The final Carolina Mudcats’ home game at Five County Stadium sees 18-year old RHP Carlos Carra (4.79 ERA, 1.23 WHIP, 9.6 K/9 in 41.1 ACL IP) make his Low-A debut as they try to salvage a 2-4 week against Delmarva. RF Jose Anderson has doubled in 3 consecutive games.

Somebody asked about the playoff tiebreaker in another thread and this is what I found. Regardless of today’s result, Carolina probably needs to go 5-2 at Fredericksburg next week:

“In the event of any ties, the following tiebreakers will apply in the order below:

1. Head-to-head record between the clubs in the respective half (if three or more Clubs, best winning percentage in games among the Clubs).

2. If the Clubs remain tied, best overall winning percentage over the last 20 games.

3. If the Clubs remain tied, best overall winning percentage over an additional game (i.e., the last 21 games, the last 22 games, etc.) until one emerges with a better winning percentage in that span of games.”

The High-A Wisconsin Timber Rattlers’ final home game of 2025 has them seeking a turnaround after losing 7 of 8 games. 20-year old RHP Manuel Rodriguez makes his 2nd start of the week against Quad Cities (4.2 IP, 3 R, 6 Ks in 96 pitches on Tuesday). 2B Jesus Made has a .968 OPS in 94 PAs since being promoted.

Yeah and with the way they are playing over the past month? This half looks like a replica fade alá the first half. Uncanny.

I have very little confidence things magically turn around but I certainly am hoping they do and will be rooting for that outcome! How about the young men start with a victory in the last ever regular season Home game at Five county Stadium. Showing some grit and pride for the Legacy of that org and ball park. 😬

Carra looking sharp his Carolina debut with 6 IP | 1 ER | 6 H | 0 BB | 5 K but Ebel (single, walk), Bitonti (single), Di Turi (two walks) and Anderson (HBP) has been it for the offense.

I think the late rebrand for the Mudcats offense might be...

'The Hush Puppies'

(Come on...trying a little reverse virtual psychology 😉)

AA Biloxi need a Sunday victory at Montgomery behind RHP KC Hunt (4.54 ERA, 1.26 WHIP, 9.1 K/9 in 107 IP) to avoid a 6-game sweep. 1B Blake Burke has a .982 OPS in 106 PAs since promotion.

Nicasia bomb puts Wisco up 2-0 after five.

Rodriguez gives it back top six with a triple, sac fly sequence. Then surrendered a two out double before bouncing back to K the final batter.

Through six with 72 pitches and 1 ER | 5 H | 0 BB | 6 K.

The Five County and Mudcats fans deserved a much better send off than this very likely last Home series played at Five County Stadium. The Hush Puppies close it out with another loss in a 1-0 Shutout. I can hear their mascot now "Woooooooooof!".

Sadly, 12 baserunners (4 singles, 5 walks, 1 HBP, 2 reached via error) wasn’t enough to produce any runs.

Solid pitching by Carra, Reyes, Nova and Fowler. The staff and fans deserved better than a 1-0 defeat.

Let’s hope for a 180-degree turnaround next week.

Had base runners in seven of the nine innings so plenty of opportunities, but 0 for 7 with RISP and 11 LOB is a not very convenient 7-Eleven.

Nope. Failures to execute in the clutch for the young Pups. It certainly happens. Just happening a little too much in a Stadium send off. It's also extremely hard for this line-up to do all that much with Bitonti and Di Turi swinging the bat like they are. That is overly relying on the very young and inexperienced Handelfry, Anderson and Ebel. I think Ragsdale is showing he can get on base quite well. Payne is swinging a decent bat but he is typically leading off or at the top of the order. The Run Producers aren't really producing.

Still Seven Games remaining to go for the improbable! Season isn't over yet! Encouraging pitching signs of late. We can lean into that.

Indeed. I feel you and I really feel for those long-tenured fans. Would be just incredible to give them a Home Playoff game.

AAA Nashville can be our sole minor league series winner this week with a Sunday home victory over Charlotte. RHP Garrett Stallings seeks a better outcome than his Tuesday start (2.2 IP, 6 R, 2 Ks). 3B Raynel Delgado is 17-for-29 with 6 extra-base hits, 6 walks and 7 SB over his last 9 games.

I had a nagging feeling when RHP Aaron Rund came aboard, walked his first batter and then threw a first pitch ball to the next it was likely not a good sign. His tailspin continues in 2025 as the 26-year-old Indy signing from 2024, unfirtunately, blows another one in his 1.0 1 H, 2 BB, 3 ER outing. He certainly hasn't had an ounce of luck lately but I think, given his age and experience, the Brewers are likely looking for more. T-Rate lose again 4-2.

Sooooooo many losses in this second half. Really a rough system-wide full-season affiliate kind of spiral. Grateful the Sounds are playing better of late and grateful the Shuckers are appearing to get healthy at the right time.

Shuckers are falling behind again.

Cooper Pratt with a 2-run double.  His August has been really really good. He is an even month player (April, June and August were all great; but his May and July splits were brutal).

Alcantara loads the bases, then HBP and now a walk. Still only 1 out, and bases still loaded. 🙄

7-2 Shuckers now trail.

I mean this month has been so difficult to watch for the affiliates.

Not a lot of offense, pitching has been actually pretty good, but bullpens have been so unpredictable and the defense and mental game has been off at times (also doesn't help having so many young players and some playing out of their natural positions)

Still.  Cruel Summer indeed
