  1. It really comes down to health. If CC is healthy he is worth 25+, but there are no guarentees. It really comes down to comfort level with the risk. A 4 year deal with an incentive type of 5th year might have a shot, but ultimately a 6 year deal will probably get him signed. That would be too risky IMHO.
  2. I want Sveum http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  3. I want SVEUM back....I just am not thrilled with any of these guys. I liked Brenly untill I heard about his lack of tacticiam abilities.
  4. Melvin is a top 15 GM. Consider the financial limitations he works with. He done a very good job and deserves an extention.
  5. Mark A should invest some seriou $ in Jack Z. Possibly as much as a GM would make. Jack and Doug are better together that apart.
  6. I don't see a Fielder for Beltre deal. I could see Beltre being a target for the Brewers, but not for Fielder, unless a young SP with #1 or #2 type stuff was also part of the deal.
  7. To me the future of Price is very much tied to CC. Maybe I am way off base, but if CC signs, Prince stays...at least for another year or two. If CC doesn't resign, I think Prince gets dealt for a SP... if possible. You do not want to sell low on him. If CC walks, I could see JJ and / or Prince dealt for SP. I'd like to see Hardy at 3rd for a long time and Escobar at ss. Who are likely candidates for SP trade targets besides Cain (I don't see Cain as an option unless CC signs there)? Greinke? Halladay? Others? We also have Hall and Suppan who need to be moved and possibly Weeks as well. We will need to give up more and or take back less to move them. I may be willing to do that with Hall and Suppan, but I am not sure about Weeks.
  8. I agree - 6 for 144 is out of MKE's reach a - 4 year deal is as long as I'd go with any pitcher - unless the alst two years are club options with a buyout. 4 years 88-100 is all I'd do. Even that would make me gulp and swallow hard.
  9. I'd like Brenly or Sveum. It sounds like Decker is going to AAA to replace Kremblas. He is a good friend of Mark A's. I'm thinking it will be Brenly with Sveum and Yount staying on. Yount is a good friend of Brenly's. I have little to base that guess on. I did like Sveum's approach to going with a consistant lineup. I may not have agreed with the lineup, but you can't make chicken salad out of chicken crap. This team needs a leadoff hitter. Right now I'd roll my dice with Gywnn, but that knock Cameron out of the lineup and likely off the team. There are likely other options out there but this team must fill that role and add an additional high BA and OPS guy to the lineup. That can happen at CF, 2nd, or 3rd. There is plenty of power in the lineup, we need baserunners. If we trade Prince, should we try to get Overbay back?
  10. I understand what you were saying about Fielder for Giambi - I just feel that is too big of a drop off in talent for a trade off. Besides - the chances of adding both Giambi and Abreau wold be slim. I would try to get Cain for Hart and filler if needed and still try to get Greinke with someone else...they would have no interest in Fielder...I don't think.
  11. I'd sign Abreau and trade Hart as well. Not as thrilled with the Prince for Giambi idea. I'd try to target Zack Greinke in the off season as well using a package of minor leaguers
  12. I am not in favor of trading Hardy or Fielder. I'd like to see us move Hardy to 3b, put Escobar at ss, trade weeks for a Left handed batting 2nd baseman who can lead off, move Hart to CF and Gamel to RF. If I had to trade Hardy, Hart, or Fielder - I'd deal Hart simply because Gamel could play there now. Roberts would be my choice at 2nd if we could acquire him via trade from Balt. At least we would have 3 LH bats in our regular lineup.
  13. It's amazing to me to read threads like this which people complain about an owner who spends money and is involved. For years we begged for exactly this type of an owner. Would I have fired Yost - probably not, but since his firing I am wondering why he wasn't fird sooner. I have a number of baseball people talk about his oddities and poor strategies (like pitchers batting 8th - that really worked http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/frown.gif) I am thrilled we pulled out all the stops - What's the worst that can happen? We miss the playoffs? Its not like we haven't done that before.
  14. Yep - That would be fantasy. Sorry! 5yr/ 125M is that what it might take? Gulp!
  15. Trade Rickie to acquire a lefty 2nd baseman Have Gwynn play CF Let Hall play FT at 3rd...yes leave him alone! Cut Cameron, let Gagne go, allow Sheets to leave and back up the Brinks for Sabathia. I would overpay for a 5 yr deal for Sabathia (5years 90 mil). With the losses of the above the payroll would not go up.
  16. This team did a complete choke job during the homestand, but I am really impressed with the Cubs pitching and offense. We have become the HR or bust group. There needs to be more balance in teh line up regarding BA. The offseason acquisitions have largely been a bust. Cameron plays good Defense, but sucks offensively. Gagne...nuff said. Riske...hopefully he returns to form...someday. Weeks needs to find teh bench and Hart needs some rest. Offseason offensive wish list - better on base guys to replace Hall, Cameron, and Weeks. Can they turn it around? Sure they can, but I think it's a pipe dream to think we can catch the Cubs.
  17. I would go all out for CC. He has been healthier and he is a lefty. Gallardo would complement him well with Parra and Suppan. He is the type of pitcher that you consider overpaying - slightly. Take the Cameron $ (move Hart to CF and bring up Gamel for RF) and Gagne $ along with the sheets money and get it done. 5 year $100
  18. As I look at the brewers lineup, the obvious need is anothe lefthanded bat. The only position I see that makes sense to make a change is 2nd. I know many love the potential of Rickie Weeks, but a left handed batter who can hit for an average would be real nice. What LH 2nd basemen are available? It sounds like Roberts is not...at least for a reasonable price.
  19. I would guess that The $ for Francouer would be similar or a bit more than the $ invested in Hall right now. Sheets coming off the books allows us to attempt at grabbing a more expensive catcher option and or Pitching option. I like the deal becuase it provides additional options for subsequent moves. I don't like dealing Sheets because he is a legit #1 when healthy. Unfortunately it has been a few years since that happened. I believe we would need to go get another pitcher to go with Yo, Suppan, Bush, Vargas, and Cappy. Villanueva maybe could start, but he was so nice as a long reliever. A #2 or #3 pitcher would be key...if possible.
  20. IMHO Hall, Weeks, and Fielder are the only untouchables on this team. A year ago I would not have said that about Hall, but he has proven to me that he is the real deal. I have no problem with Hall in the Outfield, I would like to See Hall, Hart, and Wells - but I don't think I would be willing to give up what it would take to get Wells. I think it would require Hall, Weeks or Fielder. I have no problem with Counsell or Hardy at SS. I think they are probably both defensive upgrades to Hall, even though he really raised the bar last season. I love Koskie at 3b. I think his injury is what really killed this team last season. I would not have a problem with an OF of Hall, Hart (one plays CF) and a Jenkins or Gross / Clark platoon.
  21. I would love a 1 year deal for Stewart. If he stays healthy you have a potential steal.
  22. Are we as fans part of the problem? We enjoy some of the cheapest concessions and tickets anywhere. We @#%$ every time prices are raised and we crab about the "rich"players and they should play for the love of the game. We ask the owners of our teams to do everything possible to win, but are we willing to make the same sacrifice? We still have some who complain about the tax to build the stadium. How much does any one person contribute? $20 a year? That would be the max. I want the Brewerts to win. I want them to sign big name guys. But the truth is, I'm not sure how much I am personally willing to contribute to make it happen.
  23. It seems like every time we speculate on the value of a player on the market, we seem to be about 2 mil off per year. Why is that? Are we cheap thinking (like most of Milwaukee) or are we simply cheap. I am referring to us as fans as much as the team itself. Going into this off season, I was hoping for a bat and an arm. That is still doable. but it may cost us a bit more than we had previously hoped. Dave Roberts looks good, but fragile. The problem is, every player on the FA market that we will try to acquire brings baggage. That sucks but it is life. I am confident that we will add a few pieces and pray that the youngsters develope. Is that cheap, or smart? I am torn from day to day.
  24. I'd go 5 years 75 mil if Soriano will play OF. I thjink he is that good and would be worth the money as an OF. Bringing him in as a 2nd baseman doesn't help us much IMHO.
  25. I would not trade hall for Arod. I would consider Jenkins and Hardy for him. However that is about as high as I would go. In many ways I think Hall is just as or even more valuable than Weeks at this point.
