  1. Obermueller has some crazy voodoo working today. He's now at 86 pitches through four innings and has walked five and struck-out four. Jason Michaels hit a ground-rule double to leadoff the fourth but was stranded at third. Nice work. We don't want to take his bat out of the lineup, but I would imagine that Obermueller is not going to be able to keep this up much longer. One more inning, max, and it would be a good idea to bring in some relief. ~Bill
  2. More fun in the third from everyone's favorite Wes... he's now at 64 pitches, 33 of them strikes. Michaels reached on a bunt single, Abreu grounded to first (with Michaels moving up 90 feet), Thome popped-out in foul territory to Branyan, Utley walked, and Bell grouned to Branyan, who threw to second for the force. At this rate, Obie will have difficulty making it out of the fifth on pitch count alone. Efficiency, Obie Wan, is the key to greatness. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif ~Bill
  3. The fuzziness from my radio is giving me a headache, so I'm just going to give up and rely on MLB.com's Gameday. If anybody is successfully tuning in, either via radio or MLB.tv, please hook us up with any interesting info that wouldn't come across on Gameday. It looked like the second and third strike to Branyan and the third strike to Grieve were all pretty high, but obviously Padilla is dealing. Jason Michaels just led-off the third with a bunt base hit to third. Was Branyan playing back and just didn't have a chance? Was there a bobble? No error recorded, but that doesn't necessarily mean much. Thanks all... this will have to be a real team effort. Packers are on in 13 minutes, but multitasking is what all the cool kids are doing. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif ~Bill
  4. Another interesting inning from Obermueller, who is now at 46 pitches. He is not long for this one, I don't think. ~Bill
  5. I can barely get WMCS to come in, and apparently all of the other affiliates within range are broadcasting the Packers' pre-game. It's like they're trying to make it as difficult as possible to be a fan of the Brewers. I went to the game last night, but I can't afford to go *every* night... sometimes it is nice to watch the game on TV even for us locals, ya' know? Me no likey. ~Bill
  6. I really wish that the Brewers would contract with a television station that would carry all 162 of its team's games. Even if they skimp on the weekday afternoon games, at least broadcast all of the evening/night games. It's a shame, really. Their ratings are through the roof compared to any reasonable expectations, and yet FSN is carrying only the minimum number of games specified in their contract. Boo. Re: the game, Obermueller had quite an adventurous first inning that required 24 pitches to complete. He looked (or rather sounded like!) Victor Zambrano out there... strikeout, walk, strikeout, walk, ground-out. Nice job getting out of it, but Obie's got to have better control. ~Bill
  7. 08/21/2004 - Brewers (Obermueller) vs. Phillies (Padilla) The Larry Bowa termination watch continues. Wes Obermueller pitches. Ben Grieve and Russell Branyan both get the nod. 8. First pitch swinging? How appropriate. So I guess Russell can't beat the Cubs all by himself. ~Bill
  9. Brady bleeping Clark, what's up with that? You have no power, you need to bunt... YOU NEED TO KNOW HOW TO BUNT ARGH BURGLE FLICKLE!!!! ALKJSFDghak;l;aglskhdlkdgha;lagd hpashgdl;q;lksa;lkahgsdl;kahgs;dlha; lsgdhalk;gsdh;alkgsdh;lagdhs;lahsgd lk;alkdgshgas Or something like that. ~Bill

  11. OK that sucked extraordinarily badly. Unhappiness. ~Bill
  12. And by own the Cubs, I meant surrender flyouts to the wall. Whatever works, eh? ~Bill
  13. Darn. Great at-bat by Podzilla, though, and a fantastic game. The way he was old-man-slapping those pitches from the southpaw was beautifully reminiscent of 2003. Now, who pitches the next half inning for the Crew? Kolb again? Adams? Phelps? Hopefully not Jeff Bennett... or Wes Obermueller. That wouldn't be good. EDIT: The Phelpster. He's gonna own the Cubs... they gots no chance. Taking Kinney's number, though? I don't know about that. ~Bill
  14. So you're Wes Helms, and you're sitting on the bench. Your team needs a pinch-hitter, so your best friend and manager turns to... Trent Durrington. How does that feel? Is he now above or below Magruder on the depth chart? How 'bout Bennett? Obermueller? You know that Cracker song, "Low"? That's about where Wes is right now. ~Bill
  15. Nice play by the Muscle, as per usual. The Cubs got Nomah, we got Russell. Who came out better? http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif ~Bill
  16. And by "not a very inspiring bunch," I apparently meant our defense. I think Mr. Adventure would be a better right-fielder than he is a center-fielder... it's a pipe dream, but when Clark and Pods are both in the lineup, it'd be nice to flip 'em around. Oh well. Swing and sway with Sammy K! ~Bill
  17. Extra innings... hopefully Travis Phelps is available to pitch, 'cause he's been a starter and should be able to throw several innings if necessary. That would mean he can't start tomorrow in case Capuano can't go, however, so let's just hope that the Crew can end it shortly. Helms, Durrington, GBennett, and Magruder are the only bats off the bench. Not a very inspiring bunch. ~Bill
  18. Does anyone else get shooting pains in their left arm when Moeller puts that glove up high? I throw up in my mouth. But in some cultures, they *only* eat vomit. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/laugh.gif Ryan Dempster is one of the aces of my MVP baseball franchise. He used to be pretty darned good. ~Bill
  19. I wish Vizzy would pitch like that every time... but then he'd be Gagne. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif NICE! ~Bill
  20. Why is Dave Burba still pitching? And now he takes him out, after he gives up a home-run-but-not-quite double. What exactly were we waiting on to bring Vizcy in? He was up and ready, and it looked like he would come in... but then he didn't. Why? ~Bill
  21. That might have been the highest home run I've ever seen in my life. I've always loved Russell Branyan, and now he's on my team. And mashing the ball. Very hard. I love him like Keith Ginter. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif ~Bill
  22. Here's something to think about... why is Billy Hall batting second when Brady Clark is also in the lineup? It's obvious that Nedley prefers having a right-hander hitter in the second spot, but Brady Clark also happens to hit right-handed. Consider this: Billy Hall's last walk came on July 29th. His last walk before that was on July 19th. In total, he has walked only 11 times this season in 294 plate appearances. His month-by-month totals are terrible: 1 BB in 31 AB in April, 3 in 57 in May, 3 in 56 in June, 4 in 75 in July, and 0 in 62 so far in August. Billy has certainly been hitting the ball well this month... his average coming in was .323 and he was slugging an even .500. But he makes a ginormous number of outs and he strikes-out quite a bit, something that Nedley has publicly said he does not like out of his #2 batter. It just doesn't make any sense at all. Brady Clark has no power but excellent discipline and Billy Hall has no discipline but excellent power. So which one do you choose to bat second and which to bat sixth? Bothered, ~Bill
  23. If Ben Grieve's knee injury is severe enough that it is limiting his ability to play, he should just go on the DL. That was only his sixth plate appearance in the last eight games, all as a pinch-hitter. He struck-out five of those times and walked the other. Infrequent play + injury = ineffectiveness ~Bill
  24. Matt Clement is wicked good. ~Bill
