  1. Not counting any live or greatest hits albums, I would have to go with Amy Winhouse's Back to Black.
  2. I don't think Ken Singleton gets enough love. Here's an article by Joe Posnanski looking at the best players in baseball (and a few they beat out) using Win Shares. I was suprised how many times Singleton's name came up.
  3. Russell Branyan became the first player to hit a home run in the upper deck at the new Yankee Stadium and the only player to hit the glass at the Mohegan Sports Bar in center.
  4. This is a pet peeve. I think the biggest problem with rowdy dogs are a lack of exercise. Of course you need attention, discipline, loving, but without exercise most dogs will go crazy. Having a dog is not like having doll, and unfortunately a lot of owners don't realize this. (edit: language in quote --1992)
  5. If you rent a cabin, have an activity planned. I would suggest white water rafting. I've gone twice, and it's super fun, isn't expensive, and doesn't require any skill. Plus you can make a whole afternoon of it.
  6. Chipper Jones torn his ACL and is out for the year. Considering he said he'll probably retire this year, I think his career is over. With a career 76.2 WAR and .941 OPS, almost 500 doubles, over 400 homers, and being a switch-hitting 3rd baseman, I think he deserves to be in the HoF.
  7. This organization has been a laughing stock for years. But I have to say regarding Rodriguez, when Mariano Rivera says he doesn't want your locker near him during the All Star game, you know you're a bad apple.
  8. Exactly. I still say the Yankees will be after him with a vengeance. There will be no way the Brewers can or should beat any offer the Yankees will be able to make.Supposedly Cashman is going after Lee the same way he went after Sabathia (make him #1 priority and outbid everyone), and Sabathia said after the Lee trade, and I'm paraphrasing, that he we all know he will be a Yankee next year. I don't know if this will happen, but I also didn't think the Yankees would sign Sabathia.
  9. Here's an interesting article about Wakamatsu, Griffey, and the clubhouse atmosphere. I'd like to add this to another reason why I don't like Griffey.
  10. To piggyback off this, it really bothers me that "eighth-inning guy" has become an acronym (EIG) on a Yankees message board I frequent.
  11. I think he's a good writer, so here's Joe Posnanski's opinion.
  12. Atlantic City! gambling, free booze, beach, ocean, fantastic food!
  13. In his first year with the Yankees, he was good the first half, but got hurt the second and it showed in his performance. So far this year, he stunk the first month+, but has been good/QS the past several months. So I don't believe his performance has anything to do with the team he's on. The problem is that his velocity has been down from last year, and generally all over the place this year. I still believe he'll finish the season solidly, but I wouldn't sign him to anything over a year.
  14. I really don't think the Pacific NW can hold a candle to the upper midwest. Would you rather have: New Glarus, Bell's, Jolly Pumpkin, Three Floyds, Founders, Kuhnnen (never had their beers but they're awesome from what I've heard), Goose Island, Surly, and Tyranena or Russian River, Rogue, Hair of the Dog and North Coast? Just wanted to add, off the top of my head, Oregon also has Bridgeport, Deschutes, Widmer, Full Sail, and Cascade Lakes. EDR will probably add more info since he knows more than I ever will on Pacific NW beer.
  15. Chris Coghlan, who hurt his knee after throwing a pie in a walkoff celebration, is going to need surgery and is probably out for the year. Yikes
  16. If I miss a game, I'll quickly look at the score and pitching/hitting performances but will try to find a beat writer recap. I can't be bothered to read through threads when I want an immediate, short game summary with manager and player quotes. I do not want bias or bad writing. Maybe my expectations are high because I follow another team that has better coverage, but I just think it royally stinks for fans, especially new ones, to not have at least average reporting of their team. We do have good reporting though. Adam McCalvy and Jordan Schelling. I am giving Jordan the benefit of the doubt but he seems ok so far. Oh, I meant in newspapers. I do like McCalvy but I'm not really familiar with Schelling.
  17. Tampa Bay is being no hit again! Morrow through 7 with 14 Ks.

  19. Unless it hit the batter, absolutely not. Here's the rule.
  20. That is a very misleading picture, it was a ground ball that already bounced before it reaches 3rd. The ump based his call on where he thought the ball was when it crossed the base. It was not a fly ball that landed behind him. The point of the picture was to show the umpire's view of the base. Once the ball bounces, it matters whether it crosses the base. I thought it did. What bothers me most about this situation is the umpire's arrogance. He won't even look at a replay because he says he's right.
  21. This probably belongs in that other thread, but this article is a collection of quotes. You could do some work Mr. Witrado. Anyway, he didn't talk about why he was struggling. I hope he isn't lost at the plate. I still believe he got into bad habits from the injury and it hasn't been corrected or recognized, so until then he's going to be subpar.
  22. Congratulations to Alexander!! He's great, but I also liked how he acted during this chase. He could have been "ALL ME" but all he talked about was the team results.
  23. Maybe we complain about umpires too much, but this is sad. If this umpire called the double correctly (instead of foul), the Marlins would have won. Here's a shot: http://i.imgur.com/f8JZh.jpg
