  1. Could it be that Hayes and Koenig both found out recently their stock isn't very high for the upcoming NBA draft? These guys were a big part of a very successful program the past 4 years, and may have had inflated opinions of themselves. Also, they are both very politically active. I think it's at least possible they are distracted by a whole lot of things, and then you realize..."What am I going to do with my life in a couple more months?" Just really guessing here, but if you add it all up, it is possible.
  2. DeJesus strikes me as a textbook AAA IF. Provides CS a legit player that can help them, and can come up to Milw in an emergency. AAA is always a mix of prospects and filler vets. Final roster spot could be almost anyone at this point. Another BP arm, Rivera, Aguilar, Reed, Wren, or someone who would be somewhat of a surprise.
  3. Add Monroe, that was a huge mistake and I said it at the time. Everyone said, oh he can be easily traded if necessary. No, we're stuck with him this year and again next year tying up $18MM a year. He is Suppan. Bucks new Owners wanted to make a splash with a big name, and Monroe was the only guy they could get. Very similar to how Mark A courted Suppan shortly after buying the Brewers.
  4. Great point. But even at 50-40 I would not trust the rotation to be anywhere near good enough to finish the year strong and make a splash in the playoffs. I would much rather trade a starter if a team comes calling with a great offer for a Guerra or Peralta for example. You know, we talk about trading a CF, Cordell, etc. due to depth. I get that. But I rather give all these guys more time so the cream rises to the top. If there's a 5% chance they go 50-40, there's also a chance Cordell develops into one of the best OFs they have. I don't want to trade him for a BP arm in some sort of fantasy of being a true contender this year. This is all about creating a window of 4-6 years where they can be a legit contender. And to do that they need to retain all the top young talent they have, because you simply don't know who will shine at the MLB level. We all have fun reading and creating prospect lists, but that's all educated guessing. I'm very optimistic the position players may be ahead of schedule in the rebuild. But 50-40 or not, I can't see this rotation competing for anything- not even a 5% chance. Until you can show me a really solid 1-3 at the top of the rotation, I'm continuing to sell at the trade deadline.
  5. I'm not sure there's a single person who says "Jason Kidd is the coach, let's go to a Bucks game." Yea, I think his name had some cache' when he was first announced as coach, but that excitement has died off long ago. I mentioned this a while back, but starting to believe it even more- he is Scott Skiles. Skiles first year they played great defense, shared the ball on offense and made the playoffs. Then it all went downhill. Exactly the same thing with Kidd. Will they make a change, or the right change? No idea, I have no confidence in the Owners. Hope I'm proven wrong, believe me, I just don't like anything that has been done in the organization the last couple years.
  6. It is the dream if you're talking about Villar, Broxton, Santana, Arcia, Davies, Hader, etc. But if they're 50-40, it means they've had big seasons from more than one of Guerra, Garza, Peralta, and Nelson. And I would definitely try to trade any/all of them if the opportunity is there. I would even be open to dealing Broxton or Santana if someone offered a deal similar to what we got for Gomez/Fiers or Lucroy/Jeffress. I'm not saying you actively try trading the younger guys, but they do have OF depth and if you can bring back some top flight pitching in return, I would listen to those offers.
  7. Which proves ST has little correlation with a player's regular season results. So does it matter if ST was two months or two weeks? Probably not much. I don't think ST is too long, mainly to get starting pitchers stretched out. It's just that I don't think it makes players (especially position players) more prepared to have success in the regular season.
  8. Option #2. If they are 50-40 somehow, it's not sustainable. Not sure who they even have left to sell off, but if someone wants a bullpen arm, or Guerra, Nelson, Peralta sure I would be dealing. I get that's not easy to do when you're winning, but when your plan can be swayed by fan reaction it's time to step down as GM.
  9. Stuck with $61MM of bad contracts next season, still $32 MM in 2018 and $20MM in 2019. Not too bad after next season, but that's still a lot. Very important in the NBA to have 3 or so big contracts to great players, then round out the roster with very cheap contributors. Brogdon, Beasley, Snell filled that role perfectly this season. But now if you turn around and offer big money to someone like Snell you're just continuing the problem. They basically need to rebuild from the bottom with Giannis and Brogdon. We don't even know if Middleton and/or Jabari can make it back. Jury is out on how much Maker can give you. Monroe contact hurts, and it would be great if they could shed one of Dely/Teletovic. Point being, I don't expect things to be much better next season and I really fear they keep signing mediocre players to 3-4 deals in the $10-$15MM range just to try to be competitive.
  10. Mike Beasley is shooting just shy of 55%, I really dont think he's the problem. Oh, and add Telatovic to the list of guys to move on from.
  11. It's pathetic, and it's on CC now. He knows what Sedar is, and is apparently in favor of how he coaches 3B.
  12. Couldn't disagree more. Baseball never has been and never will be a non-stop action sport. Yes, NBA is rising in popularity. MMA. MLB can't compete for those looking for that type of action. Shorten the game 15 minutes won't make a bit of difference for action junkies. Baseball is about strategy, numbers, moments. Either people appreciate and love that or they don't.
  13. Yea, may as well play Maker and Vaughn a ton. See what you got, plus lose some more games and earn more pin pong balls. Just really a bummer it has come to this. Two years ago they were in the playoffs and gave the Bulls all they wanted- and that was without Jabari. Really looked like they were on the rise, and ever since then nothing but bad decisions and injuries.
  14. Yes it's too long, much like NFL doesn't need 4 or 5 preseason games. It's not likely to change though, and if teams really believed SP only need two outings nothings stopping them from doing that now. Plenty of other arms in camp, and the can shuttle as many through as they want. Ditto for position players. And I wouldn't worry about Braun's family time, my guess is they're down in AZ as well.
  15. How many PGs do you want? If they add anyone they need a couple forwards. Especially if Beasely is out for a while.
  16. Yea, they actually do that already. They have a separate Oscars for most of the technical categories. Other than the "Big 6" people don't really care. Sure, you can add in a few more and still easily keep it within 2 hours.
  17. Only one game, and cactus league game at that, but he was picked off 1B again and couldn't field a bad throw by Lopez. (Bad throw, but a play that a MLB 2B should make.) So as Briggs said, jury is still out. If he continues the performance of 2016, even with the bone-headed plays, you can live wit it. But much like Gomez, that stuff gets more irritating when you're not hitting. Also, keep in mind some players rely exclusively on their agent to make these decisions. Sure, his agent gave him both sides and explained everything but Villar may have easily said "That's what I have you for Mr. agent, tell me what to do." Would be curious to see what Josh thinks about this.
  18. Yea, it's not that "true" Centers are out of style, it's just that Monroe is maybe a slightly above avg overall player. There's still guys like Boogie, Anthony Davis, Karl Anthony Towns, Embiid, Jokic, Whiteside, Gobert. Now some of those guys can stretch the floor more than others but they can all play in the post. And they can all play defense better than Monroe.
  19. It is quite amazing they haven't figured that out. I imagine advertisers pay big money at the very beginning and very end during the biggest awards 99% of people care about. But they must lose a ton of audience by then, heck it's Midnight on the East Coast by the time they're done. No reason they can't condense the show to a tidy two hours.
  20. Problem is, now that Bease is starting, Monroe and Brogdon need to come off the bench. OR else you would have literally no scoring from the 2nd unit of Dely, Middleton (not close to being himself yet), Maker, Jet, Henson?? Yikes.
  21. Even if Brinson really rakes, no issue having him stay in CS for the first half of the season. Then, injuries happen and poor performance happens so it could be resolved rather naturally. Worst case, you have have 4 really good OF for half a season. Enough ABS to go around for 3 months. All RH which isn't ideal, but fine for 2017. 2018 will be tougher if Braun is not traded and Phillips is ready. Now you have 5 with Ray on the way. I still think Santana or Braun need to buy a 1B glove, otherwise it's time to trade someone.
  22. Eh I don't know, he wasn't trying that hard on either end. I think the guys sensed he was entertaining and kept feeding him. Not like Westbrook who was clearly trying too hard.
  23. County Stadium scoreboard had BA, but depending on how many lights were burned out, you may have thought Billy Bates was hitting .880
  24. Giannis really took his name to another level. Yea, all star game was a joke, but he put up 30 and showed Giannis things to a broader audience.
  25. TWIB and Pepsi Fan Club, didn't get better than that as a kid.
