DSL Gold was leading its July 28 game against DSL Orioles Orange 1-0 when a rain delay struck with 2 outs in the Orioles' half of the 5th inning. One more measly out on that day and they'd have likely been granted the Win.

Instead, they conceded a 4-run 8th inning today to drop that contest.

But at least 19-year old starting RHP Ruben Saldana now gets his gem officially on record: 4.2 IP, 0 R, 4 H, 3 BB, 1 HBP, 1 WP, 5 Ks.

RHP Fabian Reyes (2 IP, 1 R, 2 H, 0 BB, 1 WP, 5 Ks) was credited with a rather unfair blown save, having inherited the bases loaded with nobody out from RHP Enrique Velasquez (2.1 IP, 3 R, 3 H, 3 BB, 4 WP) in the 8th inning.

We've got a professional debut for 19-year old Chang Tzu-Chun Lin from Taiwan, as he started and pitched 1 inning for DSL Brewers Gold in their second game of the day: pop-out, fly out, walk, wild pitch, line out.

Really solid 7-1 win for DSL Brewers Blue over DSL Tampa Bay (31-17), grabbing a 2-1 lead by the 4th inning before pouring on 5 runs over the final 2 frames, all while 2-hitting the opposition.

17-year old RHP Steven Duran (5 IP, 0 R, 0 H, 1 BB, 1 HBP, 1 WP, 1 K; season ERA 3.43) was dominant in relief of terrific 17-year old starting RHP Diustin Mayorquin (3 IP, 1 R, 2 H, 1 BB, 1 HBP, 1 K; season ERA 2.62).

OF Frandy Lafond hit his first homer of 2025 (after 3 last season) in a 2-for-4 effort with a stolen base; a solo shot to the game 1-1 in the 3rd inning. 2B Moises Polanco went 3-for-4 with 2 doubles, 3 RBIs and a stolen base to lift his season OPS to .870. 3B Joan Gutierrez also had a 2-for-4, 2 RBI day, while 1B Jefer Lista went 1-for-3 with 2 walks and a stolen base.

AA Biloxi and Knoxville have resumed yesterday’s rain-delayed game tied 0-0 in the bottom of the 5th inning, with RHP Abdiel Mendoza entering for this frame.

After losing a late lead and the game in Game 1 against DSL Orioles Orange, DSL Brewers Gold flirted with a repeat in Game 2, falling behind 2-1 in the 5th inning of the 7-inning tilt.

Thankfully they rebounded with a 6-run 6th inning to grab a 7-2 victory. LF Eryks Rivero’s 2nd professional homer highlighted the rally, a 2-run homer to break a 2-2 tie.

RF Alexander Frias (3-for-3, walk, RBI, outfield assist) had a big day, while 17-year old LHP Joan Pena (5.1 IP, 2 R (1 ER), 0 BB, 1 HBP, 3 Ks) was excellent as usual.

Wowsers! Love this for Peters. Such an easy steady solid player to root for.

To freshen any cobwebs in any memories, Peters was traded from the T-Rats several years back to the SF Giants in the failed RHP Trevor Rosenthal acquisition. He was later traded to the Rays when the Giants acquired INF Brett Wisely amidst a classic Rays overloaded roster crunch. Story of perseverance baby!

Today, picking up this Shuckers  / Smokies continuation reminds me of how much I miss Luke Adams Brock Wilken in that line-up. Also, we haven't seen Zavi Warren since July 30th and, yet, he has no official IL designation. 0-0 as they head to the bottom of the 7th.

The Shuckers didn’t hesitate to give new signee 24-year old LHP Raul Alcantara some action (last pitched one week ago with AA Chesapeake).

Unfortunately, he didn’t hesitate to concede 2 runs on 2 singles and 2 walks.

Biloxi falls 2-0, stranding 8 baserunners vs. 3 for Knoxville. A Cooper Pratt caught stealing with 1st and 3rd, 1 out in the 6th inning was a big moment.

Burke walked and Spain singled in the 9th, but an Adam Hall K looking ended it.

7 scoreless innings from Tate Kuehner and Abdiel Mendoza went for naught. Darrien Miller subbed in for Boeve, going 1-for-1 with a walk. The Shuckers’ defense turned 3 double plays.

The Mudcats last played on Tuesday and have dropped 5 straight, but still lead their division by 1.5 games. LHP Enderson Mercado (4.92 ERA, 1.40 WHIP, 10.2 K/9 in 53 ACL/Low-A IP) makes his 3rd Low-A start. RF Handelfry Encarnacion has a 6-game hitting streak.

3B Zavier Warren returns(!) to play for the first time in 9 days. Down 2 games to 1 in this week’s series at Knoxville, the AA Shuckers have RHP Alexander Cornielle (3.65 ERA, 1.30 WHIP, 8.7 K/9 in 93.2 IP) ready to handle the 2nd game of today’s doubleheader.

What’s the latest on Andrew Fischer? Wasn’t he assigned to High A?

The latest news is 'No'. He has not been assigned. The most logical next news, imho, would be: he'll be assigned to the T-Rats for their next Home series.

Luis Pena gets his first start at shortstop at the High-A level, as Wisconsin aims to extend its series lead to 3-1 at Peoria. LHP Sam Garcia is still adjusting to this level (5.52 ERA after 2.08 ERA in Low-A), with 18 of 44 hits allowed going for extra bases.

Oh, hey, Adamczewski is 2-for-3 again with a double. Who knew he could hit Low-A pitching?!

Of course, if Josh is indeed promoted before season's end - a promotion that is obviously deserved - that will gravely impact the Mudcats chances of reaching the post-season. The bats are pretty sleepy at present and have been for a spell.
