  1. %%WORD0%0 what about Glendon Rusch diving for that ball on that great effort. He was going full blast for him and he missed the ball by two inches. Are you saying it would have missed his foot by two inches if he didn't dive. Of course not. Dude, he dove because that gave him more time to get the ball, which was falling toward the ground. It didn't get him there any faster, it just got him there in a different position (on the ground), which gave him more time to catch the ball. If his goal was to touch the spot where the ball would land with his foot (or hand), then diving wouldn't have made any sense. Apples and oranges. Grieve sucks. ~Bill
  2. If we could face Kerry Wood and Roger Clemens every night, we'd be fine. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif ~Bill
  3. Check this out... the Cubs' lineup is almost sorted in reverse order by on-base average. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif Macias - .299 Grudzielanek - .327 Sosa - .357 Alou - .341 Lee - .373 Ramirez - .364 Barrett - .346 Gonzalez - .234 The only way they could do better is if they changed it to this. Gonzalez - .234 Macias - .299 Grudzielanek - .327 Alou - .341 Barrett - .346 Sosa - .357 Ramirez - .364 Lee - .373 As much as we complain about Nedley's lineup construction, at least we don't have Dusty's Bizzaro lineup, where high on-base guys get to bat fifth, sixth, and seventh and low on-base guys get to bat first and second. ~Bill
  4. This game was about as much fun as that time I had my wisdom teeth removed. I'm going to go have a cheese sandwich and forget about the Brewers for a while. ~Bill
  5. Wait. How many wins does Greg Maddux have? My head asplode. ~Bill
  6. Jeff Bennett needs to go on the DL for a while and spend some time figuring out what's wrong. I'm no expert, but I think a good diagnosis would be "shoudler discomfort" or perhaps "elbow tenderness." He could also have "forearm soreness" or even "knee tendinitis." Whatever it is, I think spending some time at Indy would do him (and us) some good. ~Bill
  7. Jeff Bennett is starting to make me yearn for the days of Matt Ford. Jeebers. ~Bill
  8. I'm about as optimistic about the team as anyone on brewerfan, bucksbeat, it's the broadcasters that have drawn my ire. You are free to either defend them, agree with me, or ignore me altogether. And if you don't agree with a criticism of the team, you're also free to dispute it. This isn't an issue of taking the moral high ground or what-have-you... people are frustrated, and that's okay. ~Bill
  9. Is he a different man now that he's approaching 300 wins? *** kind of question is that? Why would he be? And why do we have to be subjected once again to the (non-)insights of Paul Bako? This is soooo stupid. They should both be fired on the basis of tonight's broadcast alone. These two put together are more of a Cubs' homer than Stone and Caray or Hughes and Santo. *They'd* be impressed with how much pro-Maddux drooling has been spewed forth tonight by the wonder twins. ~Bill
  10. They're still talking about Greg Maddux. It's almost like they're doing it tongue-in-cheek, but they're not. It's really quite amazing. This broadcast could be sold as a (very poorly done) Greg Maddux tribute tape. I hope Daron and Bill are getting a kickback from Greg, 'cause he's gotten more free publicity than John Kerry on Sunday Night Baseball. How about we talk about something else? Let's talk about our players, like perhaps Doug Davis (who just signed a new contract) or Russell Branyan (who just joined the team) or our minor leaguers (maybe Trent Durrington who is playing in the Olympics, which is an interesting "human interest" story). It doesn't matter... just spend some time talking about our team. Or at least talk about the intersection between Maddux and our players... Helms played with him - why didn't they interview the ole' Caveman about Maddux the Wonderful? I hate this broadcast. I hate all of their broadcasts. But I hate this one more than usual. ~Bill
  11. One pitch, one out. Too bad Wes couldn't have made two outs there, or he would have. ~Bill
  12. So how many career gold gloves does Jon Leicester have? How many career wins? Does he like children and puppies? Does he have a personal catcher who sucks at hitting that could blandly testify to his greatness for us? Does he have a brother that loves him and respects him? I'm dying to know. ~Bill
  13. Did you know that in addition to having three hundred million wins and two hundred and eighty billion gold glove awards, Greg Maddux is a composed professor who loves little children and is a champion of the downtrodden? He's like Ghandi combined with Michael Jordan. Russell the Muscle doesn't care though. That was beautiful. ~Bill
  14. I don't think I could possibly care less about what Paul Bako has to say about how great Greg Maddux is. He's not a compelling speaker, he has nothing interesting to say, and yet an interview with him has been aired about 47 times so far tonight. Bob Brainerd has fauned over how wonderful Maddux is, too, meaning more than 1/3 of the broadcast has consisted of people other than Daron and Bill talking about how great Maddux is. The other 2/3 has consisted of Daron and Bill talking about how great Maddux is. I hate them. I really do. ~Bill
  15. You guys gotta give Russell a break. He's going to strike out half of the time, but he's also going to hit a lot of home runs. We've seen enough groundball outs from Helms and Jenkins to last about 200 years, so at this point who cares if the Muscle strikes out a lot? Just expect him to strikeout, and you won't be disappointed. I'm a sucker for Three True Outcomes players. If you accept the strikeouts, they are a lot of fun to watch. ~Bill
  16. Rasheed hurt his hand sliding into a base earlier this month and left the game. I'm pretty sure he hasn't played since then, but I could be wrong. That's the last Google News result for him, so I would guess that's the most likely reason for his absence. No idea what the extent of his injury is, though. ~Bill
  17. TV, in Wauwatosa (or West Bend). I actually haven't tried tuning in a different radio affiliate than TMJ, though... that's an idea. If anyone else lives in either of the above-mentioned areas and gets TW Cable (in 'Tosa) or Charter Cable (in WB), does the radio sync up with your TV feed? ~Bill
  18. Why do the Yankees even have a Triple-A team. Ninety percent of their prospects get dealt before they get to that level, and Steinbrenner considers every other Major League team a Triple-A affiliate. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif ~Bill
  19. Powell and Ueck work just fine for me. It doesn't sync up for me, or I would be doing the same thing. I even lived through the delay for a few games, but I just can't stand that, either. I think I'll try it with the sound off... I think a little blues music would go good with today's game... maybe I'll turn on some Howlin' Wolf and sulk. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif ~Bill
  20. Hey, we got a run. Isn't that wonderful? How long do you think it will take before Phil Garner realizes what Jimy Williams didn't, namely that Mike Gallo is horrible? ~Bill
  21. If that would have happened, BH would have been pulled in the 1st, or again in the 4th. Is it your opinion that Hendrickson was getting knocked around and on the verge of being touched up for several runs? The score was 1-0 heading into the bottom of the fifth. Jason Lane homered on a good pitch... it was just great hitting. Then Craig Biggio got sawed off and blooped a ball over second for a single, and Adam Everett rolled a ball on a hit and run that came to rest in short right. Neither of those hits represented solid contact, but Yost came running out of the dugout to remove Hendrickson. To me, that represents a complete lack of confidence in the young man's abilities. He pitched out of an enormous, Helms-induced jam the inning previous, which would hopefully mean something in the "is this dude a battler?" category. Hendrickson was not getting bombed. Not at all. Doug Davis was getting bombed today, but he got to stay in. And the same has been true of Obermueller much of the season. Little Ben deserves a chance to pitch. He deserves a longer leash. If he fails, so be it. He did not have a high pitch count, and he had been throwing very well. ~Bill
  22. Jose Vizcaino threw batting practice yesterday. As a result, "he's a guy who does everything for his team," to quote Bill Schroeder. I know Vizcaino is a great guy and is known as a great clubhouse leader, but *** does throwing batting practice have to do with how good of a teammate a player is? That's a ridiculous statement in a long line of ridiculous statements he and Darron have made today. I know this is like the 250th time I've done this on today's game thread, but Milkman Schroeder is really getting on my nerves today, even more than usual. ~Bill
  23. "Matt Kinney is a guy who they haven't been able to find a lot of innings for lately. The starting pitching has been so good." -- Bill Schroeder True? Not really. Brewers' relievers in July, sorted by appearances: G IP --------------------------- Luis Vizcaino 11 10.1 Matt Kinney 9 9.0 Jeff Bennett 9 10.0 Mike Adams 8 7.1 Dan Kolb 7 6.1 Dave Burba 6 8.2 Matt Wise 5 8.2 Brooks Kieschnick 2 3.0 Kinney was worked the second most times and has worked the third most innings. He's now worked once in each of the last three series, including a two inning appearance in each of the last two series. He hasn't exactly been over-used, but I don't think he's someone to isolate as "not getting enough innings" unless you say the same thing is true of everyone but Vizco. And on an unrelated note, Jeff Kent is a mental gidget. ~Bill
  24. Um, Batman, is BHs ERA under 4 likes DDs? Nope, its over 9. Thats why BH gets the early hook. And that's stupid, because Hendrickson had two starts before yesterday. Doug has been getting hammered in July, too. How is Hendrickson supposed to develop as an MLB pitcher if he is yanked at the first sign of danger? Wes Obermueller had a longer leash than Hendrickson, and that doesn't make any sense to me. If you don't allow Hendrickson to work later into games, he never will. It's self-fulfilling... "he can't work late into ballgames, so you have to take him out early" and therefore "he hasn't worked late into ballgames, so you have to take him out early". Unless you give him a chance to prove whether he can or can't go deeper into games, he never will. ~Bill
  25. Doug Davis has been getting rocked pretty well today, but he gets to stay in the game indefinitely. Ben Hendrickson wasn't getting rocked yesterday, but he got removed at the first sign of trouble. And it wasn't even really a sign of trouble. That's the inconsistency I pointed out yesterday. I'm very glad Podsednik didn't just blow out a knee running up that hill right there. Nice play... I bet Eric Milton would have loved a play like that, huh? http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif ~Bill
