After 10 games at Southern Mississippi and 7 games in the independent Frontier League, 23-year old RHP Michael Fowler is making his affiliated baseball debut, with Carolina leading 3-1 in the top of the 8th inning.

Gasser with 3 scoreless innings for Nashville. 42 pitches, 4K

Easton McGee and holding them scoreless- which shows you the gap from AAA to the bigs.

Garret Hodges closes it out for Carolina.  Nice job, 3-1 win.

I will go back to watch Mercado and Tobias innings. Adamczewski and Tyler Rodriguez with 2 hits each, and Bitonti and Holguin with doubles.

Austin Roberts. strikes out first two batters he faces, the second one with a beautiful pitch on the outer strike zone.

Next batter singles to left.

Easton McGee gives up a run. Tie game 1-1

who got the rbi single you ask?  Well it would be one Joey Wiemer.  What are the odds?🙄

Well dang. Restituyo singles.  Lara flies out to deep RF and Restituyo goes to 2nd.

Restituyo steals third and Pratt Ks.

Then Burke grounds out. Dang - great chance for insurance runs.

2-1 Shuckers going to bottom of 7th.

Eduardo Garcia with a great play up the middle at SS. Gets out #2.

Next batter flies out to left center. Peek closes it out. Shuckers win. Love beating any Cubs team!

Good wins T-Rats and Shuckers - Shuckers salvage a plot winning the night cap.

Nail biter in Nashville

And DSL boys win both

T-Rats still being no-hit

Stepping out. Will check in later.

Quick check before leaving (waiting on my uber) and Peña gets a hit - a double and no hitter is over. New pitcher in for Peoria to face Made. Let’s go T-Rats

EDiT - well Peña thrown out at third apparently- dang it. Made still up but no one on. At least the no hitter is over right?

You want to see a prime example of Bitonti back into one of his swing funks? 0-1 count. Men on 2nd and 3rd. Two down. Off-speed belt high dead center. Very very hittable pitch. He sees it. Swings under it and flares a pop fly out to 3B foul territory. This is what he was doing swing-wise early in the year when he was in an even more pronounced slump. Tough sledding in an up-and-down year for the slugging first baseman. Anyhow, that ended the 7th inning. On to Fowler.

Fowler:

First Batter: First pitch sneaks in a gorgeous breaker on the outer black. Fantastic sneak one first pitch.  Second pitch we get the ML view of the hitters arse. Very nice. Ball 1. Third pitch heater pulls glove side low and outside. Ball 2.He has a very very good breaking ball. Misses center low into the dirt - gets no chase. Ball 3. Heater lands outer half. Hitter is late. Sharp ground out to Bitonti at first.

I'll say this right off the bat. He absolutely looks the part of an athlete. Good size. Good build. Composed. Good arm action. He and Bitonti wear the same chain, it appears. Bros being bros.

Second Batter: Knee-high heater on the outer black. Strike One looking. We are getting no velo readings - Edwards is not in the booth. Gets the chase on a beautiful elevating four-seamer up and in just above the zone. Zesty pitch! OK, velo reading: that tickled 94 mph on the gun. 0-2 count. Misses outside on another 94 mph heater. Gets the K swinging on an upper corner four-seamer. Another beautifully located pitch.

Third Batter: Another strike one on the upper corner outer black. Beautiful location. Looked four-seamer? Comes inside with a four-seamer and gets the foul into the seats down the 1B line. Gorgeous K looking on an Uncle Charlie. What an impresive outing.

We saw, by my eyes, solely four-seamer and curveball/breaking ball. BUT, very accurate outside a few pitches. Two consecutive three-pitch K's in the 8th inning of a 3-1 game? Momentum baby. Fantastic debut.

Boy, it wasn't for lack of insurance run opportunities in the 7th and 8th. Bitonti stranded runners on 2nd and 3rd in the 7th. Rodriguez poked a single liner up the middle with two down and Walling at 2B. Really solid OF Assist from Lynchburg's CF'er. Beautiful one hop accurate throw on the charging scoop. Nabbed Walling by three feet. Aggressive send but, hey, tip the cap to the CF'er.

I continue to love everything about RHP Garrett Hodges' season. Does he walk too many batters? Yes. 😅 43 K-to-27 BB on his season to date. BUT, he has three legitimate pitches as a late innings guy in his Heater, slider, and change-up. He tends to get a bit over-aggressive with his high-riding heater and missess too many pitches high or high and outside trying to get chase. He has to harness that in particular. But, his slider absolutely plays in on lefties. He sits 94-95 mph. The change-up, when he uses it, is definitely a pull-the-string type of pitch. He has the tools to keep advancing.

Oh, hey, Adamczewski is 2-for-3 again with a double. Who knew he could hit Low-A pitching?!

Of course, if Josh is indeed promoted before season's end - a promotion that is obviously deserved - that will gravely impact the Mudcats chances of reaching the post-season. The bats are pretty sleepy at present and have been for a spell.

Was great to see him play well tonight. Anyone see the guy in the cream jersey behind home 2nd row?
