  4. I made a comparison last month that a proposed trade offer on Hanley Ramirez in the Transactions forum was akin to a Marlins fan offering Gaby Sanchez for Ryan Braun. That's the only time I can think of anyone saying anything about Sanchez-Braun, & I certainly wasn't saying anything about seriously trading Braun for him.

  7. Gennett needs to put on more muscle, too. Pedroia's small, but Gennett's rail-thin on top of being small. I hope he just keeps hitting & improving.
  8. I love this idea too. I'm excited to see what the Brewers can get from Rogers, Kintzler, Braddock, Fiers, Peralta, & Parra in 2012. There's a good chance they'll either have a lot of depth, or won't need to spend much money on the bullpen. I'd like to see both Saito & Hawkins retained if they want to come back, though.
  9. Greinke's such a good athlete, I think that's what makes me ok with the idea of a long-term deal. I'd say out of current 40-man guys, only Gomez, Plush, Braun, Weeks, Faris, & Schaefer are faster than him. Also, the Brewers.com article titled "Mum on Reyes" has me thinking he's a very serious target at this point. I may have to eat my words on him... but I guess I still think someone is going to be willing to go that one extra year for him over whatever the Brewers are comfortable with. I'd guess Melvin would hesitate to go more than four seasons, & five would be his cutoff if he's 100% sold on Reyes. The leak about the Madson contract negotiations is cool because you can see that teams are definitely able to spend. Iirc I saw one piece online that thought Fielder could get up to something like 8 yrs./$190M or thereabouts. I don't think that's likely, but the indication right now is that the money is there this offseason.
  10. Yep, same in the Fox Valley. Got pretty nasty here for a while, but it's not bad now.
  11. Not at all. That was good. I'm legitimately sad to see this. I agree Family Circus wasn't all that funny, but I loved the Billy editions. This 'updated' one is good (SFW) http://www.cracked.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2010/08/sb68-map1.jpg
  12. MLBTR did a piece on the Brewers - http://www.mlbtraderumors...k-milwaukee-brewers.html Nothing earth-shattering, but nice to get the attention.
  13. From MLBTR: I'm not exactly sure how reliable a "Mets person"'s knowledge of the Marlins' plans would or wouldn't be, but that's the first semi-specific contract offer rumor I think I've seen for Reyes so far this offseason. It's certainly seeming like at the very least it's going to take a while for teams to start entertaining committing real long-term offers to him.
  14. Yeah, any mod, please kill this thread. When I originally posted it, it was being reported as a done deal. Sorry. Rosenthal tweet
  15. Imo Jay's a decent hitting comp. for Gamel, but Gamel has more power
  16. The Cards are exactly who I think of when I think of how the Brewers have handled Gamel & Green*. I chuckle to think about how long LaRussa would've put up with McGehee's lack of production last season. * - not that Gamel had a real position until Fielder left, just the general approach of not being afraid of playing 'unproven' players

  18. Josh, please tell Lo that Brewers fans are excited for him & his opportunity in KC this coming season. I hope he shreds AL pitching!
  19. KC Star piece, via MLBTR, focuses on how Lo Cain is affected by this trade.
  20. Reyes always used to remind me of Rafa Furcal without the huge arm. That's not to say that Reyes has a weak arm, Furcal just has a rare gift attached to his right shoulder. I'd imagine that endaround's point that Reyes may be getting back (at least near) to his true talent on defense is probably accurate, but clearly he won't be the same guy anymore since he's aging. My guess would be that he's still an asset on defense when healthy.
  21. This (imo) is the luxury afforded big-market teams. They can essentially overpay for the next two seasons of Madson, when he should probably still be expected to be very good. Then if/when he's overpayed & underproducing, they still have the payroll to find another solution.
  22. Even if there weren't the injury/durability concerns, for an organization like the Brewers, trading a first-round pick to sign an expensive player into his 30s should be a practice generally avoided.
  23. MLBTR link The deal has a $13M option for a 5th season.
  24. Oh, wow. Ouch. That has to sting for the Mets.
  25. I thought it was interesting to see that Baseball-Reference has the Brewers' estimate payroll for 2011 at appx. $110M. They estimate that the Brewers would trail only PHI & SF in terms of NL payrolls. Here's the link to the team-specific page for the Brewers, that kind of explains how they arrived at the estimated payroll amount -- http://www.baseball-refer...ms/MIL/2011-roster.shtml The main page of B-Ref currently shows the payroll estimates for all teams, in a standings-like display format.
