  1. I guess one way to look at this is if the situation were in reverse... if the Crew's regulars were bombing out an ungodly amount of HR, and the team total would put them on pace for over 300 HR on a season, would people be expecting a huge progression in terms of HR hitting, or would they chalk it up to ST & small sample?
  2. So if the study focused upon - for an example - pitches #100 & greater (in terms of a pitch count) for given starts, would that be a better way to analyze? Or would there still be too much standing in the way of objective analysis?
  3. Yeah, and as Hale points out, take a look at the U.S. Cellular temp - something tells me the true temp for Chicago lies somewhere between the two numbers.
  4. Mods, not sure if this is more appropriate in MLB or Stats, so feel free to move (obviously). Came across a two-part look at how temperature/weather impacts baseball by Jonathan Hale of Baseball Digest Daily. Pt. 1: "Some Like it Hot" Pt. 2: "Hot Spots & Cool Breezes" Honestly, there isn't much that you might not expect. However, it's interesting to see how the different MLB cities grade out in terms of temperature & wind. Hale also offers a cursory look at how FBs & CBs movement is affected by temp. "Not only do hitters have a very hard time in the coldest of weather, there is a steady climb from the worst numbers in the bitter cold up to the low 80's, where results level off. And the swing is significant- batters in weather under 50 degrees Fahrenheit average .249/.318/.410 while in a pleasant 81-85, they hit .297/.356/.468. I'm sure some of you have caught on to the fact that this could be putting the cart before the horse - maybe hitters are just catching up to pitchers as the year goes on and they shake off the rust of a long off-season, and temperatures just happen to be going up at the same time during the hot summer months. While that's possible that has an effect as well, except for a very poor April, last year hitters didn't do any better as the season went on"
  5. I guess I can't explain it any further than I have already. If this were a RS game, I wouldn't care about this at all. It's just a matter of opinion - I don't think ST is the time to be trying to bowl over the C. A hook slide was totally feasible in this situation, and if you don't score the run, big whoop - the games don't count anyway.
  6. "I was one of two non Spanish speaking people at his wedding (my partner and father being the other) and let me tell you Spanish weddings are way more awesome than Jewish weddings (I'm Jewish so I know)." http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/laugh.gif That part gave me a good chuckle. "He has been in the minors for 7 years, been hurt, and experienced every kind of professional struggle you can think of... I work in a cynical business but days like today make it worth it." Really cool - good stuff, agent39. Obviously everyone here wishes Luismar the best - and hope that he can help the Brewers as soon as possible!
  7. What difference does it make by asking a rhetorical question about how many times have other teams done it? My point is about the culture of ST. Guys have a certain amount of respect for each other & their livelihoods, and the Rays are clearly breaking from this in a foolish attempt to show everyone their big... SUVs. And what comes of it? A guy getting knocked out over a play that will have no bearing on anyone's career but the one that got hurt & is now missing time. Honestly, unless I saw a link talking about this before this incident happened, I don't believe it. Fair enough... I follow the Yankees a lot more closely than most here, but I can't remember where I saw it / provide a link. what we're TRYING to say is that the kid's playing the game the right way. And what I'm saying is the total opposite. Regular season I wouldn't even bat an eye, even if the injury to the C were more severe. Tampa Bay is putting careers of other players on the line in ST so they can feel better about their 'We're tuff!' quotient. That's disgusting.
  8. So Weeks was healthy all of sudden just 10 days after he was injured (called up 8/10)? Was he injured all of 2005? I don't ignore his wrist injury, but I will not use it as an excuse for his performance to date. Yes. His wrist healing finished up right on schedule, and *surprise!* he showed everyone why he was drafted so high.
  9. I just usually dim when near other cars in general. I loathe people's high beams shining down on me when I drive.
  10. McNeal was on for sure. James got just hot enough to help keep the game out of reach. MU's defense was fantastic tonight, and Barro is a player for whom the Badgers don't really have a match down low. Nice to see Madison boy Wes Matthews contributing. All in all, I'd say the state of WI basketball is pretty strong. When's the last time both UW & MU went to at least the sweet 16?
  11. Marquette played a fantastic game tonight. Well done Golden Eagles!!!
  12. Marquette's going to hang on to win here. Very well done by Crean & Co.
  13. BARRO IS PWESOME! What a block!!! (~ 4:35 remaining in 2d half)
  14. C'mon now, bc00... deep down, you knew... http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif Hooray fans! EDIT: Marquette's perimiter D has to improve if they want to win. Giving up penetration WAY too much, which is leading to wide-open 3-pt. juimpers. You will not beat ND if you're giving up these kinds of open 3's.
  15. That's 5 (!!) - 5 viewers! Me, J21, Hurr.Cr., Beer, & person on the phone with J21 Beat those ratings, American Idol!
  16. Ok, according to the p-b-p guy, James is a junior. Am I right to roll my eyes on that? Also, Dominic James is feelin' it big-time right now.
  17. I'm watching with beer... does that count as an extra viewer?
  18. This game just keeps getting better... too bad only j21 & I are watching! http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif
  19. Interesting note there, 2brew... but I still can't get excited or upset - it's ST.
  20. but I have never seen two bad pitchers so overvalued in my life. Vargas = bad... ok, probably not, but not a huge stretch Capuano = bad... absolutely not
  21. He is the conf. POTY, though. EDIT: This game looks to be one that's going to be close the whole way. Definitely tune into this one if you haven't already, basketball fans!
  22. Yea, that IF can just plow some catcher to impress his coaches, right? http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif
  23. The dry air in AZ also tends to yield a good # of HRs. That said, you can't be seriously concerned about the ST HR total, can you? Our 'scrubs' are getting as many AB as, if not more AB than, our MLB regulars.
  24. Too lazy to dig for any MU hoops thread. I know some of you others are watching on ESPN. Discuss! (Oh, and GO EAGLES! - from a Badger http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif )
