Greatest Band of All Time

Page wasn't smoking reefer

It's "Smoking the Reefer".

I forget what he was doing exactly -- I just figured he found time to smoke the reefer. -- In either case, he had a bad habit.

But the peak of their ass-kicking came on I-IV and Houses of the Holy. By the time of HotH, things like "D'yer Mak'er" were popping up.

Agreed 100% --90% of the LZ I listen to is I-IV.

I'd throw Physical Graffiti in there too. I dig that album.

Yeah -- I like it better than HotH, largely because a lot of the material is I-IV stuff.

I don't know who these guys are, but I want to. It's like Kajagoogoo landed in 1985 Jefferson County.
You're close SeriesFinale, I think that's about 1988 and those cheeseballs are from Dane Countyhttp://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/embarassed.gif

Fair enough, Lamp. That album was a bit of a departure for them with all the sythesizers. I happen to think In The Evening fits in with the rest of their work but I can see how someone wouldn't like most of it. In any event, it's not for certain they would have continued down that road. U2 went off the beaten path with Zooropa but returned to their roots in subsequent albums.

I have to say, I'm really enjoying this discussion.

5. Kashmir

6. Immigrant Song

7. I Can't Quit You Baby

That was hard and could include 30 others:)

Yeah, it's not like I don't like all Zeppelin tunes. But, I'd say the ones I posted are the first ones I play on my bar jukebox.

God bless the internet jukebox. They just added every Zeppelin tune. Even BBC Sessions.

Listen to Jimmy Page in "The Girl I Love Has Long, Black Wavy Hair". Great tune that had never been released.

I love the BBC Sessions version of Heartbreaker. There's this little drum fill that Bonham does that just rules. For whatever reason, that sticks out to me as one of my favorite things ever done by Zeppelin, and it's literally just a few seconds.

That's the beauty of music. I have always loved the song Soma by the Smashing Pumpkins. During the intro when the bass and drums first hit together with the guitar is one of my favorite musical parts ever written. And that's not even a second!

Current 10 favorite Zeppelin, no particular order

Thank You

Ramble On

Tangerine

That's the Way

Misty Mountain Hop

Going to California

In the Evening

In My Time of Dying

To me, The Greatest Band of All Time has to be Queen. Freddie Mercury rules.

Edit: A close second is the Beatles, some of their songs are truly timeless classics, love it.

THE RAMONES

Not the most talented as far as playing, but they had all the right influences and could write amazing song one after another. Notably their mid-career stuff which is very overlooked since there wasn't many radio hits if any. Blitzkrieg Bop and I Wanna Be Sedated are probably their most well known, but the album Too Tough To Die is probably my favorite, though Halfway To Sanity is also very good. Richie Ramone was their best drummer and this was during his era.

I'll say

Black Sabbath

I voted Pink Floyd and they are my favorite all time band, but i do love Sabbath. Tony Iommi is a brilliant guitarist and created a sound that was so unique to him. Unlike many bands and their guitarist/guitarists, you knew Sabbath was on immediately at the sound of Iommi. I'm not a big fan of the Sabbath stuff after Ozzy left, but their work while Ozzy was the lead singer is just incredible. They also rank up there among the most influential hard rock bands ever.

I don't listen to them all the time anymore, but every once in awhile i'll be in a certain mood or buzzed after a night out and it hits me, time to blast some Sabbath. They never disappoint.

Edit-- For those talking about their favorite Zeppelin album, i think i'd have to pick II, but it's sure a tough call

I think it's the production on Born Again that people must hate. Otherwise, yeah songwise it's very good.

Heaven & Hell and The Mob Rules are also good.
