  1. I started "dating" a Brewers fan. I grew up a Yankees fan, but my parents weren't baseball fans and none of my friends liked baseball, so it wasn't until I met my boyfriend that I was a exposed to a world outside the Yankees. It also helped that he is as much, probably more, of a baseball geek than me. I remember when we first started seeing each other, I asked to put the game on, and he said it wasn't on TV. I was so confused because I couldn't understand why the game wasn't on, and I realized how different the organizations were and just became interested. I actually sought out a Brewers fan message board (bf.net came recommended) to learn more about the team. I'd like to think if we ever break up (which would never happen because I have my claws in him) I would still follow and care about the team as much as I do now.
  2. You're right that it's not just about the media. But I think when people say that it's about living in NY, there's an assumption of NY=Manhattan. He could live in Westchester, Greenwich CT, Forest Hill NJ, etc. Even Andy Pettitte, who I think of as a good ol' texas boy, does just fine. I've always believed that Sabathia would ideally want to be in California to be closer to his family, but I just can't see living in the NYC area that much of a deterrent. Then again, I am a Yankee fan and was raised in Jersey. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif
  3. Of course he's using the Yankees deal to get a better offer, but that doesn't mean he's concerned about NYC. Agents always bring up other teams to get their highest bidders to raise their prices. Why do you think the Red Sox are now interested? And CC never struck me as a guy who would be shy about the big-bad-NY-media. This is a guy who sits courtside with LeBron James. He's trying to get the best deal he wants, and I can't blame him. The only reason I want him to hurry up and make a decision is because the suspense is killing me, and the Yankees need to make other plans on starting pitching.
  4. I've never tried a McRib (and never will), but I dry-heaved just reading that. Meat should never be grey. I've never had one either, but it was always my understanding that McRibs were just liquid meat molded into rib-like forms. After hearing that description I would never try them. White Castle discussion always make me smile. It's definitely one of those love or hate places. I was hate, but my father is love. So much that whenever I would go to the our closest mall, he expected me to bring back White Castle since it was right next door and the closest one to our house. He grew up in the Bronx, and it always made me laugh that whenever we would go to White Castle there, the cashiers were always behind a bullet proof glass and we had to give them the money bank style. It's the only food place I knew of that operated like that.
  5. I just watched the animated short Peter and the Wolf that won the 2008 Oscar for best short animated film. It was great. I love stop motion animation, and it was combined with digital animation, so visually I thought it was fantastic. And I heart how it had no speaking, just the music.
  6. Tsk, tsk, such arrogance. During the season, as a Yankee fan, I never thought it was a given they would sign Sabathia. I snickered at people who would imply that it would happen simply because it's the Yankees and they would offer the most money, which he would chose regardless of the intangibles. Today I think the Yankees are the favorite, but I still don't think it's a guarantee. I think I'll almost feel relieved if he does sign.
  7. He might not have been perfect, but I was sincerely sad to hear he left the Brewers.
  8. I cannot believe that Burnett might get a 5 year deal. TheCrew07, you make a good point. Big market teams don't value compensation picks as much as smaller market teams, simply because they can get the players they want other ways (e.g. $$$).
  9. I would have no problem giving him 2 years with a 3rd as a club option. Actually, as a Yankees fan, this is what I'd like them to do.
  10. I'm also surprised by the lack of players offered arbitration. Although I think it has less to do with the economy and more to do with cost control. That was at least the reason Brian Cashman gave when asked why no one was offered. Though the Diamondbacks did lay off something like 30 front office employees recently. BTW, I'd also like to jump on the Dunn bandwagon.
  11. I'll definitely see this in the theaters. I don't want to even read articles on the movie so that I don't have anything spoiled. I don't really care for JJ Abrams, but the trailer has given me hope. I love TNG, but have only watched some episodes of the original series. I'm familiar enough with the characters, esp. since I watched the movies, but I might watch some more before I go see the movie.
  12. You should definitely pick up Pat Jordan's False Spring. The book's about his once promising career in the minors. He started in the Milwaukee Braves organization. I think he's a great writer, so if you like it I suggest picking up a collection of his sports writing. I also agree with Tailgat0r76 on Ball Four. This might be helpful to you. It's a list of essential baseball books voted on by other writers.
  13. http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_me9DkcAd3eI/SScZgD4qTHI/AAAAAAAACD0/f8RRq9weVCc/s400/aw1.jpg From Bucky Channel. The pictures are from a going away party. Oh and since I posted a picture, why not share this one of CC enjoying NYC: http://nomaas.org/images/sabathia_booty.jpg OK, that's fake but still makes me laugh.
  14. Maybe he would want arbitration. He could use it to show he's durable and up his value, a la Burnett. I would take Sheets over Burnett in a second, and not just a one year deal. If his elbow is okay, which his camp is saying is, then I see nothing wrong with a two year deal. Being a Yankee fan, I would like to see the team take advantage of him now on the cheap.
  15. The Wire and Six Feet Under are both really great shows. I'd go with The Wire, even though SFU is probably easier to get into. The Wire is just perfect- it has the dialogue, characters, acting, storyline. And it is better than The Sopranos (but I might be biased because I'm an Italian-American from Jersey). If you like the American Office, you should check out the British one. It's great. I just finished Ricky Gervais' other show Extras. The Christmas special made me tear up! Not fair. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif Recently I watched some movies: Grey Gardens - great Incident at Loch Ness- eh Ravenous - surprisingly good Fabulous Stains - awesome
  16. Don't be silly! Men like sports and beer, while women like to cook and shop. To be honest though, I've never been the type of girl to get on my guy for liking "guy stuff" so this dynamic seems like something out of a bad sitcom. Oh you poor, poor boys. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif
  17. I never knew that Snuffleupagus was once Big Bird's imaginary friend.
  18. It seems you need to work on your game. My boyfriend and I once slept in different rooms and we never had a problem with "teh sexy time".
  19. That's funny but how bizarre a reporter would pull down his pants for an autograph. He must work for tmz.
  20. The only "bandwagon fans" I don't like are those of rival teams who feel the need to scream to me about how great their team is and how mine is just poop.
  21. I agree with you, and I don't think it's arrogant to expect well-written, insightful baseball articles. It's not everyone (I already mentioned Tyler Kepner in this thread) but it's the majority. It's a shame that blogs and message boards are better places for baseball discussion than newspapers today.
  22. I checked out a Yankee message board for you and it looks like there are a couple people looking for tickets for those dates too. Have you tried craigslist? I have friends who have bought them on the street with no problem. I say go for it.
  23. If you think that bad team chemistry has a negative impact on a team's success, then I recommend you check out this article from U.S.S. Mariner. It's long but worth it.
  24. The idea that team chemistry breeds winning is a myth that makes me want to vomit on my keyboard.
