Engagement Dinner: Any good Milwaukee restaurants?

An engagement is in my near future, and I'm trying to pick a romantic restaurant for the special evening.

I've done some research and have found three that sound interesting.

Pasta Tree

Pieces of Eight

Coast

I have not eaten at any of those three restaurants and appreciate any comments any of you may have about them. I'd certainly welcome any suggestions on different restaurants as well. I would prefer to have the restaurant to be on the East Side, so that understandably might limit my options a bit. Thanks much. I appreciate any help you can give me.

Pasta Tree is nice, and the food is great.

However- it's small and rather tight quartered and you are very close to those around you. Kinda cramped.

I've not eaten at the other two places.

-I used to have a neat-o signature, but it got erased.

Come to think of it, Coast is pretty hip and new compared to Pieces of 8. My brother in law is a Chef and has eaten at Coast. He was impressed with the food and the atmosphere.

Where ever you go, good luck!

Lake Park Bistro

Lake Park Bistro

this was my first thought as well.

not necessarily "fancy" like the other restaurants mentioned, but another intersting place is the polaris restaurant at the top of the hyatt downtown.

Congrats/good luck on the impending engagement.

I agree with Jamie that Pasta Tree is nice but a little cramped. Homer made an excellent suggestion with Lake Park Bistro.

The Coast is the only one I've been to. Nice atmosphere, good food and nice views of the Art Museum.

And when you're done, you can head upstairs to Betty Brinn's Children's Museum to check out where you'll be spending many hours with future kids. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif

The Lake Park Bistro is by far my favorite restaurant in the city, but I don't really find it as romantic as people claim it to be. The chairs are uncomfortable, seating is cramped, and it is LOUD. However; the food is ridiculously good, they have a great wine list and the view in The Lake Room is arguably the best you'll find at any restaurant in the city.

My pick would be either Sanford (Zagat's recently ranked it in the top 10 restaurants in the country. Plus it's very intimate as seating is extremely limited. Call ahead.) or Bacchus (Less French and more modern version of Lake Park Bistro. You can't possibly go wrong with a Bartalotta establishment.) Good Luck!

I was going to suggest Bacchus but couldn't think of the name.

"Coerpers 5 O'Clock "

I'll give another vote for Coerpers. Its a bit pricey but the food is amazing and you get large portions compared to some of the other expensive restaurants in town. I hate going into a place, ordering a $30 steak, and walking out hungry because the portions are small. Bacchus is also very good. The portions aren't as large as Coerpers but you will walk out with a full stomach and great dining experience. Congrats and good luck to you and your future fiance.

Lake Park has been hit or miss for me.

I would suggest Sanfords. It's very pricey, but worth every penny of it. It's intimate, and their chefs choice with wine pairing is to die for. I really enjoy Sandy DeMotoes food.

Sanford is best restaurant in city hands down and would be my choice for you. The chefs choice is, like said above, to die for.

Do NOT go to Pieces of Eight - that place is awful.

Lake Park Bistro is nice.

Bacchus would also be a nice choice.

I do not think Coast is the atmosphere you would for an engagement dinner.
