 2 of their better pitchers (Crow to promotion and later injury; Hardin injured) and it’s really Kuehner as Wichrowski is so uneven, and Cornielle is inefficient with pitch counts.  Hunt looked good for a few starts but overall his season has been a let down.  Offensively they lost EBJ early, and then Adams/Wilken, and lost Rodriguez which was a big blow as he did hit and was a very good defensive catcher. Now Warren missing,  Pratt is in a big slump.  It’s Lara and Murray seemingly and occasionally Miller or Wood chipping in.  Boeve is a shell of what he looked like in ‘23 and ‘24 when healthy.

Yup. Really thought we’d bump up Areinamo, Burke and Eduardo.

But oh well. They made the playoffs and will hopefully get Wilken and Adams back before that. Hunt has been solid the last 2 outings. Kuehner gets a mulligan for the first base nightmare throwing him off kilter yesterday. Manfredi’s terrific.
