Fri. 8/1 - Two DSL Wins Early; Will Others Follow Suit? (Sounds Play Two)

Josh Adamczewski’s 3 RBIs and Kevin Garcia’s 3-hit Low-A debut were not nearly enough.

Mudcats fall 12-4 and into a 1-3 series hole. Hopefully Made and Pena re-join the lineup tomorrow.

Tobias! Yikes. Not what we're after given his recent run of really nice work. Let's just hope this is a fart in the wind.

Another brutal night for the full season clubs. Not a good week overall.

Kinda disappointing season down on the farm.

I wouldn't say so. It's an up and down ML season. The injuries are the biggest downer for all of us and especially the players. The Mudcats were absolutely electric that first month. They were the talk of Minor League baseball. The Shuckers won their first half Title in electric fashion. Even the T-Rats made a late first half charge. And, the Sounds have very very adequately served as the Brewers IL Taxi Squad - filling the gaps more than adequately when the Big Club needed reserves. The injuries have been devastating. We have missed a lot of innings from Blue Chip players.. I think it's important to remember the new delicate dance of a stateside 165 active players roster crunch. It is a significant difference and it really adds an entirely new overlay of challenge for all ball clubs.

Injuries have certainly been the big downer with the 2025 DSL Class probably coming in second, but the injuries have taken a toll. 9 of my Top 16 prospects are currently on the IL and of my Top 35 prospects (40 FV and better), we have at least 1 pitcher and position player injured at every full season level.

Biloxi not playing as well with the two best Southern League hitters on the IL shouldn't be surprising for anyone. Their previous best pitcher was promoted to AAA, their current best pitcher is injured. Boeve has been a shell of himself post shoulder surgery.

Wisconsin's best position player prospect is injured and second best was just traded and Wisconsin has arguably been the most impacted by system pitching injuries. Letson and Rodriguez have spent big chunks of the season on the IL. Knoth, Galindez, Woodward all likely would have pitched for Wisconsin this year and all haven't pitched this season.

Ignoring injuries which nobody can control, I still think there's been far more good than bad in the system this year.

In terms of injuries, yes this has been a very disappointing season.  There have been some subpar performances over the course of the year for sure but the injuries have been devastating.  Tons of missed games from many of our top 30 prospects.  In terms of performance, my two biggest disappointments have been Pratt and Boeve but Pratt is still very young and Boeve again has dealt with injuries so hopefully they can end the year strong and carry that into 2026.

Agree with @wiguy94and @Joseph Zarr. Injuries have been a huge factor - I posted in another thread of the top prospects currently on the shelf (Adams, Dinges, Wilken, Payne, Crow, Letson, Knoth just to name a few top 20ish prospects). Then those who lost the whole year like Woodward and Dylan O’Rae. Even Eric Brown Jr and Jack Hostetler only had a brief appearance.  And that doesn’t even include Adamczewski who missed a chunk, or missed time by Made, Peña and Wichrowski early on.  And we traded some prospects - Yophery the biggest name, but John Holobetz was a high draft pick, and recently Areinamo

‘The other factors - no break out performance from a ‘24 draft pick (although Dinges and Hardin were well on their way to do that). And average to less-than-average DSL season after the exceptional year last year.

in 2023 we had Chourio, Miz and Quero establish themselves as elite players. And the 2023 draft was a zig and it was fascinating to see the team sign so many to use all bonus pool money.  That August was the last time we had post-draft Complex baseball and that “23 ACL team was electric.

In 2024 we had Peña, Made and Anderson put on a show in DSL, and watched KC Hunt and Yoho emerge seemingly out of nowhere. And somehow the struggling Shuckers made the post season as did the TRats, and the Muddies?

This year we had Muddies in April and Shuckers in May. Just hasn’t had the same standouts in July. So maybe August will give us some memories.

Couldn't agree with you more @biedergbon all of your points and I think you hit the nail on the head - there haven't been many breakout performances in 2025 and the ones that we did get were interrupted by injuries (Dinges, Adamczewski, etc).

We also have the youngest team in almost every league, with Carolina on average being around 3-4 years younger than their opponents on any given night.

Carolina also has an entirely new rotation in the last month without even accounting for this years draft.

Good points

And the most exciting development has been the promotions of Tobias, Dorchies, Dubanewicz and Renz. Although that got tempered a bit with Dubanewicz injury last weekend. But seeing them succeed and seeing Hardin's early season success and Travis Smith recent bump up to high A has me excited to see what the organization can do with so many young pitchers added in this years draft (Cairone, Morrison, Flores, Vucinovich, Roupe, Bentley and Holden).

The challenge with pitchers is that there will always be a group of them on the shelf for nagging or serious injuries, so the bigger the pool, the better the odds.  I reminded myself of the journey that Logan Henderson took - he didn't pitch in his draft year, and only had 13 innings in 2022, then 80 innings as a 21 year old in low A in 2023. But the past two seasons saw him vault up from possible prospect to likely starter #4/5 for next season.  So patient young grasshopper I had to tell myself with these pitchers, as we will need to see where they are in 2-4 years to judge the '23-'25 draftees.
