  1. I'm sure most of you know this, but Joe Roa used to be a Brewer (for a few months at the beginning of last season). His MLB career is quite a story. After being drafted in the 18th round of the 1989 draft, he's played for the following organizations: - Atlanta - New York Mets - Cleveland - San Francisco - Cleveland (again) - Florida - Philadelphia - Milwaukee - Philadelphia (again) - San Diego - Colorado - Minnesota In all, he's played for 24 different Major or Minor League teams. The best part? He's only 32. Here's an AP story: sports.espn.go.com/espn/w...id=1818796 ~Bill
  2. Matt Ginter is a pitcher for the Mets, so at least he exists. Keith's middle name isn't even Matt, though, it's Michael... that's an entirely inexcusable error by the TV folks. And Bennett looks like he's 12 without the chin strap. Wow. ~Bill
  3. Ben is probably done... 102 pitches, 66 strikes, 4 hits, 2 walks, 6 Ks. He's due up third, so I can't really see him hitting for himself and going back out for the seventh. Good outing - he did what he needed to do with regard to the small zone and really heated up the last few innings. Nice work, Big Ben! EDIT: Yep. This is one of the things that Nedley does really well. If Dusty Baker was our manager, he'd have sent Ben back out to "finish what he started" and "learn how to be tough." It would have been easy for Nedley to say "Ben's pitching good, why don't we try one more inning?" But he didn't. And that's cool. Nice job, Ned. And Ben Grieve with a nice base hit as a pinch-hitter. Jeff Bennett time, folks, and sans goatee (or so I hear). Hide the children. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif ~Bill
  4. Ben isn't Ben tonight. I'm sure the miniscule strike zone has something to do with it, but the Twins are doing a good job of laying off the curveballs. Hopefully Big Ben can figure out what's up and make the adjustments. ~Bill
  5. Hi Carlos Silva. We're the Brewers, and we own you. ~Bill
  6. It looks like Miller Park is overrun with Twins fans again. Hopefully the quiet game thread means lots of brewerfan faithful are on hand and trying to offset the 'sotans. ~Bill
  7. Podsednik still in there. Ginter and Clark are tonight's 3B/RF duo. 8. Daily Brew series preview will probably be a little late.... I'll post when it's up. Silva was part of the Eric Milton trade and has been uber-solid. Let's hope that Sheets is royally irked about his last start and he takes it out on the Twinkies. Go team. EDIT: Daily Brew Series Preview is up at... www.brewerfan.net/ViewDai...portId=253 I'll add more on the pitching matchups if I have time, but the rest of the "usual stuff" is there, including the NL Central matchups care of SBS. Be sure to check out the game recaps from the Mariners series, too... ~Bill
  9. The quotes from Gallardo right after the draft indicated that he had a tough decision on his hands. He has a commitment to TCU and is apparently going to seriously consider fulfilling it, but like "hscoach" said, it would be hard for him to turn down the kind of money he'll be offered as a second round (and early second round at that) selection. There hasn't been anything written since then, AFAIK, at least in any publications that are indexed on google or lexis. If you take into account the above with what Patrick said about previous prep second rounders taking more time to ink, it might be awhile for Yo. And Patrick, thanks for the "there's no D in Rogers" post. That was starting to bug me a bit, but I didn't want people to think I was a grammar dork. Rest assured that I share your sentiment! http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif ~Bill
  10. Are you using IE on Windows? It's probably something like MS Smart Tags... likely some sort of adware/spyware. If you're on Windows, run Ad Aware (google search for the free download) and see what it comes up with. Otherwise, not sure. Good luck. ~Bill
  11. Here's an interesting tidbit from CBS Sportsline about the Brewers' selection of a high school pitcher. It's good to hear that the Brewers actually read the book and have at least given it some thought. It would also appear that Melvin has undertaken research projects to help figure out an optimal draft strategy. Right or wrong, that's a good thing. www.sportsline.com/mlb/te...IL/7427585 ~Bill
  12. The store has been down for a while. I think what happened is that a spammer thought of a creative way of drawing traffic... they found old cafe press stores that had been discontinued, grabbed them up, and posted just a link to the their site. Pretty pathetic, but it is kind of ingenius. I'm sure Brian will take care of it. Thanks for pointing that out, SBS! ~bill
  13. Clark has broken out of his own slump so this would be a perfect time to give him several days in center. Will it happen? I'm going to go with no. Should it? Yep. With Liefer on the club, having Clark play isn't as bad as it would have been... we still have an outfielder on the bench, plus Podzilla, and Clark can play center just fine. When I see Scotty take that softball swing at pitches up near his eyes, I'm tempted to throw my bobblehead. It hasn't happened yet, but I think a few days off would be good for both the real Scotty Po and his miniature likeness. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif ~Bill
  14. Disappointing, but still good. At that half-way point of the homestand, we're 4-2. If we can duplicate that the rest of the way, we'd finish 8-4. Would anyone really be upset about that? Burglflickle. ~Bill
  15. This game blows. It's why we don't use the s***p word. Brewcrewkid is to blame. You edited his blasphemous post, but apparently it was too late. I need a nap. ~Bill
  16. Poor decision by Nedley... Kinney has been pitching well lately, though, so it's not a "oh my god what is he thinking?!?" sort of bad decision. This has been a frustrating game. Hopefully they've saved up some magic for the ninth. ~Bill
  17. From Adam McCalvy's latest notes column: Right-handed reliever Ben Ford was scheduled to begin a 30-day rehabilitation program on Thursday for Triple-A Indianapolis at Durham, N.C. Ford (right shoulder tendonitis) is expected to throw one inning or 25 pitches. LOL. I think that "30-day rehabilitation program" is code for "stay away until we figure out what to do with the roster". ~Bill
  18. Yep, he said yesterday that we have the lowest team ERA in the last 32 games. I assume that still holds true, so make it 33. ~Bill
  19. I'm making an executive decision on behalf of Brian... if anyone mentions the five letter word that starts with s, ends with p, and rhymes with weap before tomorrow's game, you will be permanently banned from brewerfan.net. Thank you for your cooperation.... and like Toby said, shhh! http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif ~Bill
  20. .500 + http://www.eslkidstuff.com/images/four.gif Feels good, don't it? ~Bill
  21. Now I've told you this once before You can't control me If you try to take me down you're gonna pay Now I feel your every nothing that you're doing for me I'm picking you outa me you run away I stand alone Inside I stand alone You're always hiding behind your so called goddess So what you don't think that we can see your face Resurrected back before the final fallen I'll never rest until I can make my own way I'm not afraid of fading I stand alone Feeling your sting down inside of me I'm not dying for it I stand alone Everything that I believe is fading I stand alone Inside I stand alone And now its my time (now its my time) It's my time to dream (my time to dream) Dream of the sky (dream of the sky) Make me believe that this place isn't plagued By the poison in me Help me decide if my fire will burn out Before you can breathe Breathe into me I stand alone Inside I stand alone Feeling your sting down inside of me I'm not dying for it I stand alone Everything that I believe is fading I stand alone Inside I stand alone Inside I stand alone Inside I stand alone Inside -- Godsmack, "I Stand Alone" I hate that song, but what ya' gonna do? C'mon, Danny! ~Bill
  22. How much do you think that Luis Vizcaino is worth to a contender with bullpen problems? Wow. ~Bill
  23. Julio Mateo is an interesting story. He signed with the Mariners way back in 1996 out of the Dominican Republic. He was only 17 and so this is his ninth professional season despite being only 26 years old. He spent two full years with the Timber Rattlers so I'm sure a lot of folks reading this saw him pitch (even if they didn't care at the time). He's sort of the Mariners' version of Mike Adams, I think. Anyway, I was just doing some reading about him when he came into the game and figured others might be interested, too. ~Bill
  24. I said it last night and it worked, so I'll say it again... Vizcaino + Kolb and everybody goes home happy. ~Bill
