    If that was directed at me, Patrick, I wasn't really defending him. You had just asked if he was taking heat in Toronto, and I responded in the affirmative but that the ownership is getting most of the blame. And like I said, I'm not so sure the "win in 2005" plan that JP got the job based upon is going to work out. In fact, I'd definitely wager that it wouldn't at this point in time, especially since they weren't able to cash in Delgado this year.     Speaking of team leaders, has anyone else noticed how Russell Branyan has gotten everyone wearing those red/yellow glasses? I hadn't seen anyone wear those all year until Branyan sported them in his debut, and now Jenkins and Hall (and maybe others) are wearing them.     Argh. That was a really good AB by Mackowiak, though... fought off a lot of tough pitches and then elevated a ball down by his ankles to get home the run. Heck, he almost hit that one out. I guess Trent Durrington hasn't had enough time to teach the Brewers how to get the job done, go for the jugular, not let 'em off the ropes, finish 'em off, and that kind of thing. Just give him time. ~Bill

    Good stuff, Patrick... team records are easily available, but it's somehow different when they are presented like this... it adds some perspective, I think. Anyway, the Blue Jays have been absolutely terrible. Delgado's slide has been a big part of that, but they've also gotten some unexpectedly bad performances out of other players. JP Ricciardi is taking some heat from the Toronto press, but more is being directed at ownership than at the GM. JP still thinks they'll have a good team next year and has said he's still sticking with his "win in 2005" plan. At this point, I don't think that's going to happen, but you never know I guess. ~Bill

    BTW, that was a great bunt by Counsell. He's a really good bunter... I wish he could use his veteran leadership to teach Podsednik a little something. Why can't Trent just be our bullpen catcher or assistant bench coach? As long as he doesn't actually play, he's a great asset... except that he takes up a roster spot. Just pull a Luis Sojo with him and let him be a coach. ~Bill

    Russell the Muscle has been very impressive today. Two walks and a double, and he's seen like 300 pitches in three plate appearances.     Great job, Patrick. When I read what X wrote, I too thought "is that really true?" and was hoping that someone (you! http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif ) would do the research. Couple things: - I think the comment about our lower minors being "stacked" is very true. I'm not sure if that's a "problem" for other organizations as well, but I'm sure that our discontinuation of the summer league teams has added to the logjam a bit. - I wonder if we could form a "Canadian Summer League" team that basically just plays intrasquad games and perhaps other Canadian amateur teams. If nothing else, it would allow us to sign some of the Canadian players early, keep them in Canada, and give them access to our coaching and training personnel on at least a part-time basis while they also play with their own summer league teams. I like the idea of waiting until next year's draft to determine who to sign, as some guys will get injured or be less effective than we thought they'd be, but that decision-making process would be aided quite a bit if we could get them together and have more of a hands-on relationship with them. I don't think you can really do that unless you sign them, though, so maybe it's an impossibility. Regardless, I think developing our own program/facility in Canada would be a good idea going forward, especially if visa problems are going to be a perennial problem.
