  1. I'm very glad Melvin, & not you, is in control if that's the case.
  2. I guess Hardy's, Weeks', and Cameron's offensive performance has been more tolerable because they have played decent defense, but when you are performing poorly at the plate AND in the field your behind needs to get parked on the bench for a while. Both Weeks & Cameron have been very good the past two weeks, which is a good indication why talent should be trusted over the small sample of the first month of a season. Hardy had a couple big hits tonight.[..EDIT: which doesn't mean what I implied. J.J. has a long way to go to make up for a very slow start, as do Rickie & Mike. They're the best options we have, so I vote to bank on them succeeding]
  3. They are on him because they don't like the attitude of "gimme my money" with nothing in return. This was not Fielder's attitude. This is the kind of distortion of what he said that's problematic. What Wisconsin fans don't like are highly paid athletes complaining about their paychecks. He's not high-paid by athlete standards. He's very low-paid. Prince has the option to cash in and get $50M tomorrow and we're supposed to empathize with him not making enough because his agent is unwilling to cash him in? Tough luck. Cry me a river. If that's how you want to play it, go out there and play your game and shut your mouth. Don't come out to the media complaining about "not getting yours" because you are too greedy to accept $50 million This is not the way it played out either. The media came to him, and he answered a direct question without being disrespectful or ridiculous. I can't fault fans for being upset that Fielder has chosen Boras & the big money, but he is not this evil whiny villain people try to make him out to be. The fans won't begrudge you unless you pull a Mike Mckenzie, Gary Sheffield, or a Javon Walker. Then I take it you retract your claims about Prince?
  4. In a competitive tourney, an ump said foul by mistake...at that point, it was a dead ball, even though several of us saw the ball land fair. The ump admitted his mistake, and told the other team he goofed, but he could not change it, as we had stopped playing the ball. If a HR, it could have been changed, but not a live ball...it turned dead when it was called. A fair ball called foul, one of the minority of calls that can't be overturned/corrected. If, in real-time, the ump had said, 'Foul -- no, FAIR!', I think the play could have & should have continued.
  5. Don't forget FIP -- 2.92, 4.02. 4.86, 4.74, 4.48 (Bos)
  6. Bill has noted many times over the seasons that, 'They tell me in my earpiece that...' He probably just decided to forgoe the correction, for whatever reason.
  7. The fact that what you see has changed so drastically -- does that indicate anything? The skill levels certainly haven't had enough time to change much.
  8. And as I keep pointing out, that just isn't true. It's not about what's true or not. It's just a way to feel good by venting frustration imo.
  9. JJ was lucky with that hard hit ball, looked to me like it was going to be a 4 - 3. Interesting -- BA & Rock were in agreement that, had Hudson not gotten in the way, that the ball would've rolled out to CF.
  10. with only one (intentional) walk The Dave Bush we know & love!
  11. Yeah, I was surprised to see that too. Small sample has to be in play... right?
  12. Branyan with a double and walk tonight. It's working pretty decent so far. Not to mention his calm, smooth defense. Sort of the anti-Hall, who appears (could be a case of the 'seems like-s') to try to uncork the rocket throw when possible, as opposed to delivering a quiet throw. Branyan's throws were right on the money, especially the start to the DP that Weeks finished.
  13. You wouldn't necessarily be wrong, as I don't think it was a no-brainer call. Given the game situation (obv. including the foot speed of the runner), I think the correct play (not gamble, as I agree that the odds favored the score) was made. The result in this case supported that. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif Blanco had time to get in better throwing/crow-hopping position iirc, so it's further illustration that the right decision was to go for the tag-up -- force the defense to make a perfect throw. This is still vastly different from getting picked off 2B, which is much more what this thread's OP was about; not making a smart tag-up decision.
  14. Have I ever mentioned how awesome I think Rickie Weeks is? Well, I love the guy.
  15. An aggressive attempt at the winning run in the bottom of the 9th is nowhere near a baserunning blunder like getting picked off 2B. Besides, a nearly perfect throw still couldn't get Hall -- it wasn't all that risky. Apples to oranges imo.
  16. Fantastic contribution from 3B all-around tonight. GREAT baserunning in general from Billy in the 9th! YEEHAA!
  17. Ummm... did Tavarez actually not only get good results but pitch well too there? Wow.
  18. Why don't you go take your 'stats' & 'numbers' and have a seat! http://david.sudarma.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2008/01/macys_couch_450.jpg
  19. Another Weeks rip... right at the dang fielder. Just like his last AB tonight! http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/frown.gif
  20. There you go, dlk http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  21. But wait... BF.net told me that Hardy doesn't know how to hit anymore, especially with RISP!
  22. In most cases, if an ump calls out a ruling, it is not correctable...a fair ball called foul is foul, for example. I would say the batter is out, or possibly a good solution would be a replay at most levels would be fine This is not the case in my umpiring experience whatsoever. A fair ball being called foul is in the smaller percentage of calls that couldn't be overturned/corrected. A foul ball getting called fair, for instance, is easily correctable. I agree that re-playing the at-bat/pitch works very well in an amateur setting. Slow-pitch/beer league softball often provides the umpires numerous occasions to overturn calls, and in most times from my personal experience, the incorrect calls were corrected to everybody's benefit.
  23. WOW -- I've never seen a more direct hit to the nuts on a C. In fact, I don't think it'd be possible. Geez! Is Diaz ok? Ouch. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/frown.gif
  24. Is that true? Day/Night OPS splits (AL & NL) from 2007 appear basically dead even, as does run-scoring.
  25. Of course if we'd kept Vargas & he was turning in typical at-Vargas starts, just as many fans would be reminding us how Melvin has no idea how to evaluate pitching.
