Uecker dispute with players?

Posted

I caught the final half inning on the radio tonight and am not sure I heard the right thing from Uecker. Powell said something to the effect of, "if the Brewers continue to win and things go well this is probably a game we will look back on as the turning point." I believe I then heard Uecker say "We dont have to worry they wont win." He then went on to explain that the players were upset that he sung the 7th inning stretch because it fired up the Cubs and their fans and leading to a Cub rally and win. Did anyone else hear this? Does anyone else know the story on what players spoke up and were upset with Mr Baseball? Thanx for you help guys. Its hard for me to believe Ueck would turn sour on the Crew but Im pretty sure that is what he said.

Brewers players are blaming their loss on Uecker getting the crowd pumped up? I'd really like to know which players think that, because that's a really crappy thing to believe.

Are you positive that this wasn't an instance where Uecker was joking around? Cause he can have some dry humor at times.

I have to believe Ueck was kidding. All of those terrible teams in the past and he was the cheerleader. And he always sings at Wrigley. I don't see why things would change now

He said something else - in closing as they were wrapping up the broadcast. Something about not singing and then about being the "singing broadcaster".

I am going to guess that it wasnt players that got upset but rather certain fans.

Bob sings at Wrigley every year; I don't know why this year should be any different. I'm interested in hearing from anyone who might have heard Bob's comments, though.

That’s the only thing Chicago’s good for: to tell people where Wisconsin is.

From what I understood maybe I'm wrong, it was the Cubs players saying that Uecker got them fired up, the cubs fired up, and the cubs fans fired up. Then what I thought it was, was Ueck saying that the cubs wont win tonight when he went "we don't have to worry they wont win" .

Well in the past ten minutes when I couldn't access this board for what ever reason I made this audio clip from above mentioned conversation. Listen and enjoy. I think it's fairly clear he's referring to the Cubs players.

( I did edit this clip but only the parts with Uecker reading the list of game sponsors and Jim Powell recapping the game. )

jeesh, we were listening to the game and I don't remember hearing ANY of this stuff. I'll have to check the archive.

Yeah definitely referring to the Cubs. One of the trifecta of idiots (Soriano, ARam, Zambrano) was probably running there mouths again after last nights game. Bob will always be positive and rout for the Crew through thick and thin.

If it is the Cubs who are upset then... DUH! What did you think Uecker was going to sing?

If it is the Brewer players who are upset, then stop your whining. If they are making excuses like that, then perhaps they aren't as mature as I thought. They can look right in the clubhouse for their woes... you know... that mirror that is in there.
