First trip to vegas

I rented a car last time I was there but that's because we were at the Ritz Carlton on Lake Las Vegas. I think the only time I went down to the mid Strip area was to eat the buffet at Paris.

Not to sound like an advertisement, but I see the "going to Vegas" thread appear alot and I just wanted to offer our services to anyone coming out here looking to golf. I own a golf reservation wholesale company out here (I will not list our name or info so not to anger any of the powers that be) and if any of you are ever looking for golf while visiting Las Vegas shoot me a message or an email.

I'm going back to Vegas in March and my group is thinking about staying downtown. Anyone have any recommendations for hotels that are not too expensive, but not dumps either? Over the past 5 or so trips, we've stayed on the strip at places like flamingo, mirage, harrah's as a comparison.
