Luis Robert Available, Should The Brewers Call The White Sox?

According to BTV, Robert has a trade value of 36.4.

Frelick would be the obvious choice in that trade. I would include either Black or Boeve as a 2nd piece. You'd probably need another quality prospect so I am including Luke Adams.

Frelick, Boeve and Adams. I would add Uribe if they wanted another piece. 

Boeve has been getting a ton of helium and we had discussed Adams in trades last deadline.

UGH!  Robert can't stay on the field.  Just can't.

I can't see that changing in the future, guy is fragile.

Not a chance in hell I'm including Boeve in any deal for Robert.

I view Robert as completely over-rated, add his injury history to the package and I'm simply not interested.  

I'd much rather trade the farm for starting pitching than a guy who will be hitting the IL constantly.

No to Robert, the Sox are going to want a boat load and Robert is always hurt. On top of that, his high strikeout to walk rate is concerning. I wouldnt offer any top young players maybe something like Weimer, Dunn, Ashby, and Payamps which I would guess is not close to what the Sox can get.

Robert to the Phillies makes a ton of sense in my head. Abel, Rojas, and a 3rd piece would be a good get.

The Brewers have their own version of Robert - an uber-talented, athletic outfielder who can't stay healthy - already in house in Mitchell.  Outfield is the last position I'd want the Brewers to focus on improving their roster via trade this season, because they have young OF options to continuously cycle through around Yelich, and all of them at minimum are going to provide premium defense.

Get a quality veteran starter (or two) and improve the offensive output on the bench 1st please...once that's done, then may take a look at how the likes of Chourio/Frelick/Mitchell/Wiemer/Perkins are performing in the OF alongside Yelich and sort out if adding another outfielder makes any sense.

I am very likely the biggest Mitchell fan on here and they are in no way comparable in terms of talent. Let's not underrate Robert now, he was a legitimate MVP candidate last season and is 26 under team control for 3.5 seasons with a reasonable contract.

Correct. The injury this season and the White Sox being awful are really the only reasons he is available. If the Crew can get him without giving up one of our top two prospects, they should seriously consider it. The guy is in his prime right now and you could have control of him throughout his entire prime years. I can't believe people are throwing Wiemer out there as the headliner for him.

With all of our draft picks this year and success on the International level, now is the time to consolidate some of those guys and pick up a premium player. If you want to debate whether that should be a starter or not, go ahead. The starters available with team control in their prime are not impressive however.

This.  Yes, he had a good 2023, but at 30 BB to 172 K, that doesn't bode well for sustaining that production.  Guys with that kind of ratio tend to be flash-in-the-pan, a couple of good seasons but then the book gets out on him and they drop off.

And if 145 games is the most that he's played in the last three seasons, with two of the three less than 100 total games between majors or minors, I'm not giving up any top prospects for him.

It wasn't too long ago that he got hit in the face, directly in the face, and was on the IL for that injury.

There is bound to be some rebound time after getting drilled in the face.

I think he'll be fine once he has his head back in it.

The most important ability of a mlb player is health and their ability to stay on the field.

Robert doesn't have that.

Robert played in 68 games in 2021, 98 games in 2022, 145 games in 2023, and has only been on the field 10 games in 2024.

We already have an outfielder in Yelich who can go down with a back injury anytime, and of course Mitchell.

I just don't want to spend the trade capitol on an often injured outfielder to add to the injury filled mess we already have.

Picking up Robert would be sorta like picking up Yelich when we did. Young still best ball ahead of him. Where are the prospects that we gave up to get him? Selling shoes? People love prospects till they ain't prospects anymore. Give me a proven stud. Sure he gets hurt but imagine going from the Sox to this team. He will want to play.

I don't think it's about "wanting to play"....Robert's career year with the most games played was last year, when he led the White Sox to a 101-loss season.

I also think there are some other contending teams in search of OF help that will ramp up the bidding for Robert, and I think the Brewers need to focus more on acquiring starting pitching and improve their bench offensively while seeing what Mitchell can do when he's back and see if Chourio's stats improve with a bit more MLB seasoning.  

Much rather find a starter for the price. Crochet would probably cost less and give us more value.

1) It's not about hoarding prospects.  It's about who we get in return for those prospects.

B) I would not describe someone who's had one good season with a 30:172 BB to K ratio as a "proven stud".

You mean proven like Garrett Mitchell Sal Frelick etc... This guy hit 38 hr last year not 5 years ago. If you think after that Phillies series Brewers couldn't use another run production bat I don't know.... you can argue they have arms coming back. I don't see any bats coming to the rescue. Difference of opinion I guess.

You could say that about Mitchell obviously. It comes down to what is the price? If it isn't too steep it's a no brainer.

No no no to the thought of trading for Robert unless the cost is ridiculously low like Wiemer and Meyers or something laughable like that.

His injury concerns are one of the reasons he may be available for a non ridiculous price. If he was 30 or older, I would have more concern. 

He just went deep to straight away center. The guy is a monster when healthy. Put him after Contreras and Yelich and drop Willy to 6 and we are in business.

This is a guy who is averaging 4.6 fWAR/600 PA. When he's healthy he's a legit stud. I think you at least have to call the White Sox and do your due diligence.
