A day after the trade deadline, the rumors of the Brewers' system's demise have been greatly exaggerated. In a season full of incredible moments, Biloxi found a new way to top themselves with an epic comeback. Braylon temporarily eased the Payne of trading Josiah Ragsdale with a milestone homer and a triple in Wisconsin's win. The other Brailyn mashed another home run at Wilson in their victory.

Sounds Suffer Largest Loss of Season to Memphis - Drew Rom extends his streak of not allowing an earned run to 14.2 innings

A day after their parent clubs completed a surprising trade of MLB arms for MiLB bats, Nashville and Memphis faced off at the AAA level with the Sounds enduring a 13-2 drubbing at the hands of the Redbirds.

This one was over early. Memphis jumped all over Sounds’ starter Tyson Hardin in the second inning, knocking the 2025 Brewers’ MiLB Pitcher of the Year from the game with an eight-run frame. Seven of the runs were charged to Hardin, who allowed eight hits, walked a man, and struck out three. Lyon Richardson came on and did not fare much better, allowing three runs on five hits and three walks in just 1.2 innings.

Offensively, the Sounds did manage to collect 10 hits, though nine of them were singles. Luis Matos was responsible for four of those hits, including a double, and he scored a run. Brock Wilken extended his on-base streak to thirteen games with a single and two walks. Tyler Black and Akil Baddoo each had two hits apiece, while Luke Adams took two more HBP and now leads the organization with 19 HBP on the season in just 61 games. Nashville falls to 59-50 with the loss and 16-18 in the second half. A playoff berth looks like a longshot, but hopefully the team can finish the stretch home with a winning record.

LHP Colton Gordon (6-5, 4.05 ERA) will make his fourth appearance in a Sounds’ uniform on Wednesday. Since coming over from the Houston organization, Gordon has allowed 12 runs (10 earned) in 16 innings.

Guerrero Reaches 1,500 Career Wins in Shuckers Comeback Win - Shuckers strike for eight runs over the final two innings, Dinges records first Double-A home run

Another night in the high-octane, hitter-friendly (😉) Southern League, and another improbable pulse-pounding victory for Biloxi. The Shuckers leaped off the mat in the final two innings to steal victory from the jaws of defeat, sending Columbus home dumbfounded with the 11-9 extra-inning victory.

The Shuckers struck first, with Jesus Made and Blake Burke singling in the opening frame. The pair then executed a double steal, with Made scoring on a throwing error to make it 1-0 Biloxi. Columbus immediately responded with a three-run first inning off of Shuckers’ starter Yorman Galindez (5IP 5H 4R 4ER 2BB 7K) to snatch the lead back.

Now trailing 3-1. Mark Coley II hit a two-run bomb to even the score, which you can check out here via the Shuckers’ X account:

The game remained tied until the 5^th, when Columbus took a one-run lead on a sac fly. Then in the 7^th inning, Columbus seemingly put the game away with a five run rally to make in 9-3.

Southern League viewers should know by now that no lead is safe versus this Biloxi lineup. It was 9-3 going to the 9^th. Marco Dinges flied out to start the frame and then Made walked. Then the floodgates busted open in an epic six-run rally that unfolded in under 10 minutes real time. Burke singled on the first pitch he saw. Andrew Fischer did the same and roped a single to plate Made. Josh Adamczewski hammered the second pitch he saw to score Burke. With the Columbus’ pitcher’s head spinning, Mike Boeve drew a walk to load the bases and improbably brought the tying run to the plate. Matthew Wood then legged out a would-be GIDP to give Coley II a chance to tie the game. That’s exactly what Coley II did, launching his second home run into the night air on the second pitch he saw:

Columbus was crestfallen. 26 pitches, six runs, three singles, two walks and one clutch homer. However, Columbus did have a chance in the 9^th to play the Uno reverse card. What should have been a second consecutive 1-2-3 inning for Edwin Jimenez (2IP 2K 0H) turned into a little extra work after Made flubbed the throw on a routine ground ball with two out. Made committed two throwing errors on the night, part of four errors for Bilxoi. The next Clingstones’ hitter looped a shallow pop up into center, which looked destined to at least put the winning run 90 feet away, but Coley II raced in for a sensational diving catch to preserve the 9-9 tie and send the game to extras.

Dinges wasted no time activating hero mode, blasting the first pitch he saw for his first AA home run:

The Shuckers would go on to load the bases in the 10^th against a clearly taxed and bewildered bullpen that had to resort to a position player to record the final out.

Sam Garcia then emphatically slammed the door on the victory, working around the “ghost runner” and a walk with two strikeouts in a scoreless 10^th. The victory would not have been possible without the stellar work of Jimenez and Garcia over the final three innings.

After losing their leadoff man Josiah Ragsdale to a trade the previous day, the Shuckers’ offense did not miss a beat on this night. Made had three hits and two walks. Burke had four hits. Adamczewski ripped a pair of singles and drew a walk as well. The team did strike out a worrisome 13 times but managed to overcome that and steal the victory. Not to be downplayed, it was Mike Guerrero’s 1,500th career victory.

Biloxi is 55-44 on the season and 20-16 in the second half. RHP Jaron DeBerry (7-5, 4.48 ERA) will make his 5^th appearance versus Columbus this season when he takes the mound on Wednesday

Wisconsin Starts Long Road Trip on the Right Foot - Torres goes seven innings as Payne and Castillo homer to beat Beloit

Wisconsin pounded Beloit into submission, first jabbing away with some solo punches before dropping the Sky Carp with the knockout blow in the 9^th, winning 9-3.

Braylon Payne got the offense started with a triple in the first and then immediately scored on Daniel Dickinson’s single. After the Sky Carp briefly took the lead with a two-run rally in the second, Payne then launched a solo shot, his 22^nd of the year to tie the game:

I mentioned in this space last week that I think Payne has an outside shot at 30-30, he may yet prove me right at this rate!

The Sky Carp rallied back in their half of the 4^th, but then Luis Pena provided an immediate answer in the top of the 5^th with a triple into the gap to tie the game:

Pena, Payne and Dickinson each had two-hit days atop the Wisconsin order and combined for five runs and three RBI. Dickinson also stole four bases on the night to give him 39 on the year, second only to Dylan O'Rae (48) across the organization. As a team, every Rattler had at least one hit and six different players drove in a run.

It would remain a one run game until the 9^th, when the Rattlers broke it open with the decisive blow, a grand slam from Luis Castillo:

Not to be overshadowed by the tremendous day from the offense, Wande Torres had a strong effort on the mound. Torres notched seven innings pitched for the third time in the last month (second time versus Beloit) and did well to strike out eight with zero walks. That was a nice improvement after a 10:9 K:BB ratio in 7.2IP in his last two outings.

Daniel Corniel closed it out with two scoreless innings to earn his second save of the season.

The Rattlers improve to 54-44 with the win and 20-16 in the second half. They also narrow the gap to first-place Beloit in the second half standings to just 2.5 games. LHP J.D. Thompson (0-1, 3.96 ERA) will look to draw Wisconsin a game closer when he leads the team on the mound Wednesday night.

Warbirds Use Long Ball to Defeat Howlers - Relentless Renz Earns Save

A day after trading away two starters, Wilson secured a gritty 6-3 victory over Hill City on Tuesday night, powered by a mid-game offensive explosion and clutch pitching. Wilson found themselves in an early 2-0 hole following a two-run homer by the Howlers in the bottom of the third. However, the Warbirds' bats woke up in a big way in the fifth inning. Rylan Mills and José Anderson sparked the comeback by crushing back-to-back solo home runs, tying the game at 2-2.

The power display continued in the top of the sixth when Brailyn Antunez launched a solo shot of his own to left field, giving the Warbirds a 3-2 lead they would never relinquish.

Antunez may make Brewers’ fans say “Alexander Frias, who?” if he keeps up at this pace. Antunez already has three home runs and 10 RBI in just seven games at Wilson. He’s also dialed back his strikeout rate (from 31.3% in ACL play to 18.5% at Low A) in the small sample, with as many strikeouts (five) as walks at the level.

Wilson’s offense then provided crucial insurance in a huge seventh inning. Following three consecutive walks that loaded the bases, Handelfry Encarnacion made the Howlers pay when he ripped a clutch, two-run double off the wall, scoring Anderson and Pedro Ibarguen. Brady Ebel immediately followed with an RBI groundout to bring home Frederi Montero, capping off a three-run frame and extending the lead to 6-2.

On the mound, starter Diustin Mayorquin (5IP 3H 2R 2ER 3BB 1K) bounced back from the third-inning blemish to earn the win. It was the first time Mayorquin allowed multiple runs through his first four outings at Wilson, though he still sports a 1.59 ERA at the level. From there, Tyler Renz (4IP 4H 1R 1ER 0BB 1K) stepped up in relief and ultimately secured his first save of the year, slamming the door on a brief Howlers rally in the late innings to cement a well-earned win for Wilson.

Wilson is now 53-47 on the season and 17-17 in the second half, two games back of first place. RHP Carlos Carra (3-8, 5.59 ERA) will take the mound on Wednesday.

DSL Brewers Blue 5, DSL CLE Mendoza 4

The Brewers Blue pulled off a thrilling 5-4 walk-off victory over DSL CLE Mendoza on Tuesday. The Brewers started strong thanks in part to a dominant performance from starter Luis Aguayo. Aguayo carved up the Cleveland lineup, striking out nine batters over five impressive innings while allowing just two hits and a single run on a home run. The 18-year-old Aguayo has really stood out since the calendar flipped to July, with just two earned runs allowed in his last 21 IP with a 19:3 K:BB rate.

The Brewers offense provided early support in the second inning when Angel Gonzalez poked an RBI single to score Leanders Matos, and then a fielding error produced another run to make it 2-0 Blue. CLE Medoza responded with a solo homer in the 4^th, and the game remained 2-1 Brewers until the final innings.

In the top of the eighth inning the Brewers' bullpen finally faltered. Reliever Yancarlos Vasquez, who had initially kept Cleveland quiet, ran into trouble after issuing a pair of walks and a balk. CLE Mendoza took advantage, launching a crushing three-run homer to right field to give CLE Mendoza a late 4-2 lead. It was a tough blow, but Lonell Downs came out of the bullpen to stabilize the game, pitching 1.1 scoreless innings to keep the Brewers within striking distance heading into the final frame.

In the ninth inning the Brewers rallied with some plate discipline. The comeback began with a pair of walks and then a single from Enrique Lovera. With the bases loaded, Diego Frontado brought in a run with another walk. After a pitching change, Jose Rodriguez reached base on an error to tie the game. That set the table for Matos, who put the ball in play on a fielder’s choice to walk it off for the Brewers.

Matos was the only Brewer with multiple hits on the day. His OPS is up to 1.066, good for 8^th in the league.

The Brewers Blue move to 25-20 with the win.

DSL Pirates Black 6, DSL Brewers Gold 1, seven innings as scheduled

The Brewers Gold got on the board early, then the bats went away the rest of the day, on the way to a 6-1 defeat to DSL Pirates Black Tuesday.

In the first inning, leadoff man Ricki Moneys walked and then stole second base. On the day, Moneys drew three of the Brewers’ eight walks. Moises Salazar then singled, and then Josue Rodriguez knocked Moneys in with an RBI single to make it 1-0 Brewers. From that point on, the Brewers managed just one hit, a Romano Donato single, in the rest of the seven-inning contest.

Daniel Garcia started on the bump for the Brewers and took the loss despite working three innings with just two unearned runs allowed. Garcia worked around six hits and a walk thanks in part to four strikeouts, which matched his DSL-best from the same date in 2025. Garcia has allowed just one earned run in 11 DSL innings this year.

Joan Gonzalez took over for Garcia in the fourth. After working a scoreless fourth inning, the Pirates tacked on four runs over the final two innings to put the game out of reach.

The DSL Brewers Gold are now 26-18 on the season and still in first place in the DSL Central division.

Well folks, after some heated discussion around the trade deadline, the sun did rise on Tuesday. The Brewers' top 10 prospects are still intact, with many of the best prospects in the organization continuing to mash. All four full-season affiliates and both DSL squads have winning records. There are exciting teenagers emerging in the DSL and at the lower levels, giving the Brewers' the deepest system in baseball. We're living in a golden era of Brewers' baseball, so I hope the final month of MiLB can provide some optimism for everyone no matter how the season turns out. See ya next week!
