2026 World Series Thread: News/Notes/Predictions/Miscellaneous. What's on your mind?

Posted

First of all, the Milwaukee Brewers will be playing for a World Series title a week from today! Incredible. Indescribable. But it needs to be said over and over from now until then.

Second, as we await the outcome of the ALCS which hopefully goes to 7 games, early predictions on the first pitch for Games 1 and 2?

I'll start with Bud Selig in Game 1 and Robin Yount in Game 2......

I don't think Bud physically can but maybe a family member. He and Yount are good choices. My guess though is Bob Uecker Jr.

Certainly couldn't go wrong with Uecker Jr. either.

Now that I think of it I think the perfect Game 1 first pitch could be Yount and Selig going out to the mound together and Yount making the throw.

Then Uecker Jr. for the other game.

The thing that gives me the most confidence going into the World Series is actually the division series.

That Padres team was good. They had two good starters and a great bullpen. They had two superstars. They were also playing hot baseball. In a lot of ways, I feel like we've been that team. Were that team in 2018 and 2019. We weren't playing hot in 2021, but that's another similar year. Two of those three seasons, we lost to the eventual champs.

I don't know, and it obviously doesn't work like this, but part of me just thinks the Padres are going to be saying, "man, if Machado just gets it a little more, or the roof isn't there, or Chourio can't hold up on an excellent slider, we're the champs," the same way I sometimes think, "man, if Hader doesn't struggle just a little bit with command and a ball doesn't roll under Grisham's glove, we're the champs."

I'm going to continue to enjoy the win over the Dodgers right now, but I know that the series is looming. We're doing to be favored against either team, but that American league team will be a bunch of guys who are battle tested and ready to punch us in the mouth. There are a lot of examples of underdog teams winning the World Series. We'd better be ready.

A little nervous about the long layoff, wouldn’t be surprised if the offense is a bit rusty. Miz needs to show up Game 1 and give us Cy Young performance, not 4 innings.

What's on my mind? The words Brewers and World Series are still not computing in my brain. That's the biggest thing. Outside of that, I'm interested to see what the weather delay/changes to the ALCS does for the Rays/Guardians. Outside of that, I'm trying to not think too much about the World Series, get caught and ahead in projects I need to do for the upcoming week (the joys of being self-employed) and try to make my brain understand that the Brewers are hosting World Series game 1 in 6 days..

FYI if the Brewers finish the deal they will tie for 5th most season wins(114) in a season in MLB history.

I'm seeing a five way tie starting at 10th place for 114 Wins all time regular season plus postseason (* for WS Winners)...

1998 Yankees (125*)
114 RS + 11 PS

2001 Mariners (120)
116 RS + 4 PS

2018 Red Sox (119*)
108 RS + 11 PS

1906 Cubs (118)
116 RS + 2 PS

2022 Astros (117*)
106 RS + 11 PS

2019 Astros (117)
107 RS + 10 PS

1986 Mets (116*)
108 RS + 8 PS

1970 Orioles (115*)
108 RS + 7 PS

1975 Reds (115*)
108 RS + 7 PS

1909 Pirates (114*)
110 RS + 4 PS

1927 Yankees (114*)
110 RS + 4 PS

2009 Yankees (114*)
103 RS + 11 PS

2016 Cubs (114*)
103 RS + 11 PS

2017 Dodgers (114)
104 RS + 10 PS

...but yeah, finish the drill and they're pretty much putting themselves in the mix for something like the 8th to 10th best season of all time. Not too shabby.

Any chance Miz will pitch like a cy young award winner this series.

I'd estimate it at right around 50%, he either will or he won't.

Even if he doesn't, we've won both of his starts anyway this postseason (where's he's only pitched to a 1.90 FIP | 3.24 ERA after throwing forty more innings than last year) so I still like our chances.

I think Miz delivers. He'll be well-rested, I'm sure he's not happy with the last 2 starts. Just too good to not have one 'wow' start. I think the stars have aligned though, and I am thinking the Brewers in 4 or 5. They are on a mission. Their mild reaction on the field both series said a lot. Then to hear Bauers confirm it in his press conference, that the Dodgers reaction last year stuck with them. He compared their celebration to a handshake line in spring training. They don't feel like they have achieved anything yet.

There is the scene from The Office where Andy is wrapping up the series and in his monologue he says "I wish there was a way to know you're in the good old days before you've actually left them." There is a lot left to accomplish and as much as I want to stay serious and locked in on the ALCS and "do my part" by scouting and scouring opponents...

I know we are just about at the pinnacle of the best era of Brewers baseball I will ever know. I have a week left in this current moment. To revel in the Dodgers series. To revel in the Mason Miller game. To see World Series ads with our guys on them.

That's where I currently am. Metaphorically, I'm sitting on a bench looking out over a lake at sunset reflecting how lucky I am to be in this moment.

Ask me on Thursday when Gm1 starters are announced... I'll get some fire back in my eyes. Right now I'm just thankful.
