1. Wow. That ball was walloped. Nice to see Mr. Underproducing doing something... well... productive. If he gets on a roll, this team will be even more fun to watch. ~Bill
2. Wow, I just got a flashback of Eddie Perez digging around third and trying to score. Nicely done, Benny... and nice hit, Spivey. Nice to have an early lead. And Bill Schroeder is right... Garret Anderson did not look good on that "throw". I'm going to go with "he's not ready yet, skip" for 500, please. ~Bill
3. "He needs it. He's been scuffling a little bit." - Daron Sutton, commenting on Gary Bennett's double Right, Daron. ~Bill
4. So it turns out we did pursue Jose Guillen in the off-season, and he was flattered and interested in playing for Nedley. At least, that's what Daron Sutton says. Oh, what could have been. ~Bill
5. I agree RyDogg. What's interesting is how much umps call people out when the tag actually gets people near the knee or higher. True dat. The other thing that bothers me is the "neighborhood" call on double-plays. If a guy's foot isn't on the bag, it's not an out... and no "it's close enough" explanation will ever cut it for me. ~Bill
6. Not a lot of experience on either side tonight. Angels vs. Obermueller: Raul Mondesi - 1-for-3, 2 BB, .933 OPS Oh, too bad... Raul can't play anymore. I'm crushed http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/laugh.gif . Brewers vs. Sele: Ben Grieve - 12-for-29, 2 2B, 6 BB, .997 OPS Jeff Liefer - 1-for-6, HR, 3 K, .833 OPS Scott Podsednik - 0-for-1, BB, .500 OPS Craig Counsell - 0-for-4, K, .000 OPS EDIT: And yes, Chone Figgins was safe. No opinion needed... that was pretty clear. We'll take it, I guess. ~Bill
7. Grieve didn't play last night, either, despite a career 8-for-31, 2 2B, 2 HR, 4 BB, .895 OPS line against Washburn. ~Bill
8. Toby, you are amazing. Want to go ahead and make a similar prediction for Mister Rogers? ~Bill
9. now that Kade is off the 40 man, Im assuming that he is elgible to be taken in the Rule 5 draft next year? correct? Yep. It's hard to say that "since no one picked him up now, no one will then," but he'll have to start hitting better to be a reasonable backup catcher for somebody. I really don't think anyone would want to take that gamble in the forseeable future. ~Bill
10. I must say I'm pleased that Kade cleared waivers, if only because it would have been another harsh blow to the Huntsville faithful had he been claimed. Speaking of Huntsville faithful, what did y'all think of Nestor Corredor? You guys were the first ones to see him play in the US... want to share your "scouting report"? He was obviously playing way over his head, probably three levels above where he belongs, but it would still be interesting to get an idea of what he looks like, how he plays, etc. Thanks, ~Bill
11. Thanks guys, I appreciate it. ~Bill
12. I should be sleeping, but... Team W L PCT GB ST L10 ------------------------------------------------------------- St. Louis 34 25 .576 -- W1 7-3 Cincinnati 34 25 .576 -- L3 6-4 Houston 32 26 .552 1.5 W2 5-5 Milwaukee 29 27 .518 3.5 W2 4-6 Chicago 30 28 .517 3.5 L1 5-5 Pittsburgh 24 30 .444 7.5 L3 2-8 That's right, kids... we're ahead of the Cubs on June 10, 2004. Sweet dreams, ~Bill
13. Ballgame. We own the Angels. G'night, ~Bill
14. I've committed myself to stop analyzing this team thru the Astro series and just sit back an enjoy. Go get some sleep, Chris... you'll feel better in the morning http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif . You're right, though, this has been a lot of fun. The beginning of the 2001 season was sort of like this, but not really. I don't think we've had a team this exciting to follow since 1992. ~Bill
15. This is the kind of thing you only get on West Coast Brewerfan In-Game Threads. June 21, 2002 - Angels 11, Brewers 4 Milwaukee Brewers IP H HR R ER BB K Quevedo L(3-6) 4 9 1 7 7 2 1 Durocher 3 2 0 3 1 1 1 King 1 0 0 0 0 0 1 DeJean 1 1 1 1 1 0 3 Totals 9 12 2 11 9 3 6 retrosheet.org/boxesetc/B...IL2002.htm June 22, 2002 - Angels 8, Brewers 2 Milwaukee Brewers IP H HR R ER BB K Cabrera L(3-5) 4 9 1 5 5 2 2 De Los Santos 2 3 0 1 1 2 1 Vizcaino 1 3 0 2 2 2 1 King 1 0 0 0 0 0 0 DeJean 1 1 0 0 0 0 0 Totals 9 16 1 8 8 6 4 retrosheet.org/boxesetc/B...IL2002.htm June 23, 2002 - Angels 5, Brewers 2 Milwaukee Brewers IP H HR R ER BB K Sheets L(4-8) 6 8 0 5 5 3 4 Durocher 1 0 0 0 0 0 0 Figueroa 1 0 0 0 0 0 1 King 1 1 0 0 0 0 1 Totals 9 9 0 5 5 3 6 retrosheet.org/boxesetc/B...IL2002.htm Yeah, we pretty much sucked. How 'bout that line from Q, huh? EDIT: This post isn't formatted so nice, but it's late and I'm too tired to fix it. Follow the links to get the complete box scores and revisit a bit of un-good Brewers' history. Revenge is sweet, ~Bill
16. That poor kid got shelled in his MLB debut. I love my Brewers, but I do feel bad for that kid. Yeah, me too. He'll get over it, and we can just blame Mondesi. Wait, did the Angels just pinch run with Jose Molina? If you're Tim Salmon, that must be pretty embarrasing. That's like getting pinch-hit for by Neifi Perez. ~Bill
17. We are beating the (*insert expletive of your choice here*) out of the Angels. This is wonderfully fulfilling. Stoked, I am. ~Bill
18. I assume they mean NL only league with 40+ owners. Well, I guess I am just happy that this lineup tonight is getting the job done. LOL. Speaking of fantasy stupidity, rotoworld just pointed out that Kieschnick will likely be back tomorrow and might DH this weekend. Um, we play the Astros. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/laugh.gif Brady Clark is the man, tonight. Woohoo. ~Bill
19. Keith Ginter taking away a basehit from Jose Guillen with a beautiful diving play? This is like my own personal video game, kids. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif ~Bill
20. I wonder if someone in the Angels clubhouse broke a mirror or something yesterday, because their mojo is just not working. It's the Karma Police. They signed Mondesi, thwarting all notions of good and common decency in favor of the dark side of the dollar sign, and now they're getting punished. Mondesi got hurt, and the Angels can't score any runs. Beware the Nazi hair-do, ~Bill
21. With a 5-run lead, why not? He had only thrown like 75 pitches so why not keep him out there until he forces Nedley to remove him? That's what I'd do, anyway. ~Bill
22. Well, he just got doubled off second, BUT... ... how 'bout some props for Brady Clark tonight? ~Bill
23. OK, I can accept any offensive argument you want to give me for your man-crush on Ginter, but this is ridiculous. He goes in AS hard as anyone but not harder. Don't let your love for him cloud your objectivity. That's what I meant. Sometimes my love for Ginter clouds my grammatical judgment http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif . Sorry, homer. ~Bill
24. Santos has less than dominating stuff and a checkered career, hard for me to think struggles wont be a part of the equation with him. Agreed. He's been a really nice surprise, though, and the starts he's given us in the absence of Capuano and Kinney have been critical to the team's continued .500 record. I'd advocate continuing to ride him until he forces our hand or a better option surfaces. For now, though, he's a-okay with me. EDIT: Two questions: 1> Where did those last two pitches to Salmon miss? 2> Why doesn't Santos seem to care that DaVanon is running all over him? ~Bill
