Bjorn Johnson has been so dialled since the start of August (maybe further, but I only went that far back)

I think he's been really difficult to pick up, getting a lot of called strikes, getting ahead a ton by the looks of things and then inducing some deadly chase. I believe he was a 23 or 24 11th round pick out of high school, and the recent results bear monitoring

19-year old RHP Ma’Kale Holden (8.12 ERA, 1.86 WHIP, 11.0 K/9 in 37.2 ACL innings) makes his Low-A debut as Wilson seek to snap their 7-game losing streak and even this week’s series at Fredericksburg. DH/C Rylan Mills has smacked 4 homers over his last 5 games.

While I think Bentley had a solid debut, I am still most intrigued by Holden from the 11-20 round HS signings.

Oof.  Not the best start for Holden, after 2 scoreless he gave up 7 runs (6 ER) in the 3rd. 3 BB and 3 K.  Will try to watch to see if it is a stuff or command issue.

Hopefully 1B/3B Frederi Montero can pull off a Cam Devanney, using his aggressive 2026 placement into Low-A ball (and understandable struggles) to come back and really impress next season.

Montero went 3-for-4 today with a homer, giving him 8 homers this season and an equivalent 8 total homers across his 3-season minor league career.

He's cut down on his strikeouts rather nicely down the stretch:

Through his first 361 PAs this year: 51 BB, 103 Ks.

Through his last 75 PAs this year: 16 BB, 10 Ks.

RHPs Carlos Espinal (1.1 IP, 0 R, 2 Ks) and Tyler Renz (4 IP, 1 R, 2 H. 0 BB, 2 Ks) were terrific for the Wilson bullpen, but the team dropped its 8th consecutive game, this time to Fredericksburg 8-3.

The season record now stands at 64-62 with 5 games remaining over 4 days. The teams will play a doubleheader on Thursday.

Warbirds Surrender Big Third Inning, Fall to Fredericksburg
Montero Notches Three Hits

FREDERICKSBURG, VA - The Wilson Warbirds allowed seven runs in the third inning, falling 8-3 to the Fredericksburg Nationals on Wednesday afternoon at Virginia Credit Union Stadium.

Wilson (64-62, 28-32 second half) got the offense going early, taking a 1-0 lead in the top of the second inning. Filippo Di Turi came home on a wild pitch by Noah Millikan (W, 3-2).

The Warbirds doubled the lead in the top of the third inning. A Brailyn Antunez groundout with Kevin Garcia on third provided the Warbirds with a 2-0 advantage.

The lead was short-lived, however, as Fredericksburg (76-51, 30-31 second half) ripped off seven runs in the bottom of the third. Nationals came into score on singles by Jordan Williams, Juan Cruz, Hunter Hines, and Sir Jamison Jones. Ma’Kale Holden (L, 0-1) sprinkled in a couple of walks as well to cut his Warbirds debut short.

A triple by Cruz in the seventh pushed the Fredericksburg lead to 8-2. 

Frederi Montero, who was 3-4 at the plate, capped off a great day by hitting a home run for Wilson in the top of the eighth, but the Warbirds could not muster any more offense, falling 8-3.

With the loss, Wilson has dropped eight consecutive games.

The Warbirds and Nationals play again tomorrow at 6:35 p.m. RHP Luke Roupe (1-1, 13.00) will make the start for the Warbirds against RHP Landon Harmon (1-1, 1.24).

Wisconsin Game Notes for September 2

AAA Nashville won yesterday’s home series opener against Louisville on a Tyler Black 2-out, 2-run walk-off double. Tonight, they welcome 2B Jonathan Ornelas for his Brewers’ minor league debut and send RHP Coleman Crow (2.45 ERA with 48 Ks in last 47.2 IP) out to start.

The AA Shuckers won a 1-run home nail-biter over Birmingham yesterday, during which Andrew Fischer blasted his minor league-leading 43rd homer. Tonight, RHP Manuel Rodriguez (4.76 ERA, 1.19 WHIP, 7.7 K/9 in 119 IP) gets the start. DH/INF Luis Pena (13-game on-base streak) is back in the starting lineup after being a late scratch yesterday.

20-year old RHP Miqueas Mercedes has been on a roll (0.89 ERA with 36 Ks in last 40.1 IP) and now makes his High-A debut for Wisconsin at Beloit. The squad won yesterday on CF Sawyer Strosnider’s late 2-run homer. Strosnider has a 7-game hitting streak.
